JOBSUMMARY
UnderthedirectionoftheChairpersonandtheKnoxCountyDevelopmentAgency(KCDA),
coordinatesallactivities,programsandoperationsoftheKCDAinanefficientandeffectivemanner.
Carriesoutavarietyofactivitiesfocusedontheretentionandexpansionofexistingbusinesses,
attractingnewbusinessesandcreatingjobswhilepreservingthequalityoflifeinKnoxCounty,
Nebraska.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
Administration
1. AssisttheKCDAinpreparationofannualbudget.
2. AttendandreportatallmeetingsofKnoxCountyDevelopmentAgency.
3. IssuemeetingnoticesandprepareminutesofKCDAmeetingsandothersecretarialduties.
4. Coordinateretentionandsolicitationofmembershipoftheorganizationwithassistance
fromtheBoard.
5. Billandmonitorreceiptofinter‐localagreementfunds.
6. Conductgeneralofficepracticestomaintainefficiency.
7. Maintainandencouragetheopendoorpolicy.
8. Monitorandrespondtoemailandtelephonecontactsinatimelymanner.
9. Updatewebsiteinformationandenhancethesitewithapplicableinformation.
PublicRelations
1. Workwithstate,federal,andutilityresourcesentitiestoserveallofKnoxCountyinsearch
ofprojectassistance.
2. AttendCity/VillageCouncilorotherCommunitymeetingsonanannualbasisintheKnox
CountycommunitiesofBloomfield,Center,Creighton,Crofton,Niobrara,Verdigre,Wausa,
andWinnetoon.
3. EmphasizetheimportanceofcommunityupdatestoNEDIand/orLOISCommunityProfile
Systemonline.
4. Maintainvisibilityatthecommunitylevel.
5. FormpartnershipswithareaorganizationsandcommunitycollegestopromoteKnox
CountyDevelopmentAgencyandbusinesstrainingparticipation.
6. Promoteapositiveinteractionwithcommunitygroupsandthemedia.
7. MaintainacloseworkingrelationshipwiththeCountyBoard,Mayors,CityAdministrator,
CivicOrganizations,DevelopmentBoards,CityCouncil,VillageBoards,legislators,andlocal
businessleaders.
8. Coordinate/presentpubliceducationprogramsthatwillhelpcurrentcitizensand
businesseswithintheKnoxCountyarea.
PlanningandResearch
1. Monitorschedulingofcounty‐wideeventstoavoidconflictwithattendance.
2. Attendmeetings,conferences,andworkshopsthataredeterminedtoenhancetheskillsand
encouragenetworkingnecessaryforthisposition.
3. Gatherinformationfromareanewspapers,newsletters,citizens,communities,city
governments,communitygroups,utilityprovidersandeconomicdevelopment
organizationsastheyrelatetoKnoxCountyareaprojectsandapplications.
4. Assistinconsolidatinginformationfromresourceentitiestouseinwritinggrantsthatwill
benefitcommunitiesinthecounty.
5. DeveloppoliciesandproceduresthrougharegularStrategicPlanningSessionevery3years.
6. Developbothshorttermandlongtermeconomicplansandprograms,notonlytoenhance
currentactivityinthearea,buttoencouragefutureactivity.
7. Monitorlocal,state,andfederallegislationandregulationsrelatingtoeconomic
development,andreportfindingsandtrendstotheBoardofDirectors.
8. ParticipateinthepromotionoftourisminKnoxCounty.
9. Encourageyouthinvolvementincounty‐wideplanningandactivities.
BusinessDevelopment
1. Establishandmaintainabusinessretentionandexpansionprogram.
2. Encouragebusinessretentionandexpansionthroughpersonalcontact.
3. Promoteimprovementofbusinessconditions.
4. Maintainconstantandaggressivecontactwithknownbusinessprospectswhohave
expressedinaninterestinKnoxCounty.
5. Developmentandmaintainacomprehensiveinventoryofavailablebuildingsandsitesin
theKnoxCountyareaforeconomicpurposesandtotrackbusinessmovementintoandout
ofthearea.
6. Developmarketingbrochures,promotionaldocumentsandcommunityinformational
materialsthatrepresentKnoxCounty.
7. Reacttocommunitybusinessconcernsquicklybyofferingpersonalizedassistance.
8. Prioritizedutiestoaccommodaterequestsforproposalsandsiteprospectvisitsas
opportunitiesarepresented.
9. Coordinateallinquiriesconcerningpotentialeconomicdevelopmentprojects.
Knowledge,Skills,andAbilities
1. Basiccomputerknowledgeincludingworkprocessing,spreadsheet,database,presentation
andaccountingsoftware.
2. Abilitytobeagoodlistenerandcommunicator.
3. Abilitytomaintainconfidentiality.
4. Abilitytoworkwithandmanagevolunteers.
5. Abilitytoreadandwriteproficiently.
6. Abilitytomakepublicpresentations.
7. Abilitytomaintainregularattendanceonthejob.
8. Proficiencyinemailtransmission,documentattachment,andmaintenanceofemailcontact
databaseisrequired.Communicationwithcommitteesandresourcesprovidersviaemailis
encouraged.
9. Ability to personally cover expenses for activities associated with the Agency pending
monthlyreimbursement.
PhysicalDemands
1. Requiresreadingacomputermonitor.
2. Requiresliftingofobjectsupto25pounds.
Educationand/orExperience
1. CompletionofBachelorsDegreeispreferredbutnotrequired.
2. TrainingandcompletionoftheEconomicDevelopmentInstituteispreferred.
3. Previous experience in community work, marketing, and other related fields will be
considered.
4. ValidNebraskadriver’slicenseisrequired.
