and Kashmir Chief Minister
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed
today said that the verdict of
the people in the Assembly
elections is a great opportunity to connect and further
gel the three distinct regions
of J&K State.
"There will be no digging of the past and the initiatives taken between 2002
and 2005 will move forward
to firmly put the State on the
development map of the
country," Sayeed said while
chairing his maiden meeting
of
Administrative
Secretaries after assuming
office here.
He said that the
Government will soon make
guidelines to make Heads of
the Departments accountable and responsible so that
they perform to the best of
their ability.
Describing the people's
mandate as a historic opportunity, the Chief Minister
said that the Government

Govt to buy additional
power for Valley

Mohammad Sayeed today asked the official
machinery to bring down the curtailment and
power cuts in the Kashmir Valley.
The Chief Minister here chaired a meeting on the current power situation in the Valley and instructed that
efforts should be made to reduce power curtailment
and cuts in all parts of the Valley, especially during the
current winter months.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh, who holds
the charge of Power portfolio, also attended the meeting. It was also decided that the Government will purchase an additional 60 MW and supply it to the Valley

Traffic partially restored on
Jammu-Srinagar NH
SRINAGAR, MAR 6:
Traffic was restored partially on the national highway,
connecting Kashmir valley
with the rest of the country,
after remaining suspended
for five days due to landslides.
However, only vehicles,
which were stranded at different places along the
national highway, were
allowed to move towards
Kashmir.
'We allowed vehicles,
including those carrying
passengers, which were
stranded at different places
on the 300-km-long highway," official sources said.
Earlier in the afternoon
the Highway, remained
closed for the fourth consecutive day today following landslides triggered by
heavy rain in the area.

closed for traffic and the
road is being cleared of the
debris due to the landslides
at some places," a Traffic

president Amit Shah today
had a meeting with the RSS
top brass here, seen as significant against the backdrop of the party's alliance
with PDP in Jammu and
Kashmir

Minister Mufti Mohammad
Sayeed's statement giving
credit to Pakistan and separatists for the peaceful polls
there.
The meeting between
Shah and RSS chief Mohan
Bhagwat and general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi at the
organisation's headquarters
in Mahal area here lasted
over eight hours.
The meeting was also
significant as the RSS's
Pratinidhi Sabha, its highest decision-making body,
is to meet here in the third
week of this month.
Though Shah did not
speak to reporters, RSS
sources said the common
minimum program of PDPBJP alliance; Sayeed's controversial statement, the
position on Article 370, and
the land bill were discussed

SRINAGAR, MAR 6: One
more person died of swine
flu in Kashmir Valley today
taking the death toll to eight
and 14 new patients have
tested positive for the virus,
health officials said here
today.
"One more patient
infected with swine flu
virus has died taking the
death toll to eight.
However, the patient had
multiple co-morbidities as
well and may have died of
those ailments," Sher-iKashmir
Institute
of
Medical
Sciences
(SKIMS)'s spokesperson
Kulsoom Bhat said here.
She said the number of
patients infected with the
virus has risen to 291 as 14
new cases had surfaced during the last 24 hours.
"14 more patients have
tested positive for the virus
during the last 24 hours.
The total number of infected is now 291," she said.
The official said six
fresh samples were taken
today for testing from 80
patients who were at the
special OPD of the hospital.

today fresh 15 blood samples
have been sent to the laboratory in New Delhi.
However, one death was
also reported due to suspected swine flu in Rajouri district
but the authorities have not
yet confirmed about it.

booked an Income Tax lawyer
and his wife for fraud and
preparing forged documents
causing loss to his clients.
Crime Branch team has registered an FIR against an Income
Tax Lawyer Rajesh Verma and
his wife Sangeeta Verma, residents of Trikuta Nagar for
preparing fake documents and
causing huge loss to his client,
official spokesman here said.
He said that one Pardeep
Kumar Puri, resident of Gandhi
Nagar lodged a complaint
alleging that his father had purchased a house for an amount
of R 20 lakh but no formal sale
deed was executed and only
agreement to sell was prepared
on the advice of the income tax
lawyer, who was by his father.
The house was thereafter rented out but the accused substituted the original rent deed with
a fake and fraudulent one, prepared in the name of his wife
and received the rent from the
tenants and thereafter paid the

Holi was celebrated at
many parts of the country
with gaiety and fervour
today, while rain played
spoilsport in Jammu, where
people preferred to stay
indoors rather than celebrating the festival of
colours.

greeted people of the country on the occasion of Holi.
In his message on the
eve of Holi, the President

colours promote oneness
and harmony as well as
