2015 Aurora Memorial Day Parade Unit Letter

Dear Parade Participant,
May 18, 2015
Thank you for participating in Aurora’s Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2015. We will be stepping off at 12:00 p.m. There
are construction projects in progress so we will need everyone’s cooperation and patience during staging as we deal with
these challenges. Please be aware that Lake Street is one lane southbound and Benton between Lake and River is closed.
The Reviewing Stand will be on Downer Place in front of the Art and History Center. Downer will be closed from Stolp Ave.
to Broadway at 8:30 a.m. to ready the Pre-Parade Program.
Staging will begin at 10:30 a.m. and run through the step off time of 12:00 p.m. Step off is at the intersection of Benton and
River Streets. Please follow the directions given to you by the Section Leaders, as we will be feeding into that intersection
from several directions.
The attached documents indicates your “Unit Color & Number”, plus staging location and suggested arrival time. Please
convey this to all persons associated with your Unit. Please note that AFTER 10:30 A.M., NO VEHICLES, OTHER
THAN THOSE THAT ARE A PART OF A UNIT, WILL BE ALLOWED PAST THE PARADE ENTRY POINT.
PARADE VEHICLES (vehicles which will be traveling the parade route) MUST ENTER the Staging Area at S. River and
Gale St. ALL Buses and Oversize Vehicles are to enter at their indicated locations.
OVERSIZE VEHICLES (BLUE SECTION) MUST ENTER at Lake St. & Downer Pl. to SOUTH on River St. for staging and
check in with the Section Leader in the BLUE section for more details upon arrival.
SCHOOL BUS PARKING ENTER at Lake St. & Downer Pl. to NORTH on River St. for PARKING along N. River. Check
in with the PURPLE Section Leader. Staging will be in the PURPLE SECTION along River as well as in the parking areas
on the West side of River.
DROP & GO DUE TO CONSTRUCTION is located at the corner of Middle Ave. & Cross Street. ENTER from Gale to
Middle Ave. and proceed to Cross. EXIT Cross to Lake St. SOUTH ONLY. You may park in this lot or the “GRAVEL LOT”
behind the Library Construction site along Middle Ave. ALL TRAFFIC MUST EXIT SOUTH!
GENERAL PARKING: Parade Participants please park in the GRAVEL LOT along Middle Ave. ENTER via Gale St to
Middle Ave. and enter the “Gravel Lot.”. ALL TRAFFIC MUST EXIT SOUTH! DUE TO CONSTRUCTION THIS LOT WILL
BE CHALLENGING.
LINE-UP: If you are unsure where you are to enter or line up please call (630) 256-3370 by 5/22/15 @ 3:00 p. m. Enclosed
is a copy of the parade Rules and Regulations. Take time to read through these and ensure all persons, vehicles, etc. in
your unit comply. Section Leaders and Route Marshals will be enforcing these rules especially regarding hand-outs &
music!
The parade route is East on Benton Street to Broadway, North on Broadway to Downer and West on Downer to END at
River. Disbursement is WEST to Lake Street. You must keep moving past the PARADE END as the rest of the parade is
still moving up behind you - NO STOPPING. BUS Units will turn RIGHT onto N. River to Bus Staging, We will have Section
Leaders at this point, but it is of great help if you keep this in mind. Walking Units may TURN LEFT and head SOUTH on
River or Middle Ave. to return to the Staging area. (NO VEHICLES ON RIVER OR MIDDLE)
