Hello!
My name is Olivia Raasch. I am currently a
student at the University of Wisconsin –
Oshkosh, pursuing a degree in English.
After spending eleven years as a 4-H
member in the Jackson Explorers 4-H Club
in Washington County, I am glad to
continue my 4-H experience as part of the
staff. I am excited to work with all the
youth and families involved in Dodge
County 4-H, and I hope this year to not only
encourage 4-H members to become
involved in various activities, but to also
help everyone make the most of every
opportunity offered. I’m incredibly excited
for this summer and all the adventures that
are in store!
Thanks,
Olivia Raasch
4-H Summer Agent
Hello Dodge County 4-H,
My name is Dustin Winkelman. I am going
to be a junior at the University of Wisconsin
- Madison. I am studying Dairy Science and
working towards earning a certificate in agbusiness management. I am from
Watertown and was a 4-H member in
Jefferson County for 13 years. Currently in
Jefferson County I am serving on the Meat
Animal Project Committee as the adult FFA
representative and as an adult leader for the
Concord Center Clovers 4-H Club. I have a
strong dedication for 4-H and I am excited
to learn more about the Dodge County 4-H
program. My goal this summer as the
Youth Dairy and Livestock Summer Agent
is to give back to an organization that has
taught me various skills and to share my
experiences with 4-H members so that they
may also learn from them. I am excited for
the opportunity to get to work with Dodge
County members, adults, and community
leaders. I look forward for meeting you all!

Using the 4-H Name & Emblem
Did You Know? The 4-H Name & Emblem is a highly valued mark within our
country’s history. As such, it was granted a very unique and special status; it is
in a category similar to the Presidential
Seal and the Olympic Emblem. This
federal protection makes it a mark into
and of itself with protection that supercedes the limited authorities of both a trademark and a copyright. As a result, responsibility and stewardship for the 4-H
Name & Emblem were not given to the U.S. Patent Office but
were given to a higher level of the federal government, a member of the Cabinet, the Secretary of Agriculture. The Secretary
has responsibility for the 4-H Name and Emblem, at the direct
request of Congress. The “18 USC 707” is the statement in the
United States Code that outlines the protection of the 4-H Name
& Emblem.
The official emblem is a clover with four leaves and an “H” on
each leaf. The clover’s stem must point to the right as you look
at the image. The 4-H Emblem is not a plain four-leaf clover.
The 4-H Emblem should appear in specific colors and in its
entirety. The 4-H Name and Emblem belong to the 4-H Youth
Development Program, under the authority of USDA, and anyone wishing to use it must obtain permission. If you are a 4-H
member or volunteer, you are permitted to use the emblem. For
detailed information on using the 4-H Emblem contact the Extension Office at (920) 386-3790 or go to: http://www.national4Hheadquarters.gov.
Co-Branded Logo
UW-Extension has released new guidelines for branding and
logo use, including new guidelines for co-branding the UWExtension logo and the 4-H Clover. The clover should always
appear with the UW-Extension logo on all printed materials,
including banners, displays and clothing.
There are two versions of the co-branded logo available at:
http://blogs.ces.uwex.edu/4hmarketing/
These versions are great for posters, newsletters, banners, and
other printed material.
Dodge County 4-H Endowment Fund Grants
Dodge County 4-H Clubs, County Committees or Groups can
apply for grants from the Dodge County 4-H Endowment Fund
Committee. Earned interest from the fund is used for these
grants. Deadlines are January 31and June 30. The application

Giving to the Dodge County 4-H
Endowment Fund
Donations and memorials to the Endowment Fund are always
welcome. Supporting the Endowment Fund today helps the 4-H
youth of Dodge County for years to come.

“In Honor” donations to recognize birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and other significant achievements. Donations are
welcomed from business friends and alumni, civic organizations, and 4-H clubs. All contributions are tax deductible .

Poultry Activity Card for the Small Animal Auction
The discussion began last year that Poultry project would need
to change the activity sheet that determines eligibility to sell
poultry at the Small Animal Auction at the county fair. The old
sheet contained two groups of activities with exhibitors needing
some from each group. With the state ban on poultry shows and
swaps as well as not having Trivia Night for the small animal
building, all activities were eliminated from one group.
Leaders met before the September meeting to create the new
sheet and it was discussed at the September and October
meetings. The new activity sheet does not have groups but
rather points awarded to activities.
In order to sell in the Small Animal Auction, Poultry project
members in 4th-7th grade need 7 points and 8th graders and up
need 9 points. We will still have the sheet to attend 2 county
poultry meetings, which is required by all 4-H and FFA
members to exhibit at the fair.
Various activities (in addition to the 2 required county project
meetings) are listed on the Poultry Activity Card.
Cards can be obtained from your county Poultry leader or visit
the Dodge County UW-Extension website under “Dodge
County Junior Fair>>Rules, Regulations and Forms>>>Poultry

COOL FORM UPDATES
ATTENTION BEEF & SWINE PROJECTS!
COOL (Country of Origin Labeling) has been
rescinded by Congress and USDA for beef and pork products. Thus as we enter this project year for the 2016 fair
season, NO COOL forms will need to be collected from
the BEEF or SWINE exhibitors.
ATTENTION SHEEP & GOAT PROJECTS!
SHEEP and GOAT COOL forms ARE STILL REQUIRED as they were not a part of this legislation.
Beef Fitting Contest & Sheep Fitting Contest
At the 2016 Dodge County Fair, two contests will give youth
opportunities to demonstrate animal project growth and to
compete for prizes.
These contests are TUESDAY, AUG. 16th at 8:00 pm.
At this time, the MAS Committee is seeking
sponsors for prizes/awards and encouraging
livestock youth to begin practicing their
“fitting” skills!! Read your newsletter for
more upcoming information.
Members of the Goat and Sheep projects as you start preparing
to purchase project animals for the next year, please remember
to fill out the COOL affidavit recording information about the
seller/breeder of your project animal.
MAS DONATION REQUEST
This affidavit is an important part of the Country of Origin
Labeling Program (COOL). Please fill out this affidavit as
completely as possible and keep it in your files for two years.
If it is not possible to go back and get the seller’s signature,
please attach the bill of sale to the affidavit. Retention of this
affidavit is imperative to the audit process the USDA can perform on any animal that is USDA inspected.
Please consider donating to the Meat Animal Auction in these
ways:
1.Soda & water for the Pre-Auction meal & during the auction.
2.Milk for the Pre-Auction meal.
3.Cash to help cover the expense of the meal potential bidders/
buyers (please consider asking businesses your family
frequents for possible cash donations).
The affidavit and a fact sheet on the COOL program is
available online at: http://dodge.uwex.edu/files/2010/06/
exhibitorcoolsheet.pdf. Any questions or to request a copy of
the affidavit, please contact the UW-Extension Office 920386-3790.
Contributors will be recognized on our donor posters and they
may hang a banner during the auction.
Contact Bonnie at UW-Extension with questions (8am-2:30pm
Mon-Wed) or Ralph Pahl at 920-210-0006.
MAS Project Member Activity Card
(Orange Card)
There has been some confusion regarding the educational
points required by the MAS committee for the education point
card. “4” points are required and can be obtained by attending
educational livestock events. AT LEAST 2 of the points need
to be gotten at a county or state educational event. For some
youth who have no means to have “local club” learning events,
it is always possible to have all 4 or more points obtained from
county or state events.
If an “out of county” event is where a point will be obtained,
use the back of the card to explain the event AND obtain a
signature that can be identified so a call may be given if the
committee has questions.
No educational event may give a youth more than 1
educational points (even if other county’s youth obtain 2+
points for such an event).
Youth attending college may obtain a point for agricultural
events attended by speaking with Bonnie and obtaining MAS
committee approval.
MEAT ANIMAL PRE-SALE MEETING

ATTENTION DAIRY YOUTH PROJECT MEMBERS
GET YOUR EDUCATIONAL CARD!
The Dairy Youth Advisory Committee has created an educational card to encourage Dairy project members in their quest
to improve dairy knowledge and skills. Download your copy of
this card from http://dodge.uwex.edu/agr icultur e/youthdairy-livestock/ and go to the Dairy page.
Completing the requirements will qualify dairy youth for exhibiting at the Wisconsin State Fair AND for being eligible to
qualify for Dairy Recognition Auction lots.
The intention for creating new card is to encourage more Dairy
youth project members to participate and advance their learning at the many opportunities which have been created by willing volunteers.
Little Britches is open to youth 4K thr ough 4th gr ade who
wish to bring and show a dairy breed calf (May or June
birthdate) on Sunday of fair week. Because it is all about
DAIRY, the Dairy committee requires white/khaki show pants
and NO hats for showing.
Junior Britches is a mor e focused showmanship exper ience
in front of our dairy judge held late Friday morning of the Fair
for youth entering 3rd or 4th grade. The clothing requirements
are also white/khaki pants and no hats. Dairy breed calves already at the Fair will be used. We encourage youth interested
in this contest to call our office ahead of fair week so we can
coordinate use of a dairy calf and experience work with that
calf prior to fair week.
Please note: Little Br itches and J unior Br itches ar e not
contests designed for Beef breeds.

Join the Dodge County 4-H Dairy Judging Team!
What is dairy judging?
Dairy judging is a team competition, based on evaluating the physical confirmation of dairy cows. A class
of 4 cows or heifers is placed in order of their physical confirmation of Udder, Dairy Strength, Rear Feet
and Legs, and Frame using the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association (PDCA) Uniform Scorecard. Junior
contestants also complete Type Analysis Questions (TAQs) which ask about particular traits for different
animals. Senior contestants give a set of oral reasons, which defend one’s placing of a class. Classes are
judged in 12 minutes (placing only) or 15 minutes (reasons and TAQ’s).
Dairy judging builds your confidence, teaches you more about functional traits in dairy cattle and helps you
learn more about making decisions. Most importantly though, you build life-long friendships and have fun
with your fellow teammates! No experience is necessary!
Who can compete?
Any youth who is enrolled in the Dodge County 4-H Program.
Juniors: Celebrate 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, or 14th birthday during the competition year
Seniors: Celebrate 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, or 19th birthday during the competition year
What happens at a typical practice?
Each week during the spring, on Thursday nights at 7:00 pm, we have a practice at a local dairy farm
throughout the county. During practice, you can expect to judge 3 classes and complete TAQs as juniors
and give reasons as seniors. We give feedback and go through classes together as a team in front of the
cows to get the most opportunity to learn.
How do I join the Dodge County 4-H Dairy Judging Team?
Joining is easy – come to the practices! Practices are mandatory, so each team member can improve their
skills to the best of their ability and work and learn together as a team. Of course, if you have a conflict,
contact any of the coaches.

We need 2 or 3 volunteers per shift.
Younger members are encouraged to help
but a parent or leader must sign with
them. Although helping the customer
‘‘fish’’ is a simple job someone must be
able to make change so keep this in mind
when volunteering. Anyone younger than
6th grade needs an adult supervising.
