Marshland School is located at:
329 Prestons Road,
Marshland,
Christchurch, 8051 New Zealand.
PRINCIPAL’S NEWS:
Rugby, Netball, Football, Hockey, Table tennis and Ki o Rahi (Ki-o-rahi
is a ball sport played in New Zealand with a small round ball called a
'ki'. The game is widely known in Māori communities and in scattered
mainstream locations throughout the country. It is a fast-paced sport
incorporating skills similar to Australian Rules, rugby union, netball
and touch).
Nga mihi nui
Our deepest condolences go out to Mike J on the passing of his
father, and to Wayne J on the passing of his sister-in-law.
We hope the nice weather will last this week so we can run our Cross
Country day on Friday! The day begins with year 5 boys at 1:40pm,
followed by the year 6 boys and year 5 and 6 girls at 1:55pm. After this
the year 7 and 8 boys and girls will run and then there will be a whole
school Fun Run to finish up at 2:35. Come along and join in the fun!
We would love to see you there.
This year Marshland School has been part of the organisation of a
localized sport competition in the east, and as such has joined the
Rawhiti Community Sports Cluster instead of our usual Hagley Sports
Competitions. The benefits of this are that there will be more game
time, more children involved, along with reduced travel time and cost.
The schools in this cluster include: Marshland, Queenspark, New
Brighton Catholic, Parkview School. Rawhiti and South New Brighton.
These schools represent around 1000 children. The initial winter sports
being offered include:
We are also looking at summer options including: Ultimate Frisbee,
Softball, Cricket, Tennis, Touch, Cross country and Gardening club.
We are excited about this new opportunity, and believe it will give our
Year 5 - 8 children a wider range of sporting options than previously.
Our Winter Sports programme will begin in 2 weeks’ time.
MARSHLAND
INTERMEDIATE
INFORMATION
EVENING 2016 FOR PARENTS, CAREGIVERS AND
YEAR 6 CHILDREN.
This evening we are holding an information evening for parents and
children about our new Marshland Intermediate learning hub for 2016.
Come along and get excited too. It starts at 7pm in the Toroa block and
will run for approximately 1 hour. We have also developed an
intermediate prospectus that you will be able to take away with you.

Pukeko and Tui Sports
Pukeko Tui Sports (for years 1 -4) begins on Wednesday 13th May at
3:15 until 4pm. This is very popular and so spaces filled quickly,
however there are one or two spaces left in rugby and basketball. The
cost is $10 which needs to be paid at the office. The programme
concludes on 10th June. Many thanks to Hannah Drury for her
excellent organisation of this.
WELCOME TO NEW CHILDREN:
We welcome the following new children to Marshland school:
Eloise W, Lily and Will B and Tilly R (in Pukeko 1), Nikita M (Tui
1), Corban M & Shyane M (Korimako 1).
COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE AT MARSHLAND
SCHOOL:
Each term we are required to remind parents of our
complaints procedure. Concerns and complaints are best
dealt with at the time. Your first port of call if you have a
concern or complaint, should be to your child’s class teacher or
the team leader. If the outcome is not satisfactory, then make
a time to meet with the principal – Jacqui Pascoe. If this is not
satisfactory, a letter can be written to the Board. Our
complaints procedure is available on our website under School
Docs. A flow chart is also on view in the foyer.
SCHOOL UNIFORM – BLACK SHOES:
Please ensure that your child wears
the correct uniform to school. Our
school uniform shoes are black, so
please make sure your child wears sensible black shoes to
school not coloured striped ones. Please make sure your child
also wears black socks. Thanks for your support.
VOMITING AND DIAHHOREA BUG:
We still have the vomiting and diahhorea bug doing the
rounds at school. If your children get this bug, it is imperative
that you keep them away from school and adhere to the 48
hour Ministry of Health ruling and keep them off school until
48 hours after the last symptoms have disappeared. This is
the only way we can break the cycle of the bug. Many thanks

School hours are 9am to 3pm. It is important that your child arrives at school by 9am so they don’t miss out on any learning and important
information the teacher may give them first thing in the morning about the daily learning programme. A few minutes late each day can add up to
several hours of missed learning time.
Any late children must come to the office before they go to their classroom, so office staff can mark them on the computer absence programme and
save unnecessary telephone calls to parents.
THE POWER OF YET:
Marshland School is currently learning the song in the attached video link because the message truly reflects aspects of our school learning model that
the children can relate to. To hear the song, go to .https://youtu.be/Kd_WENe8H-I
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE:
Parents are currently collecting breakfast cereals for Ronald McDonald House. If you would like to donate a breakfast cereal or two, could you please
put these in the box in the hall. They kindly request no Weetbix please  – as Ronald McDonald House has heaps of this from the recent Weetbix
competition.

are required to supervise the teams each Friday from 1 to 3pm. The last day of Winter Sport is 14th August. If you can help, please contact Mike
Jefferies.
P AND T SPORT:
The first session will begin next Wednesday 13th May at 3:15 to 4:00pm and will continue each Wednesday until the 10th of June. We kindly ask that
the children wait quietly outside Tui 1 and 2 for their coaches until the old bell rings at 3:15.

school each week.
Should you wish to register your child with this programme please collect a brochure from the school office.
If your child has an existing ASB account please complete section 1 of the application form and return it to your school office.
For a new ASB account please complete the application form in full (2 pages) and return to the school office.
Once an ASB account is established your child will receive an exciting ASB banking pack. When your child has money to bank they put their envelope

Term 3
Term 4
Monday 20 April - Friday 3 July - (11 weeks) 106 half days
Monday 20 July - Friday 25 September - (10 weeks) 100 half days
Monday 12 October - Wednesday 16
December - (10 weeks) 92 half days
TOTAL: 384 half days (As set by MOE)
CAR PARKING AND CYCLISTS:
Parents - please watch out for cyclists when you open your car doors.
Look over your
shoulder behind you, as well as in your rear vision and wing mirrors before you open your car doors. Do not open your
car doors without thoroughly checking that the way is clear. It only takes a moment to check and thus avoid a
potential accident.
CAR PARKING – PLEASE DO NOT PARK OUTSIDE FUNDAMENTALS PRE-SCHOOL:
The pre-school across the road has requested that Marshland school parents please refrain from parking their cars in the
Fundamental Car Parks. If parents have a younger sibling attending the pre-school, that is fine of course, but if not, you
should not be parking there. Fundamentals have parents with young babies who need to park immediately outside the
building, especially at the busy collection and drop off times (8.30-9am and 2.30 to 3pm). There are tow away signs in place
and these will be enforced if Marshland parents continue to park there. There are plenty of car parks behind the church that
you can use.
Many thanks
