We agree to enter this event at our own risk. We accept that adventure racing involves
risks and will not hold event organisers, officials, sponsors or any other person involved in
the event liable for any loss or injury to equipment or person incurred during the event.
We have read and understood the event rules and will abide by the decision of the Race
Director in any and all matters. We agree that sponsors of this event may provide us with
details of future events and we allow the use of photographs to be used in the media.

At Julian’s Berry Farm, 12 Huna Road,
Whakatane. (Turn left off State Highway
30 heading into Whakatane township)
Saturday 27th June
Start Time 8:00am
TIMING
The clock will start at the beginning of
the race and will stop at the finish line.
When a team decides to stop for a rest
the clock continues. Time penalties and
credits will be added or deducted from
the finish line time.

Any legitimate protests will be viewed
by a race jury. All protests must be
filed with the race organizers within one
hour of completing the race.
DISQUALIFICATION
Prize giving will be held as soon as
possible after race finish. Venue to be
advised.
The organizers reserve the right to
impose cut-off times on sections of the
race for logistic and safety reasons at
the time. Cut-off times will be
announced at the race briefing and
noted on competitor’s instructions.
THE COMPETITION
PLACINGS AND AWARDS
WITHDRAWAL
THE COURSE
The course will be kept secret from the
competitors until race registration. The
route may be added to, modified or
cancelled at any moment by the
organisers due to bad weather or any
circumstances deemed suitable by the
race director. Competitors must follow the
course and alternatives designed by the
organisers and must comply with the spirit
of the competition. Teams will be
provided with a detailed list of
checkpoints (map references) and
transition points and will be informed as
to stage type (i.e. mountain bike, trek etc)
at the race registration.
Placing is based on finish line times
adjusted for time penalties or credits.
RACE DISCIPLINES
The race will comprise of some or all of
the following disciplines:
Mountain biking, trekking, navigation
using map and compass, and mystery
activities.
TEAM SIZE
Each team can comprise of two or four
members.

AREAS
The race will comprise of a number of
checkpoints and transitions. These include:
Transition area and manned
checkpoints - teams must check in with
race marshal.
Unmanned check points - teams
must record secret letter or number.
Failure to check in or record secret
number will result in time penalties.
Optional check points and
mystery activities will be available
to gain credits. It is strongly
recommended that teams at the rear of
the field bypass the optional checkpoints
in favour of finishing the course.

Each team member enters under their
own responsibility (those under 18 years
of age must have written consent from
their parent or guardian). They can
judge whether they should participate in
the event, start and continue to the finish
line. Nevertheless, the organizers
reserve the right to stop a competitor or
team from setting off or continuing the
event.
SUPPORT CREW
Each team should have at least one
person as support crew (unless otherwise
advised).
Unfair behaviour, use of forbidden
equipment, abandonment of a team
member, using out of bounds zones,
dropping of rubbish may result in
disqualification.
In case of withdrawal of a competitor or
the entire team, the team captain must
inform the organizers by any means
available in the shortest possible time.
Failure to do so may result in a search
and rescue operation and could lead to
financial responsibility for the team who
has not taken the necessary precautions
to provide information as to its
whereabouts.
The event management is not
responsible for teams that have
withdrawn from the event.
TEAM NUMBERS
Each team will be provided with a bib
which must be worn on the outside of all
clothing throughout the entire event.
These must be handed to the marshal at
the finish line.
INSURANCE
All participants compete at their own
risk and the organizers will not accept
liability for any personal accident or
injury during the event. A liability
waiver form has to be signed by the
team captain on behalf of the team.
Competitors should ensure that they are
adequately insured. Competitors under
18 years of age must have the waiver
signed by a parent or guardian.
SAFETY/SECURITY
Team members and assistants must
respect instructions given by officials
and must also follow their decisions
regarding health, security and safety.



To enable us to run this event we
have sought permission from a number of local land owners. It is important that we treat the land we
pass through with respect. To this
end it is required that all teams
carry out their own rubbish. Support crews should be conscious of
keeping the transition areas as they
find them.
Prizes will be allocated according to
numbers in each category.

OFFICIALS
The race will be supported by comprehensive safety back up. Radio
operators and marshals with knowledge of the course will be placed
at each transition point. These will
be coordinated by a central control
unit keeping a tab on the progress
and whereabouts of each team.
AGE LIMIT
The minimum age on race day must be
13 years or older and anyone under
the age of 18 must have written parental/guardian consent.
