Republic of Congo and Sudan in
the heart of Africa on the other
side of the globe.
Congo missionary, Pete
Ekstrand, will be here speaking
and sharing on February 23rd
BOTH during worship but also
during the Adult Sunday School
time. Pete Ekstrand actually
worked here at NLECC in the 70s
in youth ministries. It was with a
program through the Covenant
Denomination at the time. Added
to this our church has long
supported him and he has revisited
us on many occasions. Pete will
update us on the Covenant Kids
This spring, it will be two years since we first shared a vision of being a Host
Church for homeless families through a new venture called Family Promise.
Well we have been hovering in a holding pattern since then, silent and
working behind the scenes, waiting for the most opportune time to launch this
new ministry opportunity.
Well the mother organization at the county level has the three legs to the
stool, as they call them, in place. An operating board of directors, 11 Host
Churches (though they seek 2 more), and $90,000 in the bank which together
will be the foundation to providing families shelter for each week of the
calendar year here in Kandiyohi County.
You don’t have to read very far or wide in God’s word to know he cares
about the homeless, the poor and the sojourners. It actually is all over! Come
on the 22nd and hear many passages which call out to God’s people to be
people of justice and compassion. We need to have a heart for what moves
the heart of God!!
Well, I am all about a ‘hand up’ before a ‘hand out’ and this program delivers
the goods in grace and with great community care. On Family Promise
Sunday, February 22nd , we will share all about it during both services. The
preaching will go in that direction along with the opportunity to hear from our
Family Promise Coordinators, while viewing a DVD which gives you a great
picture of the program. You will hear about the problem, the need AND how
we here at NLECC can be part of the solution. We get to build relationships
with those in need while getting a better picture of poverty and its results.
Be praying for a role you can play to make this possible here at our church!!
Come with an open mind and a compassionate heart. Remember a great
commitment to the great commission and the great commandment makes for
a great church!!
In His Grip, Pastor Kevin

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
9:00 Adult SS Option: Jim Molenaar
DVD Class entitled “Holy Ambition: Turning God-Shaped Dreams into Reality”
If the idea of walking with Jesus doesn't make you uncomfortable, you haven't thought seriously enough
about His presence in your life. The passed-down, packaged Jesus turns out to be quite different from the one
who steps alive and kicking out of the pages of Scripture. Author, pastor and radio teacher Chip Ingram
outlines what it takes to follow this renegade Jesus toward the idea of Holy Ambition. Stretching outside of
your comfortable existence is just the beginning. Dislocated hearts and broken spirits give way to radical,
faith-filled strategies that equip you to truly make a difference for God right now
10:30 Adult SS Option: Gary Swenson
DVD Class entitled 'Faith Lessons' a Ray Vander Laan's series
Uncover the passion and commitment early believers displayed as they claimed Jesus in the face of fierce
consequences and powerful adversaries.

Please consider coming to our next INQUIRERS CLASS
Sunday February 8th from 3:30-8:30pm w/ a meal
provided at 6pm. Child Care is being provided. Please
RSVP to the church office (320-354-2446 or
[email protected]) by Feb. 4th so we have a count
for meals and child care.
Our Denomination believes membership should be based
on new life in Christ which means all those seeking
membership at ECC share their faith stories with our
Elders. This is our true basis for who comes into
membership… new life in Christ. However, we do require
all seeking membership to attend the Inquires Class to hear
more of our ministries, beliefs, history, core values and
denominational distinctive previous to making this
important decision. This is good for perspective members
OR just those seeking more information about our church
and denomination.
Then those seeking to pursue membership are invited
to share testimony with our Elders in late February
TBD.
Please prayerfully consider joining us in a greater way here
at ECC.

Risk Tolerance
Investing would be a lot simpler if risk and return were inversely related. There definitely would be a
lot less mystery to it all if there were plenty of low risk, high return options to choose from. However,
we must usually assume more risk with our investments in order to have the potential for a greater
return.
For example, high quality bonds generally carry less market risk than stocks -- but they usually offer a
lower return. So while stocks tend to carry more market risk than bonds, that higher risk may create the
potential for a higher return.
The potential for a great return can be alluring but you can’t simply ignore the risk involved. Just the
opposite is true. Not only should you be aware of the risk involved with your investments, you should
also know how much risk you are comfortable assuming. This is called your risk tolerance.
When determining your risk tolerance, consider these questions:
•
How soon will you need to cash in your investments?
•
How will a loss on your investment affect the rest of your finances?
•
If your investment loses money, can you afford to stick with the investment and wait for it to
recover?
If you determine that your risk tolerance is very low, it doesn’t mean you should avoid risk or shun
investing altogether; not investing can be risky, too! Whether your tolerance is high, low, or
somewhere in-between, you need an investment plan that properly reflects the level of risk you’re
willing to take on. Additionally, remember that your risk tolerance can change over time or as your
financial situation changes. As such, it’s a good idea to regularly assess your risk tolerance.
Whether you’re new to investing or a long-time investor, Steve Allison, our local Field Service
Representative, can help you determine your risk tolerance and discuss appropriate investment options
for you. For more information, contact Steve at 877-768-1766 or email him at
[email protected].
Do these questions about risk and return raise even more questions for you? If so, we can help you get
answers. Send your investment and personal finance questions to [email protected]. And

Link Newsletter
February 2015
Greetings from the Link!
How is your new year’s resolution holding up? I know that here at the Link, we are working hard on ours! This
is an exciting time for us as we look forward to a year of helping people in northern Kandiyohi County. We
continue to create new and better ways to serve our community. Long-term goals and strategies are being
developed as we move forward with our new Director, Nancy Johnson.
Johnson and her husband Jeff moved to Spicer from the Twin Cities in 2009. She brings more than 35 years of
fund development and planning experience as Director of Development in a number of organizations including
Regions Hospital Foundation, HealthEast Care System and Lifetrack Resources. The past four-plus years
Johnson served as the Coordinator at Willmar Area Community Foundation. She was the lead Foundation staff
person to establish the New London-Spicer Area Fund. Johnson looks forward to visiting with The Link
supporters in the months ahead.
It is hard to think spring, but the Link is already planning our annual “Just the Basics” event! We are looking for
volunteers and donations to make this event happen! This year the event will be held on Saturday, April 25th at
Cross Roads Community Church!
Many of the families that we serve struggle to purchase basic necessities once the bills are paid. Be on the
lookout for convenient drop sites to donate specific items, such as: toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex and
laundry soap! This event is not possible without caring people like you! Thanks for your kindness.
Also mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Rib Fest on Sunday, June 14th-a fun community event that
attracted almost a thousand people in 2014.

trim the sails in a new direction.
Keep your eyes on the horizon for the summer's treasure maps

New Addition Construction Plan Update!!
Dear New London,
Over the past many months, the Board of Directors of LBBC has been making plans to add onto the Dining
Hall in order to provide the needed space for both Lake Beauty programs and for additional guest groups to
host their events at LBBC.
We had planned to start construction in the fall of 2014 but the Board met in August and decided to delay the
start of construction in order to provide additional information to our member churches about the need for
additional space and to raise some additional funds before the start of construction. We have continued to do
fundraising and communicate the benefits that this addition will bring to camp. We have received additional
funds for the project and, at this point, we have $82,449.69 in the bank. We still want to raise additional funds,
but there is a critical need for the additional space as the ministries at Lake Beauty continue to grow. As such,
the Board met in January to discuss the options and made a decision to authorize construction to begin early in
the spring of 2015.
There are a few churches who have taken on the challenge of holding a, "Kingdom Investment" Sunday where
they spoke to their congregation about investing financially in this project. There are also several churches that
are having their Kingdom Investment Sunday in 2015. With these additional churches taking on the challenge
and others who have said that they will help support the project financially, we are moving ahead with
construction. We have set up financing through our local bank with better than expected terms to provide the
additional funds to make this building addition a reality.
As we move ahead with the construction, there will also be many opportunity for those who would like to
come and help construct this new building. Our plan right now is to get the foundation in and the building
framed by contractors to complete that work in a timely manner. The closing in and the finish work will be
done with as much volunteer labor as we can get, which we trust will be most of it. There will be significant
12 | P a g e
opportunities for those who are gifted in the building and finishing aspect of construction, and your help will
be just as beneficial as those who have contributed their financial resources to make this happen. For every
person who comes and helps build, we will avoid paying to have this work done. It is also a great opportunity
for fellowship and to create ownership in this project and in LBBC as there is something very special about
sweat equity in the camp.
This building addition is the greatest facility need that Lake Beauty has at this time, it is consistent with our
campus master plan and it will significantly enhance our capacity for additional ministry. Please share this
update with others in your church community and continue to encourage individuals to make a "Kingdom
Investment" through a financial contribution to this project and/or a commitment to come and share their
construction and finishing talents when that help is needed. Thank you!
If you have any questions or comments - Please contact Brian Alnes - [email protected] or 320-219-3199 or
Paul Zahasky Board Chair at [email protected] .
These are exciting times for LBBC!!
