Did You Know?: LC currently has 820 students taking over 1688 AP classes (in 20 different content areas). Due to our
high enrollment and success in AP, LC has been invited again this year to apply as one of the top US high schools in
the Washington Post's annual listing competition. We'll know our ranking early next year. Way to go Tigers!
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations: Congratulations to our 4 LC CyberPatriot teams who competed last weekend in an international
cyber-defense competition with over 600 teams.
Our Cyber Tigers took 1st place (and blew away the competition by finishing in record time). Team members: Hnia
Xiong, Richard Phillips, Lars Benedetto, George Polyak, Ethan Brandt
Fire Wire Tigers took 5th place. Team members: Sebastion Greer, Holland Heyenrath, Zack Braun, Jacob Severson,
Spencer Tabino, David Kusel

Our Freshman team, Tiger Defense, did not place, but did exceptionally well for their first ever competition. Team
members: Alec Erb, Jasper Corcoran, Keegan Reed, Devlin Mee, James Hill
CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program. The competition puts teams of high school and middle
school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company.
In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are

tasked with finding cyber-security vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining
critical services in a six hour period. Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region, and the top
teams in the nation earn all-expenses paid trips to Washington, DC for the National Finals Competition where they

INFORMATION
Halloween Costumes: Spokane Public Schools and LC have moved away from the wearing of Halloween costumes
at school. To honor all students and cultures here at LC, this is a reminder that all costumes, disguises, face paint, etc.,
will not be allowed at school during Halloween week. Students who disregard this expectation will be sent home to
change.
Picture Retakes: If you had picture retakes done, the new pictures are available for pick up in the Business Office.
Campus Security: Beginning at 8:00am, all of our external doors with exception of the main entry are locked. All
visitors must enter through the main entry and check in at the office. The main entry door is locked at 4:00pm unless
we have an afternoon or evening event planned.
GEAR UP: Our next GEAR UP family event is right around the corner! TONIGHT, October 30
GEAR UP families (students and families of current 10th grade students) are invited to join us
for a free dinner at LC (catered by Tomato Street) and listen to three guest speakers who will
share information about financial literacy. Dinner starts at 5:45 outside Room 133/135 and we
will begin with our speakers by 6:00pm. The event will wrap up before 7:00pm on the LC
campus so you can enjoy a free choir concert in the Auditorium!
Senior Pictures & Senior Baby Ads for the Yearbook: The deadline to have Senior Pictures and
Baby Ads in the 2014-2015 yearbook is Friday, October 31 - with NO exceptions. For information

No Booster Club Meeting in November: The Booster Club will not meet in November due to the Booster Bash.
Booster Bash: Everyone is invited to LC's biggest party on November 8 at Manito
Country Club. This is the Booster Club*s biggest fundraiser of the year. Tickets are
$40 each. Come enjoy a live and silent auction, live band, good food, a night out
with friends, all to benefit our children*s activities at LC. We are a non-profit
organization that supports all co-curricular activities at LC. Tickets can be

Ti-Girls Dance Camp: The LC Drill Team is putting on their annual Ti-Girls Dance Camp for all girls grades 1-8. The
camp is on Saturday, November 1 from 10:00am-1:00pm in the LC Field House. The participants will learn moves,
dances, and cheers from the LC Drill Team members with a performance for their parents at the end of camp. The
camp costs $25 by October 30 which includes a t-shirt, snack, and the 3 hour camp experience. More information

West Point Military Academy: West Point Academy will be holding an admissions meeting on Sunday, November 2

Delta Gems: The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority are inviting all young ladies of AfricanAmerican heritage (ages 14-18) to join them for the annual Delta Gems event to engage in
cultural activities, education, and skill building for 21st century leaders. The Gems will meet
throughout the school year from November-June on the second Saturday of the month from
10:00am-1:00pm. There is no cost to join and breakfast and lunch will be provided. There will
be a parent meeting on Saturday, November 8 at 10:00am at Libby Center (E 2900 1st Ave).

Travel to Europe in the Summer of 2015: Have you ever wanted to scale the Eiffel
Tower, look the Mona Lisa in the eye, eat decadent chocolate in Switzerland, tour the
caste the inspired Disney's Sleep Beauty's castle, experience history at the hallowed
ground of Dachau, and peek behind the former Soviet Iron Curtain into Prague?
Mr. Greg Pschirrer, Ms. Emily Haxton, and Mrs. Theresa Meyer are organizing a
European Adventure for Summer 2015. This will be the 5th European trip for us and we
are excited to take your student on the adventure of a lifetime! The two week trip
organized by WorldStrides will include: Paris, France - Lucerne, Switzerland - Munich,
Germany - and - Prague, Czech Republic and many points in between!
Students/parents who register before November 15 will receive a $150 discount (November 15 is also the last day to
apply for a need-based scholarship).
We currently have 14 students ranging from 9th-12th grade, 4 parents, and 3 LC leaders registered for the trip. Any

COLLEGE & CAREER INFORMATION
SAT Saturday Testing Information: The SAT will be offered on Saturdays at LC this year:
- November 8, 2014 (late registration deadline 10/28*)
- December 6, 2014 (registration deadline 11/6, late registration deadline 11/24*)
- March 14, 2015 (registration deadline 2/13, late registration deadline 3/3*)
- May 2, 2015 (registration deadline 4/6, late registration deadline 4/21*)
- June 6, 2015 (registration deadline 5/8, late registration deadline 5/27*)
Late registration incurs an additional $28 fee.
Students register for exams directly on the SAT website, www.sat.collegeboard.org. Please be aware that registration
deadlines for the exams close approximately one month prior to the exam date; late registration deadlines for the
exams close approximately ten days prior to the exam date and incur an additional fee. Additional information
regarding the SAT can be found online at our website under the "Info" tab (SAT testing @ LC), or on the College
Board website (www.sat.collegeboard.org).
Most students take the SAT during their junior or senior year in high school. At least half of all students take the SAT
twice - in the spring of their junior year and in the fall of their senior year. Most students also improve their score the
second time around.
The SAT test costs $52.50 per test. If you cannot afford to pay the fee, you can see your counselor to apply for a fee
waiver before you register online (click here for fee waiver information: http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-feewaivers).
Note: All LC Juniors will take the SAT test during the school day on April 15 for free. More details coming closer to the
test date.

Changes are coming to the SAT in 2016: When students open their SAT test books in spring 2016, they*ll encounter an
SAT that is more focused and useful than ever before. The full specifications of the exam along with extensive sample
items for each section will be available on April 16, 2014. Major changes are:
There will be three sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, Math, and the Essay.
The length of the SAT will be about three hours, with an added 50 minutes for the essay.
The exam will once again be scored on a 400 to 1600-point scale. The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
section and the Math section will each be scored on a 200- to 800-point scale. Scores for the Essay will be
reported separately.
The Khan Academy (http://www.khanacademy.org/sat) is partnering with SAT to help students prepare for these
changes with FREE test prep!

PowerSchool & Grades: Do you want to know how your student is doing before
report cards come out? Do you want real time progress reports and attendance
data online for your student? Visit www.lctigers.com and click on the PowerSchool
icon at the top. Your PowerSchool login and password were mailed home with the
Welcome Back letter.
In PowerSchool, you can choose to have progress reports emailed to you as often as you want. Last year, we have
76% of our parents and students accessing their information and 32% getting email reports - we would love to see
everyone utilizing this great tool!
If you have questions about your student's grade, please contact the teacher directly as your first step as soon as
you have a concern so they can partner with you to help your student be successful.

GEAR UP for Academic Success: Our new GEAR UP Academic Success Center (ASC) is open

and ready to start helping students! The ASC is open to 9 and 10 grade students.
- Where: Southwest corner of the library.
- When: Monday-Friday at lunch, and Monday-Thursday after school (2:30-3:30pm)
- What: Helping students with whatever they need to succeed academically.
School Sponsor: We are excited to announce our continuing partnership with Target stores. Families
who shop at Target and use the Target REDcard can designate LC to receive a donation of 1% of
the purchase total. So far, we have 20 families donating to LC just by shopping at Target! If you don't

Free Microsoft Software for Students: In an effort to help prepare students for the technology skills required in the
workforce, Microsoft announced Student Advantage. Students can now use Office every day for school work and
activities that are most important to them. Office not only helps students stay organized and get their work done
today but at the same time develops skills that will be required when they enter the work force. There is no cost to
download and run the full versions of Office provided in the Student Advantage program. You can also access the
Microsoft Mobile apps on smart phones or tablets.
Enrolled students at LC are eligible to install the full version of Office Pro Plus as part of our Office 365 Student email
subscription. Below are instructions on how to install Office Pro Plus on a Windows 7 machine. The installation process
is similar for Windows 8 and the Mac OS.
Procedure
Using the computer you want to install Office on do the following: Login to your Office 365 email account at:
https://login.microsoftonline.com (If you do not remember how to log in to your Office 365 email account, go to:
http://www.spokaneschools.org/Page/23164).
Once logged in, click on the setting*s gear in the upper right corner and select Office 365 Settings.
On the left side, select Software.
The system will detect the operating system you are running and recommend the latest version of Office for you to
install. Once you verify the version to install, click the Install button.
If you are prompted to Run or Save the file, select Run.
Microsoft Office will install in the background and after a few minutes you will receive notice stating "Welcome to
your new Office." At this screen click Next.
Follow the prompts through the installation, selecting the options you want.
When all options are selected, a video will play explaining some of the features of Office. Once the video is done, it
will ask you to Sign in. At the Sign in prompt, enter your [email protected] email address, and click Next.
Follow the remaining prompts and when complete you can begin to use the Office products.
Calculators Available for Purchase: The LC Bookroom has 60 calculators available in stock for purchase. These
calculators (model TI 30-XS Multiview) do everything students need except graphing. For students in Algebra, this
calculator will be sufficient for their needs. The calculators are available for $14 in the Bookroom (regular price in
stores is $18).
