BEARING FRUIT
“Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.”
John’s words come to us on this day when the Gospel passage presents
us with the great image of the vine and the branches. Jesus uses the
image as a warning to those who have begun to distance themselves
from the way of the Lord. One of the ways this happens is when we love
God and others “in word or speech” instead of “in deed and truth.” What
does it mean for us to “remain in Christ”? In an extension of the
metaphor, the Lord gives us an example. If we
remain in him, we will bear much fruit. As the
branches, we draw strength from Christ who is the
vine. This strength enables us to bear fruit—to do
the work of true discipleship. copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Catholic Education Week 2015 begins today, Sunday, May 3rd.
The Catholic schools in our parish will engage in a series of events to
celebrate the ongoing gift of publicly-funded Catholic
education. You are invited to discover what celebrations
are happening in your children’s school and if possible,
attend. Publicly-funded Catholic education has existed in
Ontario since 1841 and its graduates have served Ontario
and Canada very well. The current generation of students
in our publicly-funded Catholic schools will serve with the
same spirit and generosity as their previous generations. We are proud
that they are already doing so!
Let’s support the dignity of Life! Since 1969, over 4 million children
have been killed by abortion in Canada, and in 2015, another 100,000
babies will be put to death, at taxpayer expense, while society
turns a blind eye. Each year at the “National March For
Life” in Ottawa, tens of thousands gather to demand
protection for children before and after birth. By your
presence, you can show lawmakers that the abortion issue is
not settled. A bus load from Wallaceburg will participate
(56 seats) adults-$70 high school students-$50. Will YOU join
us? Or consider sponsoring someone to join us next Thursday,
May 14th? For more details call Mike deBakker 519-627-3283 or Adam
Childs 519-626-9532.
