Whether you want a direct replacement for your original seat belt(s) or
wish to fit full harnesses, we can help. All our seat belts/harnesses are
manufactured in the U.K. to exacting standards.
The adjustable reel belts attach to the original 3 mounting points but
feature angle-adjustable reel, eliminating pivot/guide on top of wheel arch.
Offers a solution to problems encountered where mounting points may be
unsuitable because of non-standard seats or a rollover bar.

Transform the interior of your Sprite
III & Midget II with our hand crafted
burr walnut veneer kits. All our real
wood veneer kits are individually
made by skilled craftsmen, using
traditional coach building methods,
alongside modern laser technology
to ensure a perfect fit. Not only is
the burr walnut veneer selected for
both colour and grain, each piece
is hand sprayed with restoration
lacquer (as used by leading luxury
car manufacturers), then sanded and
polished - by hand, to a high gloss
sheen. Note: Veneer kits can be
produced in burr elm to special order.

neatly over the existing dash board
without the removal of the gauges
and, because the veneer kits are
only 1.5mm thick, they still allow
the bezels to protrude, giving a
factory fit look.

Our SmartScreen wiper kit allows you to have an intermittent wiper delay
of between three and thirty seconds. The system is programmed by using
your existing wiper switch, so, no extra switches or visible change to the
interior. The SmartScreen wash/wiper kit, for all negative earth vehicles
from 1967, allows you to have automatic wiper system when using your
electric screenwash. All kits are easy to fit and come with full instructions.

An essential part of British classic sports car’s styling was the fitment of
wire wheels. Whether they were fitted as standard or not, a set of chrome
wire wheels will not only enhance the appearance of your car, but also
the value.
Centre lock spinners are made from the highest quality materials and are
precision engineered to ensure an accurate fit. We have three styles of
spinner to choose from - octagonal, two or, three eared. Eared spinners
should be fitted with either a hammer, or one of our special long handled
spanners.

Please Note:
A few Sprite I models were converted to wire wheels and disc brakes by the Donald
Healey Motor Co. They used special brake discs and Dunlop/Girling calipers at the
front. We are unable to supply any of the components for these vehicles, the later
Lockheed discs and calipers are not directly interchangeable either.
Wire wheels for Sprites & Midgets were only offered by the factory as an optional
extra from 1963 after the introduction of disc brakes and, the 1098cc engine.
Centre Lock (Splined) Hub Conversion Kit
For Wire Wheels & Centre Lock Alloys.
Conversion kits do not contain road wheels.
Convert your conventional steel wheel rear and front hubs to accept
splined hubs, enabling the fitting of either chrome wire wheels or centre
lock alloy wheels. Our kits contain everything you need to convert to centre
lock wheels, including full instructions, splined hubs and all the necessary
hardware, chrome spinners and a copper hide mallet. Check local regulations
for eared spinners.
Important: Tyre clearance must be checked and the wheel studs require
shortening. Wire wheel conversions on Sprite I models require wheel spacer
kit GAC7017S, two kits will be required per car.

Locking Wheel Nuts.
At the time of going to press, we supply 2 types of locking wheel nuts
for Sprites & Midgets. Not suitable for original steel wheels, use only with
replacement alloy wheels. The TriLock system uses a socket with 3 pins that are
uniquely matched to the TriLock locking nuts. The SupaLock system uses 8
offset grooves cut into the nut head that uniquely match the SupaLock socket.

Headlamp Relay Kits
Early electrical systems did not include relays in the headlamp dip or main
beam circuits. The omission of relays from these circuits means that the
high electrical currents required to power the lamps runs through the
switchgear when the lamps are used. This is contributory to the burning
and subsequent failure of light and dip switch contact points. This situation
is aggravated if the original equipment headlamps are uprated to a higher
wattage or supplemented with additional lights, as this increases the current
load on the existing circuit. Another benefit to the installation of operating
relays is that of brighter headlamps without uprating their wattage.
All models easily lend themselves to the installation of relays to control
headlamp operating power without having to do any butchery to the wiring
loom that is non reversible. It also pays back by not involuntarily melting the
dip, flash or main lighting switch. The additional wiring and relays can be
easily tucked out of sight so as not to inflame the wrath of the purists.

What can I do to make my Sprite/Midget go faster?
There really isn’t a simple answer to this question.
For instance: 1. Do you want higher speeds on the
motorway or do you want more mid-range torque?
2. Do you drive your car fairly hard on a daily basis,
or just use it on weekends? 3. Would you like that
little bit more power, or do you want maximum
BHP? 4. Do you just want the car to be quicker
through bends? 5. Then we could ask, have you, or
are you going to, upgrade the brakes? 6. Are your
suspension and steering bushes/components OK?
7. Will your transmission and drive train handle
more power/speed? 8. Is your car standard, or has
it been previously overhauled/ uprated?

Roll Bar/Cage Competition
These high quality bars are jig built in 1.5” CDS (Cold Drawn Seamless)
tubular steel, they are made to MSA/FIA specification. Finished in black,
they are supplied with the necessary fittings.
The 2-point fixing front cages are provided with clamps that enable it to be
clamped to the top of the rear bar. The 4-point fixing rear bars utilise the
strongest mounting positions, with the diagonal to the upper RH side for
maximum protection. Bars for LHD vehicles may be available to Special
Order. We also supply door bars for extra protection. The rear cage for the
Sprite I (only) also has a horizontal full harness bar that fits above the shroud.
The back stays are located by a 3 bolt fixing system that links the braces to
the chassis. Note: Sprite I roll cages are quite complex, you may need the
help of a specialist to fit the unit because they pierce the rear shroud.

Lightened Body Panels
1098cc Engines.
The 1098cc engine uses a larger bore manifold with similar 948cc fitting
notes for the chassis. This engine responds well to a large bore exhaust
system improving both power and torque. We supply a stainless steel
performance system with a large capacity rear silencer that helps to
reduce the exhaust note. Note: Fitting Manifolds. When fitting tubular
manifolds, check that the flange thickness is the same as the inlet manifold
before fitting and adjust as required.
Jim Clark was probably the quickest Grand Prix driver of the early
1960s. Allegedly a shy person, on the rare occasions he was
interviewed, everyone listened. When asked how he drove so
quickly, one word was adequate... concentration. His boss, Colin
Chapman might have hoped it was something to do with his
Lotus F1 cars. He is one of several people credited with saying
a variation on the add lightness theme. He certainly did that.
The harder any vehicle is driven, the faster parts wear out. A
reduction in all-up weight will slow this process. Let’s start the
lightening though, where it doesn’t cost anything, by emptying
the car of all unnecessary bric-a-brac, back onto the garage
shelves. Lightweight outer body panels will give you an
appreciable saving in weight, and they don’t have to be fitted
in pairs or sets, merely as required. By the time the panel(s)
are fitted and painted the material cost is not significant.
A fabricated high performance exhaust manifold, this has primary pipe
dimensions of 1 3/8” outer pipes and 1 1/2” inner pipe. The tailpipe is of
1 5/8” diameter. When fitting to a standard exhaust system it is necessary for
the down pipe of the system to be cut to suit the new joint position.
Designed specifically for Sprites & Midgets, this one piece manifold is the

A Series Engines And Exhausts
The performance system made for these models, in 304 stainless steel, will
fit directly onto the extractor manifold. The single silencer is of a larger
capacity than standard, with a pipe of 1 5/8” outside diameter and a sleeve
for the GAC7018/S manifold. Includes fittings.

BMC’s A series engines, which have a five port cylinder head, three of the
ports being exhausts. The two middle cylinders of the engine share the
centre port, so the manifold pipe from the centre port is made with a larger
internal diameter than the other two as compensation.

Lumenition electronic ignition kits are well known as

Road Use SmoothCut Rev Limiter
Performance Distributors And Fittings
This rev. limiter is designed for road use and comes preset for four cylinder
cars to 6000rpm. It allows use of full throttle up to the limit, at which point
power is gradually reduced. It is suitable for 4,6 or 8 cylinder engines, the
unit can be preset to the customer’s specification; please ask for details. A
very useful investment, especially if you use your car on track days.
New competition distributors now come in the 45D format with push-in leads
to a side entry cap. We can supply modern ignition leads for side entry caps
or, we can supply a low profile side entry cap to take the early type screw in
lead, but, this must be fitted with matching rotor arm. Low profile caps are
particularly suitable for Sprite I. We can supply a distributor for fast road use
with a vacuum unit or, for competition use without a vacuum unit; these both
have a modified advance curve to suit either a fast road or competition
camshaft, note the vacuum unit is a push-on connection. The cap has been
specially modified to fit by removing the screws and filing grooves for the
clips to sit in, the points are of the high performance self cleaning type.

There are three problems associated with dynamos, firstly they barely
charge unless run at 2000+rpm. Secondly if you try to run them any faster,
they tend to disintegrate. Thirdly even if you get them running at a
significant speed, they do not produce many amps. For most road cars the
answer is to fit an alternator conversion, which will supply sufficient amps
for headlights, spotlights, heater, wipers and any other accessories added
over the years. However, your car will not appear as original for aesthetic
reasons, competition scrutineering rules or simply from preference,

It is wise when modifying engines to allow for extra cooling, the oil should
not be allowed to run too cool or too hot as this can lead to rapid engine
wear. We suggest using a 10 row radiator for normal road use, a 13 row for
fast road, 16 row for competition and a 19 row for full race use.
Because this thermostatic installation/conversion kit prevents cold start oil
from going through the cooler, the engine has a quicker warm-up period.
This installation kit comes with braided stainless steel hoses.

The Sprite I radiator can easily be replaced with the later type which has a
shroud on the engine side, this helps with airflow and cooling. If your car
only has the two blade fan fitted, extra cooling can be gained by fitting a
second blade at 900 to the first. It is possible to fit the later uprated water
pump that gives a greater flow rate and higher pressure, but you will need
to ensure that the vanes clear the cylinder block when fitted. The bottom
hose bore must be larger for this pump; one may already be fitted if your
car has an iron bodied pump.

Blanking Kits For Thermostat & By-pass Hose
The A series engine produces its maximum power at around 700C so, for
competition use you need to keep it cool by using either a blanking sleeve
and masking the radiator or maybe, a 740C thermostat. The thermostat can
be removed to aid cooling but it is essential that a blanking sleeve is fitted
in its place or the change in water flow may cause local overheating in the
cylinder block, and incur great expense! At the same time, better water
flow control can be achieved by fitting the by-pass hose blanking kit, this
will help to keep your head cool.

The Frogeye Sprite I, Sprite II and the Midget I were originally fitted with
drum brakes all round as standard equipment and, for the period that the
cars were in production they proved to be (just) adequate.
Uprating the braking system must be the single most important
improvement on any classic car, especially if you have, or are going to,
increase the engine power/speed. Heavy use can tax even disc brakes
and, if they are proving inadequate, we supply cross-drilled discs that run
considerably cooler than standard, ideal for really hard or competition use.
When the models were improved and uprated to 1098cc they were fitted
with disc brakes to cope with the extra performance. Early models can be
modified with later components - many have already benefited from this,
however, on this page we will concentrate on modifications to the later
type standard setup.
The braking system is vital on any car, more so on your classic as driving
conditions and speeds make it more difficult on modern roads, so please,
ensure that your brakes are always in tip top condition.

For those of us who find the pedal rather hard after driving modern vehicles,
we offer a servo conversion, which will greatly reduce the pedal effort. Some
specialist knowledge is required to install this servo kit.

Competition cars quite often need to finely adjust - from inside the car, the
braking bias between front and rear brakes.
Here we offer an adjustable brake pressure valve which reduces the supply
to the rear brakes after attaining a preset pressure, this may prove necessary
when uprated rear shoes are fitted to avoid premature locking of the rear
wheels but, will depend upon the choice of front pads and the wheel/tyre

The standard mechanical fuel pump on the 948cc
models may not be able to maintain adequate fuel
pressure at higher engine speeds or indeed, the electric pump fitted to the
1098cc models. The range of Facet high pressure electric fuel pumps
however, suit all modified applications, the position in the car where the
pump is mounted will determine which model is used. The cylindrical
interrupter pumps can be fitted to the front or rear of the car and can pull
fuel up to 18 inches from the bottom of the fuel tank. The cuboid solid state
pumps must be mounted close to the tank and below the fuel level the
installation instructions must be adhered to. They can pull fuel up to 12”
from the bottom of the fuel tank and the filter union must be fitted to the
suction side of the pump.
Both types of pump are supplied in negative earth only, they come complete
with mounting bobbins and unions, you will have to re-plumb the fuel system
around the new pump using a combination of standard pipes and hoses. Finetuning of the fuel pressure can be easily achieved by installing a pressure
regulator, we can supply either a simple regulator or a filter regulator with a
replaceable filter. We have the road competition version with 1/4” and 5/16”
connections and the larger competition version with all 5/16” connections.

Not only do these Ram pipes improve air flow into the carburettor by
reducing turbulence - thanks to their full radiused mouths, they also look
good. Our ram pipes for single choke carburettors are 50mm deep, they can
be used on their own, with the Piper air socks, or with suitable sports air
filters, depending on installation, providing there is sufficient clearance
from the end of the ram pipe to the sports filter case. Twin choke application

These are the only air socks that are designed to fit with our Piper ram
pipes. The socks, which are supplied in pairs, are 100mm deep and may be
cut-to-length to suit your application. We do not recommend that you have
less than 30mm between the ram pipe mouth and the inner face of the sock.

Increasing the size of carburettors on your engine can give a lot more
power if the right combination is chosen. The Frogeye Sprite I was originally
fitted with twin H1 SU 11/8” carburettors, which were often replaced with HS2
SU 1 1/4” carburettors from the later cars. This relatively simple conversion
provides the 948cc engine with a useful power boost, use a complete
installation including manifold and linkages.
For those wishing to experiment with the 948cc or 1098cc engine we supply
an inlet manifold to suit a single HS4 SU 1 1/2”, a single HS6 1 3/4” and one to
suit Twin HS2 or HS4 carbs. Many enthusiasts prefer to use the Weber DCOE
for competition applications. We offer a range of manifolds and carburettors
including one to suit 2 split twin choke carbs - for the serious racer. All our
manifolds include gaskets, studs and nuts; the TWM manifold also includes
a neat linkage. Weber carbs come with 35mm long ram pipes as standard.
With some SU installations and, when using a Weber carburettor, the inlet
manifold no longer supports the closed circuit engine breather system,
we supply an alloy catch tank to divert the breathers to, this is essential
for all competition cars. Carburettors need to be matched to your engine
specification - please contact us for further details.

For HS2 carbs you have a choice of combined units with deep filters and cast
covers bearing the legend Sprite or Midget, or separate polished stainless
steel cased filters. The deeper filters tend to be less noisy and offer better
airflow. The combined units have a ram pipe cast into the base. K&N filters
for the DCOE carburettors are also in polished stainless steel and rely on the
retention of the carburettor’s original ram pipe for smooth airflow. The
combined units are supplied with bolts, the individual filters will require bolts
and nuts, most fix directly onto the flange, some through the whole case.

K&N Filter Ram Pipes For Twin Choke Carbs
Ram pipes, sometimes known as stub stacks are essential to improve air flow
into the carburettor. They feature full radiused mouths that help reduce
turbulence at the mouth of the carburettor, allowing a much smoother air flow.
Ram pipes produce a measurable improvement in performance. The length of
the ram pipe slightly changes the engine speed at which power is developed
- the shorter the pipe, the higher the speed. These ram pipes can be used
on their own, or with a K&N sports air filter, providing there is sufficient
clearance from the end of the ram pipe to the case. All ram pipes are sold
individually. If unsure as to fitment please contact your local Moss branch.

For competition use we can supply a universal alloy slab tank in 6 or 8 gallon
capacity. They are foam filled and have a screw on cap, drip funnel, breather
connection and fuel pick up. Careful fitting is required as its soft aluminum
construction can be very easily fretted through by contact with steel.
We strongly suggest that the tank is mounted on rubber strips and that you
make some aluminium straps backed with rubber, either in the boot space
or under the boot floor.

Carburettor Needles
The range of needles used on Sprite & Midget models through the
years is quite extensive. Choice of metering needle will depend on
engine condition/modifications, type of manifold/exhaust system and
choice of air filters.
For the best results it is essential for the car to be set up on a
rolling road with a gas analyser. If you require any further help

Front Anti-Roll Bar Handling Kits
The simplest - and most cost effective way to improve your vehicles
handling is to fit one of our front anti-roll bar handling kits. All Sprites &
Midgets suffer from an inherent handling problem, the standard front
suspension design allows body roll which induces understeer. This is the
tendency of the car to go straight on when steered into a corner because
the slip angle of the front tyres is less than that of the rear tyres. With its
rear wheel drive design, the Spridget is more comfortable and stable when
this understeer has been reduced towards what is known as Oversteer.
This is the tendency of the car to turn into the corner because the slip angle
of the front tyres has become greater than the rears.
Moss Special Tuning anti-roll bar handling kits have been very carefully
produced as complete packages to suit each model - research has shown
that the requirements for each model are different. Because the anti-roll
bar provides the key to improved handling, we focused our research and
testing on all the production anti-roll bars, as well as testing many
experimental units. From this work, the correct components were selected
to provide excellent roadholding while preserving the ride quality - without
the need for other modifications. Please Note: When carrying out any
suspension modifications, it is vital to ensure that all other components are
in good working order to handle the increased cornering speeds and, to
maximise the benefit of any modification.
Moss Front Anti-Roll Bar Handling Kits
For semi-elliptic rear springs. The standard front suspension design allows
body roll that induces instability. Fortunately this situation can be easily
rectified by fitting one of our well proven handling kits. The inherent
problem with the handling of these models is roll-induced understeer
making high speed driving somewhat difficult. Our handling kits are
designed to reduce body roll, whilst retaining good ride quality. Each kit
includes a stronger front anti-roll bar with uprated centre mountings, plus,
uprated rear shackle bushes to reduce rear end steering caused by lateral
spring movement.

The natural understeer on these models can be easily reduced by fitting
the anti roll bar from the later disc braked models, however, this will
require - if not already fitted, that you replace the wishbones (as listed
here) for the later reinforced ones along with the connecting links. The
connection to the chassis leg is a little difficult, but can be overcome with
a little ingenuity.

Front Anti-Roll Bar
It is important not to fit too stiff a bar, as this will ruin the ride comfort,
transmitting road shocks through to the driver and passenger. The later
cars were fitted with a 9/16” diameter bar as standard, we have found the
ideal anti roll bar for a standard road car is 5/8” diameter, a modified car will
handle better with the 11/16” diameter bar.
Competition cars benefit most from the 3/4” or 7/8” bars depending upon their
specification, but, these bars can prove to be too stiff for road use and will
push the handling towards understeer again. Our experience has shown
that the original bar end stops are not required for the competition bars,
though they should be used on road bars.

An Introduction To The Front Anti-Roll Bar
As mentioned earlier, the handling is mainly controlled by the front anti-roll
bar. For those owners who wish greater control of their vehicles, here we
list the full range of bars together with the basic recommendations.
Increasing the diameter of the bar will progressively reduce body roll and
understeer tendencies. Too strong a bar will allow understeer to develop
and will increase the harshness experienced on bumpy roads -making the
car twitchy. Larger wheels and tyres may allow a stronger bar to be used
due to the increase in unsprung weight.
The amount of load transferred by the bar is proportional to the square of
the bars diameter. Competition cars will usually benefit from the fast road
bar when using Slick or Competition tyres, they are usually much lighter
than standard, so may benefit from a smaller bar which can be selected
from the table.

Front Suspension Conversions
An uprated front anti-roll bar will help you get the full cornering benefit from your
classic, even if you haven’t modified the suspension, but, if you are considering
increasing the engine power and performance, it is a very wise investment.
Front Anti-Roll Bar Centre Mountings
The degree of control that the bar has over the vehicle can be adjusted by
the use of different types of mounting for connecting the bar to the chassis
legs. We offer hard rubber, polyurethane, neoprene or solid bushes, depending
upon the bar diameter and the use for which the vehicle is intended.
As the mounting gets stiffer there will be a small increase in the amount
of noise transmitted through the chassis and steering. The solid type are
very noisy and suitable for competition only. Hard rubber and polyurethane
bushes fit with the original mounting straps, BHH2000 x 2, available if required.
Neoprene is a hard material and has a wider fitment area, these come with
mounting straps and need some small modifications to fit.

As well as fitting a anti-roll bar handling kit, many owners want to further
modify their car for fast road or even competition use. On Sprite & Midget
sports cars the front suspension should be stiff and the rear pliable; this
reduces body roll at the front, lessening the chance of ‘lifting’ the rear inner
wheel when cornering hard. Please Note: When carrying out any
suspension modifications, it is vital to ensure that all other components are
in good working order to handle the increased cornering speeds and, to
maximise the benefit of any modification.
As we have no control over installations/modifications (whether previous or
current), it is the sole responsibility of the user to ensure safe and correct fitment,
tolerances and clearances. Manufacturers/suppliers descriptions and dimensions
are given in good faith at the time of publication. Errors and Omissions Excepted.
Front Suspension Bushes
Handling improvements can be obtained from the better location of the
wishbone arms, and other areas of the suspension that are fitted with
standard (soft type) bushes as originally fitted. These can be replaced by
using a harder grade of rubber, polyurethane, or for competition, nylatron.
Nylatron bushes are not recommended for road use unless you are willing
to accept an increase road noise and a harsher ride, they must also be
fitted carefully to ensure the correct working clearance is obtained - and
they must be inspected on a regular basis. Please contact your local Moss
branch for fitting details.
Nylatron has been used on competition cars for many years, it is hard and
unforgiving, whereas the modern polyurethane bush has a softer edge and is
more easily installed. Road cars can benefit greatly from polyurethane bushes
without the harsh ride associated with nylatron. Nylatron’s strength does
mean that we are able to offer the top trunnion bush with an offset drilled
centre hole, this allows the suspension camber to be adjusted. The fitting of
nylatron bushes is best left to someone with engineering experience.
