Ariel Shamai began his violin studies in Israel at the age of 6 under the tutelage of Mrs. Valerie Blotner and the acclaimed
Israeli violinist Mr. Chaim Taub. With scholarships to both the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music, he came
to New York at the age of 18 to continue his studies with maestro Pinchas Zukerman and Ms. Patinka Kopec.
Ariel has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras around the world including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra,
Boston Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra,
National Arts Center Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He has collaborated with renowned musicians such as
Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Leon Fleisher, Gary Hoffman, Bernard Greenhouse, Michael Tree, Maxim Vengerov, Cho-Liang
Lyn, Zubin Mehta, Jeffrey Tate, Mariss Jansons, and Pinchas Zukerman.
Ariel has appeared on some of the most prestigious stages, among them Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, the
Ravinia Festival, and the Tanglewood Festival. He has toured throughout the United States, Canada, Russia, Germany, Austria,
Finland, France, Spain, Switzerland, South Africa, Israel and more. He has also been featured in various TV and radio
broadcasts on PBS and NPR and recorded for BMG Classics and Koch International.
Ariel currently serves as Vice President, Chief Technology Officer at Edison Properties, where he is responsible for digital
technology solutions, software development, systems infrastructure, and technical operations.
Ariel resides in Warren, NJ, with his wife Susan and his two sons Jeremy and Jordan.
Alejandro Bacelar did undergraduate work at the Peabody Conservatory and at Mannes College of Music. He did his graduate
studies at University of Massachusetts and the University of Iowa. He studied cello with Lawrence Lesser, Claus Adam,
Leopold Teraspulsky, and Charles Wendt.
After college, Alejandro joined the Quinteto de Xalapa (string quartet and piano, in residence at University of Veracruz,
Mexico). The group toured the country and performed for radio and television. They also performed at the Aspen Festival in
Colorado in 1980. Alex joined the Savannah Symphony (GA) as principal cellist in 1981. In 1985 he joined the New York
City-based piano trio, Música Hispana. The group received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts. For seven
years, they toured the U.S. and performed at universities and in major halls including Weill Hall at Carnegie, Merkin Hall,
Lincoln Center, United Nations, Americas Society, Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and Miami International Music
Festival. During this time Alex was invited to perform as a guest with many chamber groups and also performed solo recitals.
Since the early 1990s Alex has devoted most of his time to violin and bow making and the restoration of rare instruments.
American pianist Sondra Tammam has received enthusiastic acclaim for her performances in North America, Europe, Asia,
and the Middle East. Ms. Tammam’s concerts have taken her to diverse venues including Carnegie Weill and Merkin Hall in
New York, the Harvard Musical Association in Boston, Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the
Goethe Institute in Casablanca.
She was the first prize winner of the Frinna Awerbuch International Competition of the New York Congress of Piano
Teachers, the John Meyers Foundation Grant, and the Paderewski Foundation Competition. Other awards include the Juilliard
Concerto Competition, the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition, and the Gold Medal of the National Guild.
Ms. Tammam is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School, where she received Bachelor and
Master of Music degrees respectively. Her teachers have included the late Edwin Hughes, Jeannette Haien, Dora Zaslavsky, and
Rosina Lhevinne. She coached with Dorothy Taubman starting in 1980. Ms. Tammam has served as Associate Professor at the
Manhattan School of Music and as Classical Music Coordinator of the Summer Arts Institute at Rutgers University.
As an active chamber musician, she has appeared in performances with members of the New York Philharmonic and the
Audubon Quartet. She has been featured as soloist with orchestras in the United States and in Italy led by conductors
including Sixten Ehrling and Nicholas Flagello. Her performances have been broadcast live on WQXR and WNYC in New
York and AFN Radio in Germany, and she has appeared on WCBS, WOR, and PBS television.
Ms. Tammam is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Dorothy Taubman Seminars which since 2003 have been held in
New York City at Lincoln Center and also at Temple University; since 2012 Taubman Festivals are held annually at Montclair
State University in New Jersey. She conducts master classes and lectures in the U.S. and abroad at venues such as Dartmouth
University, Taichung University in Taiwan, and, in 2010, at Tel Aviv University in Israel. Recent topics for her lectures/demonstrations have included Memory - Decoding the Black and White, Developing Strategies for Unraveling Complexities in Passage Work
and Selected Sonatas of Beethoven - The Pre-College Student’s Repertoire Choice.
A native of New Jersey, she has presented lectures to the Music Educators Association of New Jersey (MEANJ), the NJMTNA, and the Piano Teachers Congress of N.Y. at Steinway Hall. Ms. Tammam was awarded two HEART grants from the State
of New Jersey for ensemble performances. She has appeared at numerous conventions of the MTNA and adjudicated for New
York debut competitions of the Leschetitzky Association and Piano Teachers Congress, among others. Ms. Tammam was
selected to be listed in Who’s Who of American Women and is represented by Primo Artists, Ltd. Her first compact disc included
selections of Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt, and her most recent disc, by Palexa, includes works by Mussorgsky, Schumann, and
Ben-Haim. Clavier Magazine (Dec, 2005) featured an article she co-authored titled The Wisdom of Dorothy Taubman.
