Question #1
Will students follow a specific testing schedule and is the test timed?
• All districts must administer the test according to the state schedule. Click
here (PARCC FAQ) to see the test schedule.
• The PARCC tests will be timed for all students except those with IEPs, IAPs,
or LEP plans that indicate extended time accommodations.
• Unit (session) testing times can be found here in the PARCC Assessment
Guides and here in the PARCC FAQ document.
Note: Teachers may post the time remaining for testing units using a clock or
projector type display. Additionally, the test administration script includes a
prompt to notify students when 10 minutes remain in the unit.

Will students use dictionaries and thesauruses on the assessment?
No, students will not be allowed to use dictionaries and thesauruses on any part of
the test.

Will students be able to highlight, annotate, and underline in the test
booklets?
Yes, students will be able to:
• Underline in passages and questions within the consumable test
booklet, but not answer choices
• Use non-carbon yellow highlighters in the text of the passages and
questions
If students want to “eliminate answers,” we recommend: (a) highlighting
text in answer options or (b) placing an X to the right of any eliminated
answer options. However, crossing out possible answer could create
scoring issues.

What calculators can students use on the PARCC assessment?
PARCC integrates reading and writing, thus the use of a dictionary or thesaurus
would compromise the measurement of many reading standards. However, the
scoring of the assessment recognizes that students do not have these resources
during the administration of the test.

Will students be able to use calculators on the entire math test?
Students with a calculator accommodation may use a calculator on the entire test.
However, other students may only use a calculator on the calculator portion(s) of
the test.
KEY POINT: In some grades, a test unit may include some questions that allow
calculators and others that do not. When students get to the calculator-allowed
questions, they will be prompted to raise their hand to ask for a calculator. Test
administrators should be prepared to facilitate this process. More information is

The resources are linked on the LDOE website PARCC page and may be
accessed by clicking here.
The ELA test will tell students how many choices to select.
Math:
• Students in grades 3-5 will be told how many correct answers exist.
• Students in grades 6-8 may or may not be told the number of correct
answers.

Team-level committees should use the PARCC Accessibility and Accommodations
Manual for complete guidance and the Louisiana Quick Guide to Accessibility

When will results be released?
Test results for the first year of PARCC (spring 2015) will be returned in fall
2015, so that results can be double-checked to make sure scoring of
students’ results was fair and accurate. This is standard practice for any
first year assessment.
