eAgrisarathi: An IT driven personalized Agri-facilitator for better farming P. Krishna Reddy • Background Farming is an unsustainable profession; 27% farmers dissatisfied with farm livelihoods - not profitable; 40% are ready quit farming Objective of eAgrisarathi • To provide knowledge base that can be applied by the farmers to improve their farm productivity by exploiting the latest developments in agriculture through information & communication technologies (ICTs) VISION: To improve the productivity of small farm holdings in a sustainable manner The eAgrisarathi as an IT driven personalized Agri-facilitator for better farming as an improvement to the eSagu system in terms of scalability, cost and additional features like community discussion and self-learning at village level aims for agroadvisory reach to vast geographical areas of farming at appreciably low cost FACTORS oNo quality/insufficient seed oWater resource in violability or mismanagement oRising input costs (Fertilizer, Labour, etc.) oIncreased machinery costs oUnavailability of power oFarm labor unavailability oUnscientific and Unsustainable practices oExcess chemical usage oMarketing problems OUR EFFORT oThe Right & Timely Knowledge is provided to the farmer and also to other agrarian stakeholders Areas of Crop Advisory oCrop Production, Crop Management, Crop Protection The village-level agri-facilitator model description •Procuring the infrastructure and identification of human resources •Identification of villages, sample farms, farmer/farm registration •Once in ten days, the following steps are repeated o Collecting farm observations and upload into web portal o Advice delivery for all farm observation by subject matter specialist o Preparation of crop-specific advice summaries by agriculture experts o Advice dissemination o Access of agro-advisories by farmers o Notice-board/SMS/Internet: One time advice/Regular advice Cluster is 4 to 5 villages in similar farming situation Five sample farms for each major crop: 30 farms Agricultural advice to sample farms regularly Display crop-specific summaries (photographs, problem and advice) on the notice-boards Farmer compares the problem, follow advice If it is not clear, he/she can consult coordinator for farm-specific advice Architecture Benefits to the farmer/producer Quality personalized agro-advice Regular advice Query-less system Feedback based Scalable system Cost-effective system Can be made as self-sustainable eAgrisarathi as the crop doctor for farms IT for Agriculture Research Center International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad Provides farm database Proactive approach Improves capacitates in rural livelihoods and generates rural employment Notice board: Is the key display shall act as the village face book for agri-information exchange Contact Email: [email protected] Mobile: 98493 29324
