Before the Tournament
Step 1 – Review the Schedule
Please review the schedule and check for the following:
--that your team name and number are correct
--that your challenge placement and level is correct
--that there is no conflict with your Team Challenge and Instant Challenge
times.
Notify the Tournament Director IMMEDIATELY should you notice an irregularity
on the schedule. Any team that does not arrive at the competition site before its
scheduled time may not get a chance to compete in the event. The Challenge
Master at each competition site will determine if a late-arriving team has time to
complete the event.
♪♪♪Action Item: Copy the Media Release Form (at the end of this packet)
and have each team member fill one out, signed by parents/guardians. These
MUST be turned in at Registration table at the Tournament.
Step 2 – Know these Procedures
TEAM CHALLENGE: Each team should report to the competition site ready
to perform 20 minutes prior to its scheduled performance time.
INSTANT CHALLENGE: Each team should report to the competition site
ready to perform 15 minutes prior to the team's scheduled competition times.
Please remember that a completed Declaration of Independence form must be
given to the Appraiser who checks teams in at the Instant Challenge site.
Structural Challenge: Lose to Win : Each team should check their
structures in with the check-in Appraisers NO EARLIER than 1 hour before the
scheduled competition time. Your structure should be picked up immediately
before entering the Prep Area, which is about 20 minutes before scheduled
competition time.
Step 3 – Information for all Teams
Teams must refer to the Rules of the Road and the Central Challenge for all forms
needed for their individual competition. Time will not be given in the Prep Area to
complete paper work needed for the Challenge.
Teams should be sportsmanlike in their demeanor throughout the tournament.
Penalties can and will be given for language and behavior that is rude, discourteous
or not in the spirit of competition. Team Managers are responsible for their
team the entire day, including any activities planned as time fillers between
their competition and the Awards ceremony.
Final score sheets need to be picked up in front of the awards podium immediately
following the Awards Ceremony. We will NOT mail these to you. If you cannot be
available to pick up your team’s scores, please designate someone to do it for you.
Team Managers of teams advancing to the Affiliate Finals MUST attend the
meeting following the Regional Tournament Awards Ceremony in order to receive
their Affiliate Finals packet. The meeting place will be announced at the ceremony.
Each team advancing to the Affiliate Finals MUST be represented in Kearney
by an Appraiser trained during this competition season. The Appraiser must
have appraised at their Regional Competition.
Team Managers should bring the following Appraiser information to the
Affiliate Finals meeting.
Appraiser Name:
Phone numbers:
Email address:
Appraised which challenge:
Appraiser job:
Is Appraiser related to a child in DI? Which Challenge and level?
♪♪♪ Action Item: Please fill out the Advancing Form located at the end of
this tournament packet prior to the tournament and bring it with you.
As soon as the Affiliate Finals schedule is prepared, a letter will be sent to the
Team Manager and the schedule will be posted on the NCAPS website at
www.ncaps.org.
Step 1 - Registration
At the Tournament Site
The Team Manager of Record must check in at the Registration Table and let the
Tournament Officials know the team has arrived.
There will be a ‘checker table’ with extra papers if the team has failed to bring all
required paperwork.
♪♪♪ Action Item: Hand in all your team’s Media Release Forms at this time.
Step 2 – Competition Details
Please confirm your team’s competition times with the tournament officials at the
registration desk. Should there be any additional tournament information, you will
receive it then.
Step 3 – Appraiser
Each team must also provide a trained Appraiser as per Team Rule requirements to
help with the tournament. If your trained Appraiser does not report, we must
assess a 50 point score deduction to your team.
Step 4 – Acclimate your team
Find the following to make your team feel at ease: performance site, unloading
zone, restrooms, cafeteria, souvenir stand, container for the raffle, and a good
place to make camp.
Step 5 – Visit the Souvenir Stand
Pins: This year challenge pins will be available along with the state pin as a
complete set. The theme for Nebraska in Destination Imagination revolves around
Taking Creativity by Storm. Items will be available at the souvenir stand.
Other Items: The state board will offer other exciting souvenir items and fun
collectables. Again, selection and number are limited, so shop early. There will also
be a selection of DI Global Finals 2014 Collector Pins, including foreign pins.
Teams Advancing to Affiliate Finals
State DI Officials determine how many teams will advance from each region to the
Affiliate Finals in Kearney, NE, April 11th, 2015. The number of advancing teams
from your region will vary each year based on the number of teams registered
across the state competing in each challenge and level. The number of advancing
teams from your region will be announced at the awards ceremony of your regional
tournament.
Awards
First, second and third place winners will be awarded in each challenge and level. In
addition, the teams advancing to Affiliate Finals will be announced. Three additional
awards COULD be given. They are:
1. DaVinci Award: Given to reward a unique approach to a solution, risk
taking, or outstanding creativity (not skill or talent). For this award
solutions need not be successful to be received.
