Homeless services event at point-in-time count and
biometrics check-in enhances delivery of homeless services
Problem:
Finding methods to improve access
to housing and enhance efficiencies
of the homeless delivery system with
minimal or no additional funding.
Goals of program:
To end homelessness among veterans
and persons who are chronically
homeless by the end of 2016.
Benefits:
• Improved data collection and
reporting.
• Faster and more cost-effective.
• Coordinated outreach to locate
and connect persons experiencing
homelessness to housing and
needed services.
• Reduction in the number of
homeless individuals.
Features of program:
• Extensive collaboration among 70
community partners. Incorporating
a Project Homeless type service
event into a mandated Continuum
of Care annual Point-In-Time count.
• Use of technology to provide
real time information in a cost
effective manner while increasing
accuracy.
Critical Success Strategies:
• Built relationship with Wichita
State University College of
Health Professions and local
businesses.
• Incorporated annual Veteran’s
Administration Stand Down event
into the annual Point-In-Time
count.
• Implementation of a biometric
scanning system to allow
real-time data entry into the
HMIS (Homeless Management
Information System); providing
program efficiencies and
connectivity to services.
Results of program:
• Faster, timely and accurate
data recorded into HMIS from
“Front Door” homeless service
providers.
