Job Summary:
The Land Administrator – Habitat, Wildlife and Access performs a broad range of land and
water management duties including planning, promotional, educational and enforcement tasks,
with emphasis on habitat development, wildlife (flora and fauna) monitoring and access
management.
This position works closely with the Corporate Relations Advisor, the Land Administrator –
Assessment, Water and Lands, the Land Administrator - Grazing and external organizations
and agencies.
The Land Administrator – Habitat, Wildlife and Access backs up the Land Administrator –
Assessment, Water and Lands and the Land Administrator - Grazing, when required.
Key Responsibilities:
Land, Water and Access Management




Administer and enforce the EID’s land access, use and occupancy policies, related
standards and agreements (including a wide variety of short and longer term
agreements, as assigned). This task involves interaction with a broad range of
individuals, agencies and groups such as but not limited to: researchers, scientists,
environmentalists, consultants, government employees, schools, non-profit groups,
hunters, fishermen, outdoor enthusiasts, land owners and the general public.
Monitor uses of and activities on EID lands and water bodies for compliance with EID
policies, standards and agreements. Undertake enforcement action, as required, in
accordance with approved procedures.
Work with the Land Supervisor to create and maintain a database of oil and gas leases
and infrastructure. Inspect oil and gas locations and activities for compliance and
undertake enforcement action, as required, in accordance with approved procedures.
Assists Land Administrator – Grazing and the Land Administrator – Assessment, Water
and Lands with compliance monitoring, enforcement, administrative duties, etc as
required.

Monitor, assess and compile statistics and locational database (via internal sources such
as surveys and counts and from reputable external sources) on the health and diversity
of wildlife and vegetation (flora and fauna) on EID land and in waterbodies, as assigned.
Take an active role in the invasive species monitoring, prevention, public education,
detection and response initiatives, as assigned.
Administer the Ducks Unlimited Canada wetlands agreement including coordination of
water management, operating wetlands as assigned, liaison between the EID and DUC,
maintenance and reporting.
Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with enforcement agencies such as
RCMP, Community Peace Officers, Fish & Wildlife Officers, Provincial Parks
Conservation Officers, etc. Administer the Community Peace Officer contract including
communicating the EID’s priorities and concerns.
In consultation with the Corporate Relations Advisor, administer and maintain the EID’s
inventory of signage. Administer and enforce the EID’s Signage policy.
Administer the corporate muskrat and beaver permits and reports.
Evaluate and make recommendations for changes / improvements to programs, policies,
standards, agreements and other documents pertinent to this area of responsibility.
Partners in Habitat Development


Plan and manage the Partners in Habitat Development (PHD) program including
administrative and supervision responsibilities; selection of tree and shrub species;
selection, design, preparation and maintenance of planting sites; preparation,
submission and presentation of grant applications and other fund raising requests /
proposals (financial and in-kind); and preparation of annual and other reports.
Evaluate this program and make recommendations for changes / improvements.
Public Relations and Education

Public relations tasks and activities will be undertaken with direction from the Corporate
Relations Advisor and will reflect and support corporate priorities, branding and
messaging which includes promoting the EID’s multi-use philosophy in land and water
management, social responsibility, communicating with government and nongovernment departments, agencies and individuals with respect to access, wildlife,
habitat or environmental issues of interest to or affecting the EID, making presentations,
conducting tours, participating in trade shows and other venues, and preparing
brochures, advertisements and notices.

As a supervisor with direct reports, participate in the recruitment and selection process,
conduct new employee onboarding / orientation, train, coach, performance manage,
participate in the progressive disciplinary process up to and including terminations,
participate in employees’ career development, and actively participate in other
corporate-endorsed human resource management processes and procedures.
Establish annual and longer range goals and plans for area of responsibility that are
consistent with approved corporate and departmental priorities.
Ensure the efficient operation of projects, programs and services within area of
responsibility.
Maintain up-to-date procedure manuals for all assigned responsibilities.
Ensure complete and accurate records and reports, as related to this position, are
created, maintained and safeguarded so as to be readily accessible.
Relate to, and communicate with co-workers, customers, external agencies and the
general public, sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries
and issues promptly and professionally.
Prepare annual and longer range budget and other plans. Purchase goods and services
in accordance with approved budget and purchasing practices.
Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at regular safety meetings, being
properly trained and completing work in a safe manner.
Ensures the EID’s vehicles and other equipment are kept in proper working order, report
any problems to the mechanic.
Participates on a winter construction crew, as assigned.
Job Qualifications:








2 year diploma or degree in Environmental, Biological, Agricultural or natural sciences or
related field of study
3 to 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in a similar role
Alberta class 5 driver’s license
Knowledge of or willingness to learn and enforce land-related access and use standards
for oil and gas industry operations, and for researchers, outdoor enthusiasts, the general
public and others relative to activities on EID lands
Ability to select tree and shrub species for and to design, plant and maintain habitat
development program sites
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills combined with above average
presentation skills
Ability and willingness to work independently as well as productively and cooperatively in
a team environment
Working knowledge of or willingness to learn enforcement techniques and practices.

Ability to identify and catalogue local flora and fauna, including rare, threatened or
endangered species; species at risk; species of management concern or of special
concern; invasive and non-native species.
Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally.
Well-developed MS Word and Excel skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently to meet
deadlines.
