Edwards School of Business (ESB) Rooms 103, 112, and 116 Facilitators will be conducting the workshop so you not only experience spoken word but also learn ways to incorporate this in the classroom. We are pleased to present a special workshop for all participants. Write Out Loud is a community based initiative rooted in Tonight it’s Poetry, Saskatoon’s only weekly poetry show. Write Out Loud seeks to expand the influence of spoken word in Saskatoon, to make it an even more insightful and receptive city. Over the years, many audience members and poets who have participated in Tonight it’s Poetry have expressed how invigorating it is to have a regular venue where people can share their intimate thoughts. Write Out Loud’s objective is to make spoken word more accessible both as an art form and an essential means of communication. We believe the first step is getting young people involved. By going into schools to perform and facilitate workshops, Write Out Loud will foster both appreciation of and participation in spoken word among youth. We will help young people organize themselves so that they can develop spoken word through their own open readings and competitions. We intend to pilot a monthly poetry show that will be all ages, so that bright young minds have a venue to share their work and listen to others. Main Facilitators: Ahmad: Ahmad Majid has had a fascination with words and has been surrounded by hip-­‐hop music for as long as his memory serves. After being exposed to Def Poetry Jam by his older brother, he felt inspired to begin his writing process and sort out his often upset and frustrated thoughts. His style combines clever rhyme schemes while still addressing important social/political and issues of human rights. Dash: Dash Reimer was one of those kids who thought poetry was a little bit overblown. But then he fell headfirst into spoken word and now he delivers wordflurries and speechrhymes as a job. He was on Saskatoon's 2014 slam team and is the city of bridge's current grand slam champion. He's currently in the U of S Education program and has been facilitating youth spoken word workshops for years. PLEASE NOTE: ALL SESSIONS AND EVENTS THAT ARE NOT LOCATED WITHIN THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION WILL HAVE VOLUNTEERS ASSISTING PARTICIPANTS TO APPROPRIATE FACILITIES.
