2015 Philoptochos Scholarship for College

Philoptochos Ypapanti Chapter Annunciation Cathedral‐Atlanta, Georgia 2015 Scholarship Application (College) Scholarship Program The Philoptochos Ypapanti Chapter has two $2000 scholarships (Anna Mae Livaditis and Philoptochos) dedicated to promote, encourage, and advance education. These scholarships are limited to students who are members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Atlanta, Georgia. Eligibility In order to apply and be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must meet all of the following criteria: 1. Be a pledge member of the church (student’s who’s income is based on family income will be considered part of the parent’s pledge) 2. Be a current college/university undergraduate student 3. Attend an accredited college/university 4. Take at least 12 credit hours of course work 5. Planning to attend college/university full time during the calendar year 6. Demonstrate financial need foremost, as well as scholastic achievement and involvement in the church and community Application Procedures In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must ensure all of the following procedures are followed: 1. Applicants must use the current year application. 2. Applicants are responsible for completing all sections of the application correctly. 3. All application documents, including transcripts, test documentation, recommendation letters, etc. MUST be received in the church office (or via email where indicated) by the end of business Friday, April 17, 2015. 4. All information received will be kept confidential. No items will be returned. Applications received after April 17, 2015, and incomplete applications will not be considered for review. No exceptions will be made. 5. Activities section: do not include activities/information from high school. 6. Attach a 500 word essay addressing how a college education will impact your life, goals and contribution to church and society (typed applications only). 7. Submit two letters of recommendation. One should come from a current professor. The other could come from a recent school instructor, counselor, advisor, employer, or leader in the church. Letters must be currently dated, submitted in a sealed envelope, and included with your application OR they may be emailed directly from the instructor/teacher, etc directly to [email protected]. 8. A current official transcript (including fall semester 2014) is required. 1
9. Applications may be mailed or hand‐delivered. In the event that no applicant has met the requirements of or deemed eligible for this scholarship, then no scholarship will be awarded. Awarding the scholarship to an eligible candidate in the high school category is at the discretion of the Philoptochos Scholarship Committee. Notification of Scholarship Award Only applicants awarded the scholarship will be notified. The recipient will be announced on Youth Sunday (May 17, 2015) in the Bulletin. 2
