Explorations II

Japanese Art & Language (Grades K–1)
Instructors: Margie Obendorf
Meets: Thursdays, 2:15–3:15 p.m., November 6, 13, and 20
Location: Room 8
Tuition: $24 + materials $8 = $32
In this class students will explore a different Japanese art form each week. These will include
origami (paper folding), kirigami (paper cutting), and ikebana (flower arranging). They’ll also
explore some Japanese writing. They’ll learn how to write their own names in Japanese and also
paint some Japanese characters (kanji). These make beautiful paintings when we illustrate the
meaning with pictures.
Sewing (Grade 1)
Instructor: Kim Polasek
Meets: November 7, 14, and 21
Class A: Fridays, 2:15–3:15 p.m.
Class B (for students regularly enrolled in aftercare): Fridays 3:15–4:15 p.m.
Location: Room 9
Tuition: $24 + materials $8 = $32
Students will sew all projects by hand. They’ll learn to thread needles and properly tie off their
work. Projects will be festive for the fall season.
Sewing (Grades 2–3)

Meets: Thursdays, 2:45–3:45 p.m., November 6, 13, 20
Location: Room 9
Tuition: $24 + materials $8 = $32
This class is for students with some prior sewing experience. They’ll sew all projects by hand.
They’ll learn to thread needles and properly tie off their work. Projects will be festive for the fall
season.
Explorations II

Touch-Typing (Grades 3–5)
Instructor: Christie Vinson
Meets: Mondays and Fridays 2:45–3:30 p.m., November 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21
Location: Room 17
Tuition: $48 + materials $8 = $56
Students will learn and practice keyboard fundamentals using techniques from “Type to Learn
3.” They’ll become comfortable with typing and word-processing as well as general instructions
for turning on the computer and opening and saving files. Returning students can improve in
both speed and accuracy. Being accurate and quick at word processing is very helpful for class
work as students move on to upper grades.
Important: Signing Out of Explorations
All students, even those not usually enrolled in aftercare, must be signed out when
picked up from Explorations classes.
Below is an example of proper sign-out procedure for Explorations students.
Write and circle EXP in the class time and write your initials next to it:

Please attach payment (checks should be made payable to Explorations) and return it with this
form to the Meher Schools office by Wednesday, October 29.
Late registrations may not be eligible for enrollment.



Payment must accompany the registration form.
If your child is not enrolled, you will be notified.
Refunds are not available unless a child is not enrolled due to limited space or class
cancellation caused by under-enrollment.
