ADVENT SUNDAY MUSICAL ORATORY
The Brothers of the Little Oratory invite you to the annual Advent Musical Oratory with the Oratory Junior
Choir on Sunday 30th November at 4.30pm in the Little Oratory. There will be readings, Advent hymns and
choral pieces. All welcome.
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION: PONTIFICAL MASS WITH CARDINAL VINCENT NICHOLS
On Monday 8th December, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Cardinal Vincent Nichols, our Archbishop, will visit the Oratory and celebrate a Pontifical High Mass at
6:30pm. The musical setting will be Victoria’s Missa pro victoria (with period instruments).
CONFIRMATION CLASSES
Confirmation Classes for boys will start on Thursday 4th December at 4.30pm. To register, please contact
Fr Edward Van den Bergh at the Oratory House or on [email protected].
Confirmation classes for girls will start on Friday 9th January at 4.30pm. To register, please contact Fr John
Fordham at the Oratory House.
The classes are open to those who will be aged 14 or older by the time of Confirmation on 26th June 2015.
ORATORY CALL TO YOUTH
The group for those aged 18–35 organises a monthly hour of prayer and adoration in front of the Blessed
Sacrament in the Little Oratory at 8pm. The next date will be Wednesday 3rd December. To get involved in

Imperial College Catholic Society’s has a talk at 7.00pm on Friday 28th November in St Wilfrid’s Hall:
“Do Catholics Need the Bible?” given by Fr Richard Ounsworth OP, a Dominican at Blackfriars, Oxford
and a Scripture scholar.
MARRIED COUPLES GROUP
The next meeting of the group for married couples will be on Thursday 4th December at 8pm in St
Wilfrid’s Hall. Fr Michael Lang will introduce and lead a reflection on questions regarding marriage and the
family that were discussed at the recent Synod of Bishops in Rome. It is important to have a clear
understanding of them, especially since the way they are generally presented in the media is at best shallow
and at worst distorted. The discussion will be based on the book Remaining in the Truth of Christ, which has
been published in various languages. The introduction to the book, which summarises the various
contributions by cardinals, bishops and scholars, is available on the website of the publisher:

The forecourt collection for the Royal National Institute of Blind People on 26th October raised £438.22.
HELPING THE HOMELESS
The Oratory has been asked by West London Churches Homeless Concern to find volunteers to cook on
Saturday nights for a shelter in Redcliffe Square between 8th November and the end of January. Since Saturday
might be a difficult evening for most of you, we have agreed with them that the food can be prepared the day
before and dropped off at the Oratory from where it will be collected. The church will give shelter to approx.
60 homeless people. We suggest that you cook in teams and information and ideas will be provided to guide
you through cooking for such large number. If you would be free to help, please get in touch with Jet
Shenkman ([email protected]). Only with your help the LCHC will be able to open on Saturday nights.
GIFT AID – HELPING THE ORATORY
If you are a UK taxpayer, the Oratory can claim back from the Inland Revenue 25p of every £1 you give, at
no cost or inconvenience to you. Setting up a Gift Aid arrangement helps the Oratory to increase its income,
which is much needed for the upkeep of the church and for the many pastoral activities in the parish. Gift aid
envelopes are available at the entrance of the church.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU HAVE TO GO INTO HOSPITAL?
In light of strict data protection rules it is essential that on entering hospital you indicate that your details or
those of your relative are to be passed to the Roman Catholic Chaplain. Also state that you or your relative
would like the Roman Catholic Chaplain to visit you. Chaplains visit the wards during the week and provide
an on-call service in case of emergency.
PRIEST REFERENCE FOR SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Parents who wish one of the Oratory Fathers to give their child a school reference must register with the
“Mass Attendance” scheme. Registration forms are available from the Oratory House.

God’s Traitors: Terror and Faith in Elizabethan England
The Catholics of Elizabethan England did not witness a golden age. Their Mass was banned, their priests
were outlawed, their faith was criminalised. In an age of assassination and Armada, those Catholics who
clung to their faith were increasingly seen as the enemy within. Award-winning author Jessie Childs
explores the Catholic predicament in Elizabethan England through the eyes of one remarkable family: the
Vauxes of Harrowden Hall. The author will talk about her book in Westminster Cathedral Hall on Thursday
27th November at 7.00pm. Doors open at 6.30pm. Tickets £10.
