February Newsletter Deadline:
All newsletter articles for February
are due in the church office by

This newsletter is published monthly.
Dear Friends in Christ,
As the New Year is now upon us, there are always thoughts about
what has happened in the past, and looking forward to better future
opportunities in the year to come. There is a custom in Italy that kind of
goes along with this thinking. As midnight on New Year’s Eve
approaches, the streets are clear. There is no traffic; there are no
pedestrians; even policemen take cover. Then, at the stroke of 12, the
widows of the houses fly open. To the sound of laughter, music, and
fireworks, each member of the family pitches out old crockery, detested
ornaments, hated furniture, and a whole catalogue of personal
possessions which remind them of something in the past year they are
determined to wipe out of their minds.
What would you throw away? What would come flying out of your
window or front door? What are you “determined to wipe out” of your
mind? We all have regrets. We all have guilt. We all have shame. We all
have memories that we would love to purge out of our minds, failures
that we would love to have utterly erased.
Isn’t that what forgiveness is all about? John writes in his first
epistle, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” So, to begin the
“purge”, we start with true repentance and sincere confession. Pour out
your sins at the altar of the cross of Christ. His forgiveness truly “wipes
out” those sins, having paid for them by His sacrifice. And the most
beautiful thing about this, is that when forgiveness takes place in the
eyes of God, He no longer has any memory of that sin, as He says
through the prophet Isaiah 43:25, “I, I am He Who blots out your
transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.”
So like the Italians, throw out all those regrets, all that guilt, all
that shame, all the things in our memories that cause us to wince and
shake our heads. Repent of them, confess them to your Savior, and He
will “wipe them out”. He gives us the opportunity to start fresh, not just
once a year, but every day, and every hour, and every moment. His love
us unconditional and His mercy, grace, and forgiveness is boundless!
Have a very blessed and refreshing New Year!
In Christ’s love,

Financial Report
A proposal to revise the Constitution regarding board terms was presented to the congregation. Currently board terms
are one year with a maximum of three terms. It is proposed to change the terms to two years with a two term
maximum. The Chairmanship positions are currently one year term ‘cycles’ from vice-chairman to chairman-elect to
chairman. It is proposed to change this to a two term ‘cycle’ from chairman-elect to chairman, and eliminate the vicechairman position.
Through November over $60,000 has been received from the PIM campaign. Currently our mortgage balance is
$377,500 and the Cougar Care balance is $41,700.
A list of some of the short term plan suggestions from members was presented along with some long term plan
possibilities. The Church Council will review these suggestions to develop a short term (2015) implementation plan as
well as a three to five year plan that focuses on outreach, facility usage, and being better ambassadors.
Meeting adjourned and Pastor closed with prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Jodie Ellingson
Congregation Secretary
Financial Report
November 2014 offerings were $22,622, compared to $26,762 in October. (Thanksgiving and last Sunday in
November will be included in the December income because they were not deposited until December 1.) Total
November income was $37,799 including offerings, “Adopt a Bill”, debt reduction and the Thrivent programs. Total
expenses paid were $33,963. Fiscal year to date offerings total $102,578, compared to budgeted offerings to date of
$99,350.
As of the end of November our mortgage balance is down to $377, 459 and the Cougar Care loan is down to $41,708.
We are hopeful that the holiday offerings for Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas will allow us to finish repaying the
money we borrowed from our designated savings accounts. We give thanks for all those who have contributed toward
this great progress in reducing our debt load. While it is obvious that the designated contributions toward the debt
(PIM and debt reduction) made a big difference we couldn’t have done it without the regular Sunday offerings and
Adopt-A-Bill contributions that have allowed us to keep all our bills and obligations current this year.
Through November 2014, we have received $58,676 through our Partnership in Ministry (PIM) campaign which means
we have received $11,735 (20%) to use for outreach activities to spread God’s Word, $23,470 (40%) toward projects
(including security cameras, classroom renovations, chair lifts and parking lot resurfacing) and $23,470 (40%) to pay
down the mortgage principal. The total amount pledged for the three year campaign was $101,348 so we have
received about 58% of the amount pledged at the end of the first two years. I plan to give each PIM pledger a
statement of the amount given compared to the pledge at the end of the year.
Respectfully,
Susan Kupsky
Financial Secretary
