Your presence is urged at our April 4 Membership Meeting to gather
nominations for Board and officer vacancies; elections on June 20.
“Come On IN! The Water’s Fine.”
This is how Donna Watts-Lamont, AOTB Vice-President and chair of the Nominations &
Elections Committee, invites you to join your dedicated fellow neighbors in making our
community an even better place to live. She continues:
“In June the membership will elect four members to our Board and all four
officers: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
Of course we’re all busy with our lives, but the work done by Board
members and officers is so essential that you will surely want to be a part of it.
Moreover, there’s joy and comradery in the work we do at our meetings –
held once a month, usually at the Hillsmere Library; and since the Library
closes at 9 p.m., those meetings can’t drag on forever.
If you are interested in making this association work, let me know – by
email at [email protected]. Along with your name, address, email
address, and the position you’d like to hold, please provide a short bio to be
disseminated to the voters in the May issue of The PIER.
I look forward to hearing from many, really many, of you.”

It works this way: President, Treasurer, and Board members are elected for two-year
terms starting July 1, 2015; the President and Board members may be re-elected, but are
limited to four consecutive years before yielding their posts; the Treasurer can be re-elected
for an indefinite number of two-year terms. The Vice President and Secretary are elected every
year, and can be re-elected at the pleasure of the membership.
Look for brief biographies of candidates in the May issue of your newsletter. All full
members (property owners) will receive ballots through the mail in time to cast their vote
before (or at) the June 20 Membership meeting in the Main Library on West Street.
Service IS a Pleasure. President Delia puts it his own way:
It’s time again for our intrepid Nominations and Elections Committee to troll for volunteer
candidates to do all the stuff that history has proven won’t do itself. Chairperson Donna WattsLamont will be canvassing for four of our seven board members and all four officer positions.
Somehow she doesn’t expect to be stampeded by a herd of volunteers, and that’s just too
bad. Many of you claim, and rightly so, that you don’t have the time, but who ever does?
Others say the jobs are too demanding – and admittedly, pieces of cake they have not always
been. It may not seem terribly original but I say, If not us, who? if not now, when?
As a result of your righteous concerns, and in an effort to encourage all of our busy neighbors
to volunteer for these positions, we have been attempting to streamline, make the jobs more
doable, by offsetting some of the tasks.
• For example, our current Treasurer (and financial savior), Sheila Keating, can’t always make the meetings, but is more than willing to do most of the at-­‐-­‐-­‐home bookkeeping chores, such as check-­‐-­‐-­‐writing and invoice presentation. So we’re asking another loyal volunteer, Roxanne Veal, to run for the position of Treasurer and take on the coordination and presentation tasks – and the meetings. Fortunately, Roxanne is no stranger to finances, being a Maryland State worker in that very department. • To ease the burden with another pair of hands, we intend to institute a new, appointed position of Bookkeeper. • Similarly, our Secretary is usually charged with a whole flock of duties, so we’ve lightened her load by parceling some of them out among ourselves, allowing the primary task – minutes-­‐-­‐-­‐taking at Board and Membership meetings – to enjoy Pam Duncan’s priority. • Likewise with our committees. Sheri Reno’s daunting task of directory revision was made more doable with the professional assistance of Elvia (our Webmistress) Thompson. The constitutional review and map revision, in the past a part of the directory process, has been offset to Mike Lord and others. Results will appear shortly. Donna (our esteemed VP) makes my own sinecure of a job more doable by covering for me when I’m off galavanting to wherever. Please remember, The Lone Ranger was just an old TV show and nobody operates that way in
AOTB anymore. We’re all in this together, so please volunteer; you won’t be alone!
SAVE THESE DATES, SUMMON YOUR ENERGY 3 Mid-­‐March. Not that Madness, but The Property Owners Association AOTB Directory. Thanks to neighbor Sheri Reno, Web Guru Elvia Thompson, and a dedicated squad, the new Directory contains updated residential data, an alphabetized list of property owners, and a host of advertisers to patronize. These assets are going online as we speak (so to speak); printed copies will follow shortly. Saturday, April 25. The Second Annual AOTB 5k Run. Entry fee $20 per runner; training program to be offered in advance; entertainment by a DJ on the beach; more information (e.g., start time) to come. Sunday, June 14, 4 to 7 p.m. Annual AOTB Wine & Jazz Fest on the Community Beach. Adults only (the AOTB family picnic comes in August). Various vintages to taste and buy, good food, exhilarating music to dance to, prizes, even beer for wine-­‐avoiders. Watch for subsequent announcements. TBA. AOTB’s First-­‐Ever Kayak Rack to be installed at a waterfront site and under conditions to be communicated in good time. Effective planning by neighbors Ed and Kathy Conaway was approved by the Board on January 13. When Snow/Ice Subside. Community Road Repair, projected by our indefatigable neighbor Alan Hinman, includes re-­‐surfacing of Saratoga north of Myrtle, pothole patching on Chestnut between Rockway and Newport and on Narragansett south of Magnolia, pothole repair and re-­‐grading of Magnolia west of Rockway. Coming, Coming! The History of AOTB nears publication. Six chapters spanning some 250 pages will contain nothing but facts and good stories, abundant photographs (some in color), and a Foreword by neighbor Kurt Schmoke. Neighbor Bob Meissner has undertaken an elaborate editing assignment for the intrepid volunteer historian team under chair neighbor Marc Apter. April First: Culprits Beware! Hugo’s Paw-­‐Print Sniffology. Our faithful snoop reporter, French bulldog Hugo, has been following the evolution of new technology that will allow him and other scensitive recruits to identify deposits left uncollected on community surfaces in violation of the law.
