Thank you to all who sponsored and attended our annual golf get together. Some of you may
have noticed the name change of the event to the “Annual Frank Kurisu Golf ‘Get Together’”, which was done to honor the founder of the event who passed away in February of
this year after a courageous battle against cancer. Frank would have been pleased with the
event this year. It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed the play, dinner and raffle prizes.
Dick we missed your band this year. All net proceeds are being donated in honor of Frank
Kurisu to Charles Hutchins (The Charles Hutchins Educational Grant, co-sponsored by the
SMTA and Circuits Assembly magazine), Totally Kids® Rehabilitation Hospital (in Loma Linda)
and Rising Tides Church (a church located in Long beach which provides care and recreation
for elementary school aged children).

September presentation on Ultra-Thin (UT) Conformal Coatings. See page 11 for a meeting
review. It was our first remote session over the internet. Pretty cool.
October 30-31st is our annual CTP. Lean/Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification, presented by
Albert Clary and The Six Sigma Way. Somehow we managed to successfully obtain enough
attendees to hold this event. This event will also be a remote course. If you are interested,

December 5th, our Annual Christmas Party (Page 12) – We are still finalizing our entrainment

LA/OC SMTA September Meeting Review
On Thursday September 18th, 2014 Debora Obitz with Microtek Laboratories presented on the upcoming
changes to the IPC Conformal Coating standard IPC-CC-830. The document is going through some major
revisions and Debora did an outstanding job in reviewing these new requirements for Ultra Thin (UT) Coatings. These new coatings will be even thinner then any of the previous conformal coating materials. One
of the major advantages to these new coatings will be the ability to perform rework without having to strip
the coating.
The Task group is still ironing out testing requirements for these new coatings, but we can expect to see
these updates in the very near future. For those who missed out on this presentation Microtek Laboratories
has graciously supplied a copy of the presentation and you can view it now on our archive page of our
chapter website at http://www.laocsmta.org/archive/index.html.

Scott Penin is the Co-Founder and Managing Member of Paradigm Contract Manufacturing LLC, an EMS company. The company was initially started in January 2003 in Santa Ana. It has changed names a couple of time but has
always maintained the “Paradigm” portion of the name. It has been located in Garden Grove since November 2004. It
recently added another manufacturing line and the company prides itself on its Lean Manufacturing and 5s approach.
Scott has been a member of the SMTA since 1996. He has been on the Board of Directors for the LA/OC Chapter for 15 years. He has held positions of President (6 years) and Vice President (9 years). He is running for chapter
vice president for 2015 and is also on the National Technical Committee, Leadership Committee and has recently volunteered for the Certification Committee.
Scott and Kim have been married and live in Cypress for 23 years. They have 2 daughters, Lorena & Stacie.
Lorena is all grown and has 3 boys of her own. Stacie graduated from High School and in 2011 and has hit the job market. They have a “rat” dog (Chihuahua) named Brownie.
Scott was born and raised in Southern California, graduating high school from New Mexico Military Institute.
He has attended various colleges, but never obtained the “piece of paper”.
The family enjoys playing darts and pool and good food.
