MMHS Eagle HighFLIGHTS:
*MMHS Boys’ Tennis: The MMHS Boys Tennis Team won the Championship Title at the St. George
Invitational held March 27-28. The Golden Eagles won the title last year too but never in the 5 years going to
the tournament has the team finished with four 1st place results and one 2nd place in an overwhelming
victory. After defeating three teams the first day, Varsity 1st singles Andrew Blonquist lead the team by
beating Dixie 9-7 in a tough battle and went on to beat Spanish Fork in straight sets. 2nd Singles Eric Whiting
beat Spanish Fork easily and went on to a rematch victory against Orem 7-6,6-1. 3rd Singles Brigham Perry
battled three long sets 6-0, 6-7, 6-3 to defeat Desert Hills as did 1st Doubles team (Senior) Nam Luu and
(Freshman) Danny Blonquist. 2nd doubles team Joe Phelps/Austin Edwards played great tennis and beat
Spanish Fork quickly but went on to their first loss against Desert Hills in the finals. The team won 23 out of
25 matches in a two day tournament. Congratulations on a GREAT win!
*MMHS Orchestra: Our two orchestras performed in the Region Orchestra Festival at Salem Hills High
School on April 2nd. The Concert Orchestra played well and received three scores: One Superior (I-) and Two
Excellent (II+, II+). The Chamber Orchestra also played very well and received three superior ratings ( I, I,
I), which qualifies them for State. The judges complimented them highly - one saying that if he were allowed
to do so, he would have given them a I+ (a "I") is the highest score possible. The second judge said it was a
"stellar" performance from start to finish and the third described it with "Bravo!"
The students have worked very hard and I'm very, very proud of them. As we all know, we have great
students at MMHS and I'm grateful I have the opportunity to work with the orchestra students. They are truly
awesome people.
~Mrs. Helquist
*MMHS Dance Company: The MMHS Dance Company attended the Dance Company Festival and
Adjudication (DCFA) on Wed. April 1st at the Covey Center in Provo. MMDC received superior scores for 6 of
their student choreographed pieces. Congratulations to Elise Barney, Faith Taylor, Lexi Robinson, Kathryn
Southworth, Alexa Knutzen, Alissa Kiser, and Scottee Studdert. MMDC officers also received the Judges Choice
Award for their piece entitled "Work". All of these pieces were showcased in the annual Dance Company
Concert on Friday, April 3rd. The Dance 2 class, Social Dance class, and MJHS Dance classes also performed
in this show full of dance talent and inspiration.
