otherdatamustbetrackedlocallyandprovidedbyeachconsortium.
Locallygathereddataincludedetailedinformationaboutpathwayprogram
characteristics,studentparticipants(cohorts),andvariousothermetrics.Toensurethe
datasubmittedareascomprehensiveandaccurateaspossible,itisrecommendedthat
granteescoordinatewiththeirparticipatinginstitutionstoplantheirdatacollection

Alllocallycollectedmetricsrequiredocumentinginformationonindividualstudents
whoachievedtheoutcomedescribedbythemetric.ForK‐12institutions,oneapproach
istocreatea“shadowcourse”inexistinggradingsystems.Forcommunitycolleges,
informationonstudentactivitiescanbegatheredbyflaggingcoursesthatincludethe
outcomemetrics,suchasapprenticeshiporthird‐partycredentials.However,
institutionsshouldcheckwiththeirdatasystemadministratorstounderstandallthe
potentialrisksbeforeimplementingthesestrategies.
K‐12ActivityTracking:EstablishingaShadowCourse
Regardlessofprovider,allstudentinformationsystemshaveamethodtodothe
following:createcourses,createsectionsofthecourse,assignstudentstosectionsof
thecourse,givegradestothestudentsinthecourseandassignseveralcomments
relativetothestudents’performanceinthecourse.Mostsystemshavetheabilityto
establishcoursessuchthattheydonotimpactstudents’creditstatus,gradepoint
average,attendanceortranscript.
1. Createanon‐credit,non‐attendancecourse.Mostlikely,thiscoursemayhaveto
benon‐gradedalsotoavoidappearingonstudentreportcardsandtranscripts
