Splendid Spring Used Book Sale: 4-7-15 4-17-15
The Friends of the Library will be holding its Splendid Spring Used Book
Sale at Library this year. It will be held in the Conference Room at the library itself starting on Tuesday, April 7th. We have a very wide selection
this year including a very large non-fiction section. This is a great chance
to expand your own collection and to support your library so we can continue to provide wonderful programming for our community.
Prices will be full-price from Tuesday, April 7th to Friday, April 10th, half
price on Saturday, April 11th and Tuesday, April 14th, and the dollar per
bags days will be Wednesday, April 15th and Thursday, April 16th. All
remaining books will be free on Friday, April 17th.
The library is always accepting donations of used books, but we do request no textbooks, encyclopedias, or Reader’s Digest materials. If you
would like to help at the book sale, stop by the library and sign up today!

Children’s Easter Egg Hunt: 4-3-15
Easter is on its way, and the library is celebrating the seasonal
fun and the joy of Spring! Come join us for a children’s Easter
Egg Hunt at the Library on Friday, April 3rd at 3:30 P.M. We’ll
be giving away lots of prizes, including candy, books, stuffed
animals and more!
The hunt will take place entirely inside the library and will start
in the conference room. Please bring your families and children of all ages for a fun time to hunt among the shelves and
stacks for hidden treasures.
Women’s Night Out: 4-27-15
The Library will be featuring a Women’s Night Out on Monday, April 27th
starting at 7:00 P.M. This year’s program will feature Christy Hunter Hall
(President of the Friends of the Library) who will be speaking on her backpacking trip through Spain last year. She will even be bringing the gear she
carried with her on her journey and describing the beauty and wonder of
Spain’s cities, towns, countryside, and landscape.
Following her will be local businessman Mark DiSilvestri, and he will be
talking about his experiences with Debi's Diamond Street Bakery & Café,
right here in Mercer. Mark will speak about starting up the business, the
history of Mercer, and the historical significance of the Victorian meeting
room in the bakery.
Door prizes and light refreshments will be provided (some even baked by
the new Director himself!). Tickets can be claimed at the library front desk
starting April 1, 2015. Space is very limited, so please reserve your spot
today!
National Library Week: 12-19
The American Library Association is celebrating National Library Week from
April 12-19, 2015, and this year’s theme is “Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library.” Public libraries depend on the support of patrons and users who check
out books, use computers, attend programs, search for information on computers, download digital e-books and audio books, and so much more!
Here are some things you can do to support the library:
 Join the Friends of the Library
 Learn about how libraries are funded
 Write letters to your political leaders to express the importance of the library
 Volunteer at the library
 Make a donation to the library
 Bring your friends and families to the library for materials and programs

Family Movie Night Presents
Into the Woods: 4-17-2015
From the director of CHICAGO and the producer of WICKED

a witch's curse. With an all-star cast, this spellbinding adventure
is everything you could ever wish for!
Join us on Friday, April 17 at 6:00 P.M. for this whimsical movie,
free popcorn, and lots of fun!

Arbor Day Family Trees: 4-24-15
Celebrate Arbor Day at the library on Friday, April 24th! We will be featuring a display of local family trees and heritages in the library to see
the history of our area laid out through the generations. If you have a
family tree or a family history that you would like to share or display,
contact the library at (724) 662-4233.
The library will also be unveiling a new bonsai tree which we hope will
add to the great calming atmosphere at Mercer for many years to
come. Honor the past with family trees and look to the future by joining
our bonsai tree planting!
Adult Book Discussion: 5-4-2015
Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world

library, Poetry activities for all ages will be
available to celebrate the written word and
for appreciating the art of writing, expression, and feeling.
The library is also accepting donations of
empty tissue boxes and empty glass baby
food jars to prepare for crafts for our summer reading program!

E-Reader Workshops: 4-14-15 and 4-22-15
Bring your Kindle, tablet, phone or other digital device to our monthly
e-reader workshops to learn how to access free e-books and audio
books from Overdrive. We now offer both evening and daytime sessions. This month the workshops will be held on Tuesday, April 14th
6:00-7:00 P.M. and Wednesday, April 22nd, 10:00-11:00 A.M. You
may also call to schedule an individual appointment.
Visit the used book sale cart!
The Friends of the Mercer Area Library will be selling gently used
books during normal operating hours at the used book sale book
cart. The cart will be located near the main doors of the library.
Hardcover and paperback books will be available featuring many
well-known and loved authors in various genres. Children’s and
young adult books will also be available for purchase. Prices will be
marked on each individual book, and payments for purchases must
be made at the front desk.
Toddler Block Party: 4-11-15
Come to the library on Saturday, April 11th at 10:00 to learn more
about the value of block play and to play with our new blocks, animals, people, and vehicles. Make new friends while discovering the
importance of creative play. We look forward to seeing you there!
The Mercer Area Library was asked to be part of a state-wide study correlating
building block play to development of toddler and preschooler language and
literacy skills, as well as cognitive and spatial skill development.
