Build Day Information - Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity
Build Day Information
Starting the Day
• Please arrive on time for your assigned shift and plan to stay until the end
of the work day. Build day shifts are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to allow time to park and sign in.
• We work rain or shine! Check www.fortwaynehabitat.org or our Facebook
page for delays or cancellations in the event of severe weather.
• Construction tasks are always subject to change, so we appreciate your
flexibility.
• Please call the volunteer coordinator or your team leader if you are unable
to come as scheduled. We appreciate as much notice as possible.
• Please sign in each time you work (this log is important to Habitat’s recordkeeping and is required documentation by many of our funding sources).
What to Bring
• Please bring a signed waiver form with you. Forms are available at www.
fortwaynehabitat.org/volunteer.
• Wear work boots or sneakers; open-toed shoes are not allowed on site. Rain
boots may be ideal on damp or rainy days.
• Wear clothes you don’t mind tearing or staining. Dress for the weather. We
recommend layering clothing. Bring work gloves.
• All tools needed are provided on the job site. Volunteers are welcome to
bring tool belts and hammers if they prefer. Just please remember to label
tools with your name.
• Please do not bring valuables to the job site. Habitat will not be responsible
for any lost, damaged or stolen items.
• A morning snack and lunch are provided. Please plan to provide your own
meals if you have any special dietary needs.
• Water is provided by Habitat.
Miscellaneous
• We recommend getting a tetanus shot as a safety precaution if you have
not had one recently. Adults need a booster every ten years.
• Let the site supervisor know if you have a medical condition of which he or
she should be aware, such as specific allergies, asthma, heart conditions,
etc.
• Parking is sometimes limited. Please consider carpooling with other
volunteers if possible.
• For safety reasons, children under age 16 are not allowed on site.
Volunteers ages 16 and 17 must have a waiver form signed by their legal
guardian to be on site.
