Willis Trophy Rules and Regulations
1.
Age Limit:
Year 9 pupils only.
(No Year 7 or 8 pupils are allowed to play up an age)

Pitch:
22 yards.
3.
Ball:
5 ½ oz.





In all matches up to the final the home team provides a new ball.
The same ball shall be used for both innings of the match.
In the Final a new ball shall be used for each innings.
In the Final the balls will be provided by the Association, along with neutral umpires
Length of Games:
 All games will be 20 overs per side including the final
 Each side must face 5 overs to constitute a match
 One hour and 20 minutes will be allowed to bowl 20 overs
 10 minutes allowed between innings

Bowlers:
 The maximum number of overs per bowler shall be that which ensures the need for 5
bowlers i.e. 4 maximum in a 20 over match.

It is the home team responsibility to arrange the match date
They must offer a choice of at least three dates for their opponents to choose.
Please confirm matches by e-mail. This will help in matches where there are disputes
However, it is recommended that the away team is proactive if they have not been
contacted by the home team.
Results
 The side which scores the most runs shall be the winner.
 If the scores are level, the side which has lost the least wickets shall be the
winner.
 If the scores continue level, the winner shall be the side, in order:(a)
(b)

which has the higher score over the first 10 overs of the innings
which loses the least number of wickets in the first 10 overs of the innings
If the scores are still level a bowl out will be organised or at the last resort the
captains will toss a coin to decide the winner.

If rain curtails a match, the winner shall be the side scoring most runs in the first 10
overs of the innings, or 9, 8, 7, 6 down to 5.
In the event of no decision being reached in a match because of inclement weather,
inability to arrange or rearrange a fixture before a deadline, or any other reason, then
the result will be decided by a bowl-out, in the event of none of the above being
possible then the result will be decided by the toss of a coin.
It is the responsibility of the winning team to notify the result to the competition
organiser. Please notify within 48 hours of the match taking place. This will allow
competition organisers to inform next opponents and keep the WSCA website up to
date
Disputes


If there is a problem with a fixture / match it is the responsibility of both schools to
notify the competition organiser of this. Please keep e-mail records of all fixture
arrangements in case of a dispute.
A school will forfeit the match if a Year 7 or Year 8 pupil is found to have played for
their school Year 9 cricket team in this competition.
11.
ECB Regulations

Helmets for batting and the wicket keeping standing up are compulsory in all BSCA
fixtures. ECB close fielding and bowling directives also apply in all games.
12.
Quality of Pitches

With the falling standards in the quality of many school pitches would colleagues give
much consideration as to where games are played, i.e. offering to forego 'home'
advantage if a club pitches is available.
