The History of Painted Screens

It began in the summer of 1913 when the corner grocer at Collington and Ashland in Northeast
Baltimore was the first person to introduce colorful scenes on woven wire. Join author Elaine Eff of
“The Painted Screens of Baltimore” as she discusses this unique and magnificent art form.

Maryland Society of Sight will offer two screenings, Visual Acuity test to check visual clarity and
extended distance, and visual field screening for glaucomatous and peripheral field visual loss. Your
eyesight is a precious gift. Protect it! Appointments may be made at the front desk.

Dorothy McCoach will discuss the church vestments of the 14th to the 18th century, reviewing “opus
Anglicanum” and then proceeds to a fashion show of women’s dress from the ancient Greeks to
Fortuny fashions of the 20th century.

Fitness Center Days and Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday - 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Fitness Center will be closed if there is no monitor available to supervise the room.
Applications available in staff office.
Cost: $100.00 yearly or payable in 4 installments.
Personal training is available at various rates depending on your needs. See brochure for details.
Make sure you thank the volunteer monitors for their service. This makes the new rates and longer hours
possible. New classes for volunteer monitors are forming now. Sign up in office.

Valid Membership Cards
It is the policy of the Baltimore County Department of Aging that all eligible
individuals must complete an annual registration/ intake form in order to
participate in a Senior Center. Upon completion of this form, a valid lavender
membership card for the year 2014-2015 will be issued. For the safety of all
members, as well as yourself, it is important that the membership card be shown at
all times when entering the building.
The Book Club
The Book Club meets on the second Monday of each month at the
Cockeysville Senior Center from 9:30 -10:30 am. Come join us!

The mission of the Cockeysville Senior Center is to develop partnerships, programs, and activities
that support the senior citizens of our community in their effort to remain healthy, active, and independent
members of the community, and to provide, coordinate and advocate for services which ensure the highest
quality of life for both active and health impaired seniors.

What’s new in 2015? Community Resources...BCDA’s newly published resource directly filled with
valuable information for living life to the fullest. For the second year, Baltimore County and Baltimore
City Governments have partnered to combine resources, business listings and non-profits in order to create
one regional publication for Baltimore communities. This revised publication has been expanded in
distribution and scope with the most current resources for older adults, baby boomers, caregivers, families,
adults with disabilities and professionals. Learn about the latest programs and services available in both
Baltimore County and City.
