SHELEG ON SHABBAT? SHEESH!
With many away in more attractive climates, the forecast calls for a winter wonderland to
greet us Shabbat morning. Get those boots ready and make tracks to shul where a warm
davening awaits.

We regret to inform you of the passing of Lewis Gross, Yaakov Yehuda ben Zvi Dov, a”h,
beloved father of our dear member, Olivia Gross Neufeld. Shiva will be held at the Neufeld
home, 631 Michele Place, until Monday morning, January 26th. There will be a minyan for
maariv at the shiva home Sunday evening at 9:00pm.
Mazal Tov
Mazal Tov to our dear members, Shelley and Steven Hubert, upon the engagement of their
son, Yoel, to Jen Fisher. Mazal Tov to siblings, Yaakov, Michal, Moriah and Keren, and to the
entire Hubert and Fisher family.
Seudah Shlishit
Seudah Shlishit is sponsored by Karen and Steven Yager in memory of Steven’s father, David
Yager, Dovid ben HaRav Zev, a’h, and by Elana and Sam Haddad in commemoration of the
first yahrzeit for Elana’s sister, Evelin bat Dina, a”h.
An Incredible Shabbat for an Incredible Soul—Phillip Bach, a”h
In commemoration of the first yahrzeit for Philip Bach, Feivish Shmuel ben Dovid, a”h, a
special Shabbat in Philip’s memory will take place on February 21st. The Shabbat will be
topped off with a keynote address at 8:30pm, Saturday night at the shul by Chava Willig Levy.
An award-winning author, powerful advocate and renowned motivational speaker, Chava
Willig Levy is famous for her humor, passion and compassion. As a person who gets
around in a motorized wheelchair, she has shattered many stereotypes about people with
disabilities, be they in the workplace, in the community, in the classroom or on the college
campus. Her memoir, A Life Not with Standing (JDAM 2015), will be available for purchase
at the event at a specially discounted cost of just $20, and 10% of the proceeds will go to
the FDNow Foundation in Phillip, a”h’s, memory. Thank you to the following families for
donating to this event: Dublinsky, Gampel, Hiller, Hilsenrath, Levy, Libkind and Septimus. If
you would like to participate in this special Shabbat, please see Harry Dublinsky or email
him at [email protected].
An Evening of Magic and Thrills
On Motzei Shabbat, January 31st, at 8:00pm, the YINW will be hosting its annual winter
event! Our opening act is a man who needs no introduction, magician Francis Menotti. But
we are just getting warmed up. Our headliner is none other than David Darwin aka The One
Man Sideshow. Yu may remember him from America’s Got Talent! That’s right! We pulled
out all the stops! All this for just $54 per person which includes a lavish dairy buffet, a splitting
of the pot and raffle prizes. All proceeds go to benefit the YINW. Please RSVP to Mordechai
Gampel at [email protected] and let him know you are in! If you can contribute a raffle
prize to the evening, let Mordechai know.
Continue the Unity
On Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm, February 8th, the mothers of ‘our three boys,’ Rachel
Fraenkel, Bat Galim Shaer and Iris Yifrach will be at The Ramaz Upper School (current site
of Kehilat Jeshurun under Rabbi Haskel Lookstein) at a large community-wide solidarity
event to Continue the Unity and love of Israel that the mothers and their three sons, Naftali,
z’l, Gilad, z’l and Eyal, z’l inspired across the globe. Hosted by KJ, the event is sponsored by
major synagogues across the city, with a prestigious Host Committee.
Rachel Fraenkel, Bat Galim Shaer and Iris Yifrach, touched the world with their grace,
strength and faith. During the three weeks that their sons, z’l, were missing, the Jewish
world was united in hope. The event promises to be the opportunity to re-ignite that
feeling of unity and hope in our community in the presence of these incredible women.

Israel Update – Top Ten Israel Hikes – Mount Zefachot
Continuing are latest countdown. Here’s number 8.
This Eilat-area tiyul is easy to find – follow the road that leads to the Egyptian border at Taba,
park slightly east of the Eilat Field School and start climbing. Mount Zefachot is not an easy
ascent, nor is it a particularly beautiful climb. There are some tricky ups and a few cliffs to
keep it interesting. But this hike is all about the payoff, and it’s spectacular.
From the top of the mountain, you get a panoramic view of the entire Red Sea area. You
can see four countries from this vantage point: Israel, of course, but also Jordan, Egypt,
and the tip of Saudi Arabia. The sea remains a shimmering blue year round, and Eilat’s mild
winters make this a perfect hike to break the cold of Israel’s more northern locales.
Once you’ve drunk in the view, there are several options for the descent depending on how
much you want to walk. If you take the longest option (about four hours), you’ll end up near
Taba; you can then take a public Egged bus or taxi back to your car.
