ABWA Scholarship Application
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION GUIDELINES
FIVE RIVERS CHARTER CHAPTER
AMERICAN BUSINESS WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION
GENERAL GUIDELINES
Final selection is in May or June each year for use in summer or the following fall semester. Scholarships
must be applied for each year. There is no automatic renewal. Only one local scholarship will be
awarded to each applicant each year, but there is no limit on the number of years you may apply.
Scholarship awards may be used for tuition, fees, or books. Checks will be made out to the recipient and
the institution.
The number of scholarships and the amount is established by a majority vote of the membership each year
in January or February.
Two (2) scholarships of five hundred dollars ($500) each will be awarded in 2016 by our local chapter.
However, we sponsor two more scholarships of this amount through the TVCC Foundation. Apply on the
TVCC Foundation website if you will be attending TVCC.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
No member of the Five Rivers Charter Chapter, or any relation of a member, is eligible for a local
scholarship. All other female scholars or any age religion or race are eligible, if they meet all other
eligibility requirements. Applicants must be United States citizens.
Scholastic standing must be at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is perfect.
Female applicants enrolling in at least 12 credits at an accredited college or university, including
community colleges and junior colleges, including on-line studies are eligible.
APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
Each applicant must submit a completed application form, an official transcript, three (2) letters of
reference, and a personal profile that includes goals, and may include any work experience, volunteer
work, or other background material the applicant considers pertinent. Personal profile should be one or
two pages at most. Please do NOT submit pictures, 3 ring binders, or other hard covers. Incomplete
submissions will not be considered.
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 15, 2016. NO EXCEPTIONS CAN BE ALLOWED
(Applications postmarked April 15, 2016 will be accepted.)
The chapter education committee will review all complete submissions and select a finalist using a point
system where 10 is a perfect score. Points will be awarded for grade point average and personal profile.
The personal profile that has a neat, professional appearance, correct spelling and punctuation, and
indicates a dedication to future goals and a clear understanding of what it will take to achieve those goals
will earn the most points. Our members applaud hard work and determination.
The entire membership at the May or June meeting will make the final selection from the summary of the
finalists as prepared by the education committee.
All applicants will be notified of acceptance or rejection. The successful applicant will be invited to a
chapter meeting to introduce herself to the membership and to receive a certificate of award. Funds will
be disbursed at that time or as needed.
