ROUTE DESCRIPTION
MARATHON: Start 05:30 at Silverstroomstrand and head out on the R27 towards Melkbosstrand on
the West Coast Road. The first 12 km is flat, turn left onto R307 Dassenberg drive and the start of a 5km
hill. This climb continues just past the 20km mark. After reaching the top of the hill, continue on
Dassenberg drive for another 10km flat and turn left towards Mamre for 1.5km and turn left into Silver
Stream Road. Thereafter it is a downhill for 8km. From about the 40 km mark the route levels out just
before the finish.
HALF MARATHON (Start:06h00) and 10KM (Start:06h15): at Silverstroomstrand and cross the
West Coast Road into Silver Stream Road towards Mamre. Athletes will make a U-turn after the half
way mark (up and down hill run)
Medals will be given to all runners who finish within the cut off times of all the events
VELOCITY EVENTS RAFFLE
All runners/walkers will stand a chance to win a cash shopping voucher to the value of R10 000 on the
day of the event. All you need to do is put R20 on the raffle that will be available at the remaining WP
road running events for 2014 as well as on the day of the event. You can increase your chances of
winning the R10 000 shopping voucher by putting your name on the raffle as many times as you want
but, at the same time, if you enter for any of the 3 events of your choice you increase your chances of
winning. If you enter your name the first time on the list and enter the 10km you will get 2extra raffle
tickets for free to increase your chance. If you enter for the half marathon you will get 3 extra raffle
tickets, and if you enter for the marathon you will get 4 extra raffle tickets. The draw will take place on
the day of the event .Temporary runners, International runners and runners from other provinces will
also be eligible for the prize draw. Only runners/walkers for 42km, 21km, and 10km are eligible for the
draw.
RACE RULES
 Entrants for the marathon must be 20 years or older; for the half marathon 16 years or older and for the
10km 15 years or older on race day, Saturday 20 December 2014.
 No changing from the marathon to the half marathon or10 km or vice versa will be allowed.
 No swopping of race numbers will be permitted.
 Licensed athletes should run in official club colours.
 All competitors must display their 2014 provincial/ASA license number on the back of the vest and the
official race number on the front.
 Race run in accordance with the rules of WPA and ASA.
 No personal seconding will be permitted except at official refreshment station.
 The time limit will be 5½ hours for the marathon and 3½ hours for the half marathon. The time limit
for the 10 km will be 120 minutes.
 Walkers are welcome to enter the half marathon and 10 km race
 In addition to Overall (Open) prizes, participants will only be eligible for an age category prize in the
age category they enter.
 Corresponding numerical age category tags must be worn on the front and back of their vests.
 Participants may enter the age category corresponding to their chronological age or any younger
category down to senior.
 Temporary licensed participants are eligible for age category prizes provided they enter the relevant age
group, wear the appropriate age tags and provide proof of age.
 Juniors (born in 1995 or later) wearing a junior or senior license, must display the red J age tags to
qualify for age group prizes.
 Official club colours must be worn to qualify for team prizes.
 For safety reasons the use of personal music players during road races is strongly discouraged. Any
person using such a device in contravention of IAAF Rule 144,3b, who fails to obey a reasonable
instruction from a race official, may be disqualified and shall not be eligible for individual or team
prizes.
