WHY STUDY FARSI/TAJIK AT KU?
-You can fulfill your foreign language requirement.
-Persian language students are eligible to apply for prestigious
scholarship opportunities such as Boren and Critical Language
Scholarships.
-Those who can read, speak and write Persian will have an edge
in applying for certain jobs with international development & aid
organizations, international law, journalism, government agencies,
conflict management & resolution and more.
-Persian is relatively easy to learn and pronounce! (WHAT?!) Learning
Persian is not as hard as you might think! Nouns have no gender and
there are no articles, unlike certain European languages that can use
up to four different types (masculine, feminine, neutral, plural)! Persian
is a very poetic, soft and song-like language and has been described
as one of the most beautiful languages of the world.

exciting emerging voices in world cinema today!

120 million people in the Middle East and Central Asia (Afghanistan,

-Learning Persian at KU teaches students both the Perso-Arabic
alphabet for Farsi and the Cyrillic alphabet for Tajik. Learning these
two scripts can be a gateway to exploring other Arabic-based script
languages like Urdu, Pashto and Arabic and Cyrillic-based languages
such as Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and more.
-You have the chance to get involved in interesting activities on
campus related to Persian language and culture: join the Persian
language table for tea and conversation; attend the annual Persian
Culture Festival; join the KU Persian Club to socialize and improve your
language skills beyond the classroom!
-Take advantage of study abroad options in Tajikistan! Students can
study both Farsi and Tajik in an immersive setting in Tajikistan. Find
