on “Factories Act 1948 – Legal Issues, Remedies – Practical Approach” on Thursday, 18th
December 2014 from 10.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. at Hotel Swosti Premium, P-1, Jaydev
Vihar, Bhubaneswar
The objective of the workshop is to facilitate executives responsible for various legal
compliances to discharge their responsibilities and obligations under the Act, efficiently and
confidently. The knowledge sharing interactive workshop has been customized to update the
concerned executives and to understand the provisions of the Act, statutory compliance, rules
etc.
A full day programme will be devoted the implementation of the Factory Act 1948, and related
case laws and problem solving. The important issue will also be discussed at the workshop
which include Reference to Time of Duty, Approval, Licensing and Registration of Factories,
Notice to certain accidents, notice to certain diseases, compensatory holidays, certificate of
fitness, power to exempt factories, Service to notice, power of court to make orders,
Occupational Safety and Health etc.

 Salient features of Factories Act, 1948; Definitions, applicability, licensing, Registration;
Duties of Occupier, Powers of Inspectors, Procedure of adoption of States Factory Rules
under Factories Act 1948. Maintenance of various Records / Registers

Provisions of Safety of Workers at workplace, disposal of wastes and affluent, Precaution
against dangerous fumes, Pressure plants, Revolving machinery; Prevention against
dangerous forms, power of inspectors, appointment of safety officers

Disaster Management, Control of industrial major accidents / hazards at workplace,
provisions relating to hazardous process, provisions relating to welfare of workers,
canteen, rest room, crèches, appointment of welfare officers, provisions relating to first
aid, medical facilities, etc.; latest case laws.

Different provisions as applicable to the Contract Labour (R &A) Act, Important
Judgments relating to the Act.

V.K. Sharma, B.Sc., B.E., M. Tech., LLB, (Ex-Chief Inspector of Factories, Delhi)
Mr. V.K. Sharma, is a M.Tech (Industrial Engineering) in Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
and B.E. (Electrical Engineering) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and securing
First Division and ninth rank in order of merit. He has rich experience of over 3 decades and
shall provide practical solutions to the problems faced by the Units . He has conducted many
in-house as well as open training programs and workshops on Factories Act and Rules,
Industrial Safety, Mining, Occupational Safety and Health for corporate executives,
government officials and school teachers. He developed major accident hazards control
system for Delhi Government for major hazards units besides conducting training programmes
for managements of major hazards installations. He worked for adoption of CIMAH Rules for
updation of factories rules. He is also visiting faculty for Centre for Occupational Health,
Environmental Health and Gandhi Labour Foundation, Odisha, Employer Organizations, and
Regional Labour Institutes.
