ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY
Date: Tuesday, March 17, 2015
Time: 11:30 a.m.—2:30 p.m.
Lunch served at 12:00 noon
Cost: $12.00 per person
May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, may good luck pursue
you each morning and night! Let’s celebrate the “Luck of the Irish”.
All are welcome to join us for an afternoon filled with Irish food, music, and fun!
Lunch will consist of: corned beef, cabbage, boiled potatoes, carrots, tossed salad, jello,
bread and dessert. Wearing green is a must!
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Main Office until Friday, March 13th or
until filled. Transportation to this event will be provided by S.M.A.R.T.

A.A.R.P. TAX ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE
The A.A.R.P./I.R.S. Tax Assistance Program will once again be available here at the
Center during the upcoming tax season. We offer free tax help to low and moderate income
taxpayers, especially those 60 and older. The program runs through April 14th.
The tax assistance volunteers will be available every Tuesday from
9:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. to assist with all varieties of tax returns.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL OUR APPOINTMENTS HAVE BEEN FILLED.

When you come to your appointment, please bring the following:
Copy of last year’s income tax return
Social Security statement
1099(s) and W-2 (pension statement)
Interest and dividends statement from bank
Property Tax bills for winter and summer
Proof of health insurance including the Affordable Care Act-Market Place
“SNOW DAY” POLICY
When Roseville Community Schools and East Detroit Public Schools are closed
due to inclement weather (i.e. “snow day”), all scheduled senior programs and drop-in
activities will also be cancelled.

BUILDING EXPANSION NEWS
The Recreation Authority Center is still under construction, and even though we have been
dealing with extreme cold temperatures they are still making progress. Our programs have
returned to the small gym and the activity center, and now we wait patiently for the opening
of our new Senior Center addition. The excitement is building as we can see the visual
changes to the facility. Thanks for being so understanding as we wait for the final phase of
the project to be completed.
VETERANS SERVICES
The process of finding, applying for, receiving, and maintaining veterans benefits can be
confusing and frustrating. The goal of the Veterans Services Department is to provide
outstanding service to the veterans and their families who reside in Macomb County.
John, our Advocate, will be available to assist those with questions on
Wednesday, March 4th and Wednesday, March 18th, from 9:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m.

L.B. WILLIAMS “GOURMET GUILD”
The L. B. Williams Room is a student operated restaurant located in the Roseville Middle
School. Professional food service is the central focus of their program. Students learn
culinary arts, hospitality management, and food service sciences. Our group is scheduled
to meet for lunch at the restaurant on Friday, March 27th at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $6.00 per
person, and that includes gratuity. Please remember that the students are just learning and
we need to be patient with them while we enjoy a wonderful lunch at a reasonable price.
Registration is a must and is taken at the Senior Office.
DOLLAR DOUGHNUT DAY
Monday, March 30th, 9:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m.
Whether you’re partial to a jelly-filled, glazed, Boston crème or a fritter,
everybody loves a doughnut. So mark your calendar and join us on Monday, March 30th
for a yummy breakfast treat! We will be selling doughnuts in the lobby for a
$1.00 each and as usual, the coffee will be on us.
All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Senior Center coffee fund.
SENIOR VAN TRANSPORTATION
Senior Van Transportation is available Monday—Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The
dispatchers will make reservations for Eastpointe and Roseville residents, on a first come,
first serve basis. Rides must be scheduled in advance. The fee is $1.00 per way. Vans will
travel from 8 Mile to 15 Mile Roads and Jefferson to Hoover. You must be ready for your
ride 15 minutes prior to pick up time. For complete details, please contact the Senior Van
Transportation lines Monday—Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Eastpointe residents should call
586-445-5085 and Roseville residents should call 586-445-5482.
JUST FOR FUN
“LUCK OF THE IRISH” FUN BINGO
May the luck of the Irish be with you! This month our bingo will be all about St. Patrick’s Day.
Mark your calendar for Monday, March 9th at 1:00 p.m. There is a $1.00 charge for this
activity. All participants receive a raffle ticket for the grand prize at the end of the event.
ATTENTION CARD PLAYERS
If you like to play Rummy please join us on Tuesday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. If you are a
Pinochle or Euchre player we offer tournament play every Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
The cost is $2.00 per person (includes snacks & prize money).
Tournament play consists of eight games, with a break for coffee and cookies.
SIT ‘N KNIT/CROCHET
If you like to knit or crochet, please join us on Mondays and Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. If you
are just a beginner, we will teach you or if you need a refresher course, we can do that too.
Otherwise, simply work on your own project and enjoy the companionship of our group.
Wii BOWLING
Oh my goodness, it has been quite a challenge hosting the bowling league this time.
With all the weather related cancellations, we continue to have players and teams unable
to bowl. We are working diligently to get all the teams caught up. If you need to
make up a session, please contact the Senior Office. Once all the scores have been
submitted we will post the standings.
MOVIE DAY
Mark your calendar for the following films: Monday, March 16th—Alexander and the
Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day starring Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner
(rescheduled from January) and on Monday, March 23rd—St. Vincent starring Bill Murray
and Melissa McCarthy. Showtime is 1:00 p.m. Pop and Popcorn are $1.00.
RED HAT NEWS
All Red Hat “Chili Peppers” are invited on an outing to a play and lunch. On Thursday,
March 26th we will be going to see “The Great Gatsby” at the Macomb Center for the
Performing Arts. Lunch follows at the Golden Corral. The bus will depart from the Center at
9:00 a.m. The cost for this activity is $28.00 per person. Look for complete details in your

STROKE SUPPORT GROUP
Our Stroke Club is a support group for stroke survivors and their caregivers. We meet every
Thursday at 12:30 p.m. for fellowship, games, and snacks. Membership is only $1.00 each
week, unless we have a special event planned.
HEALTH & FITNESS
SHAPE—UP
This “free” fun one hour class combines chair fitness along with low impact aerobics. Join us
for a great workout! The class is held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.
LINE DANCE
Put on your dancing shoes and join us at the Senior Center every
Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. You will learn repetitive steps to a wide variety of music.
The fee is just $1.00 per one-hour class. All are welcome!
Please note: There will be no class on March 17th.
PICKLEBALL
The Pickleball program is back and better than ever. The newly renovated courts in the small
gym are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m. Pickleball is a
racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and ping pong. This game was
invented in the mid 1960’s as a children’s backyard pastime, but quickly became popular
among adults as a fun game for players of all skill levels.
Please join us, new players are always welcome!
Please note: There will be no Pickleball on March 17th.
ZUMBA GOLD
Enjoy the Latin rhythms and dance yourself into fitness with Zumba Gold!
You’ll experience dances such as: meringue, salsa, cumbia, hip-hop, and more.
Class is every Thursday from 10:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m. The drop in fee is $7.00 per class,
or sign up for four classes for $23.00 or eleven classes for $60.00.

REFLEXOLOGY AND MASSAGE
Cindy our certified massage therapist and reflexologist will be offering 15 minute sessions of
either foot reflexology or table massage. She will be available on Thursday, March 12th and
Thursday, March 26th from 9:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m. The cost is $15.00.
These therapies will help facilitate healing and relieve your aches and pains.
Appointments will be taken at the Senior Office.
CHAIR YOGA—GENTLE YOGA
Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice or discipline, that aims to transform body
and mind. The current sessions for both classes will run through March 19th. A new six
week session will begin on April 2nd. The fee for Chair Yoga which meets at 12:15 p.m.
will be $30.00 and the fee for Gentle Yoga which meets at 1:30 p.m. is $48.00.
Jasmin, our instructor, teaches you to enhance body and breathing awareness and helps
you develop a state of mental calm. Registrations are taken at the Main Office.

The new Breakaway Gaming Centre in now open, bringing a whole new way to play BingoElectric Bingo! Enjoy 2 sessions of bingo and lunch before heading to Caesars Windsor with

souvenir upon departure. This trip is going to Canada and proof of citizenship is required.

Herzliche Willkommen!! Join us as we experience a bit of German heritage! The highlights
of this “wunderbar” trip include: round trip transportation, a guided tour of St. Joseph’s
Church, a traditional lunch and German sing-a-long at the Dakota Inn Rathskeller, you will

Dr. Farrar is scheduled to be here on Friday, March 6th from 9:30 a.m.—11:00 a.m.
Dr. Somers is scheduled to be here on Wednesday, April 22nd from
1:00 p.m.—3:00 p.m. Please remember to bring a towel with you if you schedule an
appointment with Dr. Somers. Both doctors are available to assist our seniors with their foot
care needs. Appointments should be made in advance at the Senior Office.
BLOOD PRESSURE TESTING
On Monday, March 23rd from 10:30 a.m.—12:00 p.m. a representative from
New Century Home Health Care, Inc. will be here to offer blood pressure testing.

“FREE” CHIROPRACTIC CARE LUNCH & LEARN SEMINAR
Date: Thursday, March 26, 2015

Location: Senior Center
Dr. Franklin Norton, from Blendl Chiropractic Life Center, will be here at the Center to talk
to us about the benefits of Chiropractic Care. This is a form of alternative medicine that
emphasizes diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the
musculoskeletal system. The main chiropractic treatment technique involves manual therapy,
especially manipulation of the spine, other joints, and soft tissues: treatment may also
include exercises and health and lifestyle counseling. This informative program will include
lunch for all who attend. If you would like to participate, please contact the Senior Office.
MACKINAC ISLAND TRIP SPONSORED BY N.E.R.P.A.
Date: October 26-29, 2015 (Monday-Thursday)
Cost: $720 per person/double occupancy (includes bus service).
The members of the Northeast Recreation & Park Association invite individuals 50 or better
to “A Grand Experience at the Grand Hotel” on Mackinac Island. This all inclusive trip
includes roundtrip motor coach transportation, three nights lodging, ferry tickets, ten meals,
cocktail reception, nightly dancing, tours, unlimited golf, and a wide variety of unique

DAILY HAPPENINGS
MORNING MILE: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:00 a.m.—9:30 a.m. It takes just a
half hour to complete 2 miles and you are energized for the day.
So join us to “Walk Away the Pounds” with the Leslie Sansone DVD.
DINING SENIOR STYLE: The Senior Nutrition Program has two locations in our area to
serve you. They are here in the Activity Center and at the Eastpointe Community Center
located at 16435 East Eight Mile Road in Eastpointe. The MCCSA offers warm and
delicious lunches which are served Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m.
A suggested cost-share donation is $3.00.
CARDS: All are welcome to drop in each and every day to play cards in the Senior Room.
We are always in need of extra players on Tuesdays and Fridays, especially if you play Euchre.
Why not stop by and give it a try?
OPEN COMPUTERS: Three computers with Internet access and a printer are available in
our Senior Room for your convenience.
BILLIARDS ROOM: Offered at Snookers until the expansion is complete. In order to
stay within our budget, you will only be allowed to shoot pool on Mondays, Wednesdays, and
Fridays from 11:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. Snookers Pool & Pub is located at 21901 Kelly Road,
Eastpointe. Please stop by the Senior Center for your updated “FREE” pass.
Please be sure to sign in each time you go to Snookers.

PRAYING HANDS: Meets on the first Monday of every month from 8:30 a.m.—2:00 p.m.
HI-STEPS: Meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30 a.m.—10:30 a.m.
ROSEVILLE SENIORS CLUB: Meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at
11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 24800 Phlox Avenue, Eastpointe, MI 48021.
