Dear Parents,
保護者の皆様へ
Thank you for choosing to enroll your children
in KIU Academy. We hope that they will have a
positive learning experience in the unique
environment of our school. We will do our best to
cooperate with you in achieving the educational
goals you have for your children.
ＫＩＵアカデミーへの入学を選んでいただいた
ことに対して、まずお礼を申し上げます。本校の
提供する独特の環境の中で、皆様のお子様達が楽
しい学習経験を重ねていかれますことを心から願
っており、保護者の皆様と協力をしながら、保護
者の方が生徒のために掲げておられる教育目標を
達成できるよう最善を尽くしてまいります。
In this handbook you will find information
regarding policies and procedures. They have
been designed to help your children get the most
from their experience at KIU Academy. Please
take the time to carefully read this handbook. If
you have any questions regarding its contents,
please feel free to contact any administrator. We
would be happy to clarify the matter.
このハンドブックには、ＫＩＵアカデミーにお
ける学校生活を最も有効に過ごすために役立つ方
針や規則に関する情報を記載しています。少しお
時間をお取りいただき、このハンドブックを注意
深く読んでくださいますようお願いいたします。
この中に書かれている事柄に関してご質問等がご
ざいましたら、教職員までお気軽にお問い合わせ
ください。喜んでお話しさせていただきます。
After you finish reading it, please sign the Notice
of Agreement form (see the last page of this
handbook). This form states that you have read
this handbook and are agreeing to abide by the
policies and procedures described, as well as to
fulfill any additional responsibilities expected of
students and parents. The Notice of Agreement
also serves as your permission for your children to
attend various activities and events scheduled
throughout the year. These may include field trips,
school-related activities, etc. (Participation in
sports clubs requires a separate form).
このハンドブックをお読みいただいた後、ハン
ドブック同意書（ハンドブックの最後のページ）
にご署名いただきますようお願いいたします。同
意書にはハンドブックを読み終えられたこと、そ
してその上で、そこに説明されている本校のポリ
シーや方針、生徒やその保護者に求められる責任
を果たすことに同意する旨が書かれています。ま
た同意書への署名は、一年を通して、生徒が様々
な活動や行事へ参加する許可を与えることにもな
ります。これには遠足、学校関連の活動等が含ま
れます（スポーツクラブへの参加に関しては、別
の同意書が必要となります）。

Educational Philosophy
教育理念
At KIU Academy, we believe that there is one
God - the God Who spoke all matter, energy, and
time into existence. This Creator God is the source
of absolute truth. He reveals this truth in His
creation (the material world), special revelation
(the Bible), and through His incarnation in the
person of Jesus Christ. As creatures bearing His
image, we are responsible to act on His truths in
every aspect of our lives.
ＫＩＵアカデミーでは、みことばにより、すべ
ての物質、力、時を存在させられた唯一なる神が
存在しておられると信じています。この創造主な
る神が絶対的な真理の源であられ、その真理を、
その被造物（物質的な世界）、特別な啓示（聖
書）、そして受肉された人としてのイエス・キリ
ストを通して示してくださっています。私達は、
神の御姿に似せて造られた者として、人生のすべ
ての領域において、神の真理に基づき行動する責
任を負っています。
We believe that all people are created in the
image of God. This means that we all reflect His
qualities in that we are active, purposeful, rational,
creative, moral, and possessing free will. Because
of this, we believe that it is important to craft
lessons that allow students to recognize these
qualities and use them in ways that please our
Creator.
ＫＩＵアカデミーでは、すべての人々は神の御
姿に似せて造られた者であると信じています。こ
れは、私達が行動のできる者であり、また目的、
理性を持ち、想像力、道徳観、また自由意志を持
った者であるのは神のご性質を反映している故で
あるという意味です。それ故に、生徒がこのよう
な性質に目を留め、創造主を喜ばせる方法でそれ
を用いていくために役立つ授業を計画することが
重要であると考えています。
We believe that all people live according to a
worldview, whether they realize it or not. One of
our goals is to help our students recognize their
worldview and compare it with a biblical
worldview. To that end, we purposefully expose
them to biblical principles by integrating them in
our lessons and helping them to identify the
differences and similarities.
ＫＩＵアカデミーでは、人間は全て、自覚のあ
るなしに関わらず、世界観に基づいて生きている
と考えており、生徒が自分の世界観を認識し、そ
れを聖書の世界観と比較する手助けをすることを
目標の１つとしています。そのため、授業に聖書
の原則を取り入れ、意識的に生徒がそれらに触れ
る機会を設けることによって、世界観の相違点と
類似点について見極めることができるようにして
いきます。
We believe that teachers should approach all
that they do from an eternal frame of reference.
Their interactions with children in and outside the
classroom should be considered to have eternal
significance. As teachers we must strive to love
our students as God loves us.
ＫＩＵアカデミーでは、教員はその言動のすべ

At KIU Academy, we believe that our role is to
assist the parents in the education and
development of their child. We believe that the
ultimate responsibility for the education, behavior,
and development of the child belongs to the
parents. As far as our abilities and resources allow,
we will help parents in fulfilling these
responsibilities.

The mission of KIU Academy, an international
bilingual Christian school, is to provide, from a
Biblical perspective:

インターナショナル
As an international school, KIU Academy
accepts students of any nationality for enrollment
provided that they are able to perform as a native
speaker of either English or Japanese. We also
employ teachers and staff from many different
countries. Our curriculum is college preparatory in
nature and is geared to meet the requirements of
western colleges and universities.
インターナショナルスクールであるＫＩＵアカ
デミーは、英語、日本語のいずれかを母国語同様
に話すことができれば、どの国の生徒も受け入れ
ています。また様々な国の教師およびスタッフを
雇用しています。本校のカリキュラムは大学進学
にむけて準備されており、欧米の大学進学に基準
をおいています。
バイリンガル
Bilingual
ＫＩＵアカデミーはバイリンガルスクールであ
り、英語と（または）日本語で多くのクラスを提
供しています。生徒がその母国語を十分に学び、
同時に第二外国語も堪能に駆使できるようになる
ことを目標としています。生徒の第二外国語習得
率は生徒自身のやる気、学校内外での練習量、保
護者からの励ましなどにも大きく影響されます。

As a bilingual school, KIU Academy offers
many classes in English and/or Japanese. Our
intent is to help students learn their first language
well, and be able to use their second language as
proficiently as possible. The extent to which a
student learns a second language is directly related
to his or her motivation, how much practice the
student does in and outside of school, and the
encouragement of parents. Being a bilingual
school does not mean that all the staff members
are bilingual.

KIU Academy is a conservative, mainstream,
evangelical Christian organization.
ＫＩＵアカデミーは保守的な主流の福音派キリス
As a Christian school, KIU Academy requires
all teachers and staff to be Christians in regular
attendance and in good standing at their local
church. Our Christian beliefs and biblical
worldview permeate our curriculum, lessons,
policies, priorities and rationale for decisionmaking. We expect all students (whether Christian
or not) to abide by a biblical understanding of
morality and respect for constituted authority.
キリスト教系学校であるＫＩＵアカデミーでは、
全教職員に対し、地域の教会に定期的に出席し、
そこにおいて認められているクリスチャンである
ことを求めています。キリスト教の信仰と聖書の
世界観が、本校のカリキュラムやレッスン、方針、
決定を下す際の優先順位と論理に浸透しています。
全生徒（クリスチャンであるかどうかを問わず）
に対し、道徳や既存の権威に対し、敬意を払うと
いったことに関して聖書の教えに従うことを求め

We do not claim that, because KIU Academy is
a Christian school, our conduct and performance
will always be above reproach. We will, however,
always strive to serve each student and parent with
respect, kindness and love – irrespective of
differences in creed.

ると言うことはできません。けれども、すべての
生徒と保護者の方に対し、信条の相違に関係なく、

Teachers and staff are allowed to freely share
our Christian beliefs with students. However,
students are not coerced into embracing the
school’s Christian beliefs. If students express a
desire to convert, we will instruct and guide them
through the process.
教職員には、キリスト教の信仰を自由に生徒と
分かち合うことが許可されています。しかしなが
ら生徒に対し、本校のキリスト教信仰を受け入れ
るよう強制することはありません。生徒が改宗の
意思表示をした場合、その過程の指導を行います。
Accreditation
認定
KIU Academy’s high school (grades 10 through
12 only) is recognized as a ‘miscellaneous school’
(Kakushu gakko) by the Kyoto prefecture since
April 2003.
ＫＩＵアカデミーの高等部（１０－１２年生の
み）は２００３年４月に京都府から「各種学校」
として認定されました。
１－１２年生は、２０１１年３月にキリスト教
系インターナショナルスクール連盟（ＡＣＳＩ）
の認定を受けました（日本の文部科学省がＡＣＳ
Ｉを認定しています。下記のサイトにアクセスし

Grades 1 through 12 are fully accredited by the
Association of Christian Schools International
(ACSI) since March 2011. (Access the website

Procedure

1. Those interested in applying for admission
should contact the Office of Admissions to
request information and the application forms.
2. Interviews
and
placement
tests
are
administered (details depend on the grade
level of the applicant).
3. Results of interview and tests, together with
the content of school transcripts and
application form are considered by the school.
4. The Office of Admissions makes a decision
and the applicant is notified.

に連絡し、詳細情報と入学願書を要請してく
ださい。
General Terms and Requirements
一般的な規則と条件
Students from all backgrounds are accepted
regardless of race, ethnic origin, or religious
background. Students must be fluent in either
Japanese or English and must demonstrate average
intellectual ability. Learning disabilities must be
specified in writing by a professional and include
recommendations as to how the school is to
support the student. A student’s admission to and
continued enrollment at KIU Academy are based
on full disclosure of school records and known
learning disabilities. Students with physical
handicaps, as well as students with poor
academic/behavioral records may be admitted on a
provisional basis.
本校では人種や種族的出身、宗教的背景に関わ
らず、様々な背景を持つ生徒を受け入れています。
生徒は日本語、または英語のどちらかに堪能でな
ければならず、また平均的な知的能力を有してい
ることを示していなければなりません。学習障害
を抱える生徒の場合には、専門家によってその障
害を特定し、本校がどのように生徒を支援するべ
きなのかに関する推薦事項を記載した書類が提出
されなければなりません。ＫＩＵアカデミーへの
入学と在学の継続には、それまでの学校での記録
と既知の学習障害に関し、完全に開示することが
基本として求められています。身体的な障害のあ
る生徒、また学業と言動に問題のある生徒は、仮
入学となることがあります。
2. 面接とクラス分けテストが実施されます（詳
細は志願者の学年によって異なる）。
3. 面接とテストの結果は、成績証明書と入学願
書と合わせ、本校によって考慮されます。
4. 入試担当課が合否を決定し、志願者に連絡が
されます。
年齢条件
Age Requirements
１年生に入学するためには、２０１３年４月１
日の時点で６歳になっていなければなりません。
学長・校長の判断によって例外が認められること
もあります。
１年生以上の学年への入学に関しては、志願者
の年齢、学習能力、成熟度、それまでの学校在籍
歴に基づき考慮されます。
To enter grade 1, a student must be six years-old
by April 1. 2013. Exceptions may be granted at
the discretion of the administration.
Admission to grade levels beyond first grade is
considered based on the applicant’s age, academic
ability, maturity level and previous years of
schooling.

退学
Withdrawal from school
退学を希望する生徒は、退学予定の学期の始業日
から最低６週間前までに事務局へ退学届けを提出し
なければなりません。生徒が再入学を希望する場合、
入学金の納入をも含む通常の入試手続きを行わなけ
ればなりません。
Students who wish to withdraw from school
must submit a notice of withdrawal to the office
no later than six weeks prior to the starting date of
the trimester in which they plan to leave. If
students wish to re-enroll, they must go through
proper admission procedures, including payment
of admission fees.
Long-Term Leave of Absence
長期休学
Students who wish to apply for long-term leave
of absence status are required to submit a request
to the office no later than six weeks prior to the
starting date of the trimester during which they
will be absent. Students may apply for long-term
leave of absence status for justifiable reasons such
as health-related problems, relocation of a
parent/guardian, etc. A fee of 15,000 yen per
trimester will be required to ensure a seat in the
grade-level class.
長期休学を希望する生徒は、休学する学期の始業
日から最低６週間前までに長期休学届を提出しなけ
ればなりません。健康関連の問題、保護者の引越しと
いった正当な理由がある場合、長期休学を申請する
ことができます。その在籍学年において席を確保する
ために、１学期１５，０００円の費用が必要となります。
学資援助
Financial Aid
学費の支払いが困難なご家庭のために学資援助
が提供されることがあります。援助を受けるため
には、個人の財政報告の提出が求められます。詳

having difficulty affording tuition. Eligibility
requires the release of personal financial records.

学費納入滞納
Financial Delinquency
学費の納入が滞納された場合、本校のポリシー
により、成績、成績証明書、推薦状、卒業証書の
発行が差し止められることになります。学費の滞
納が３０日を越える場合、その生徒は期末試験の
受験の差し止めと（または）停学処分になること
があります。滞納が６０日を越える場合、その生

In the case of financial delinquency, school
policy allows for the withholding of grades,
transcripts, letters of reference and graduation
diplomas. Students whose tuition is outstanding
beyond 30 days may be barred from taking final
exams and/or suspended. If payment is
outstanding beyond 60 days, the student may be
removed from the school roll.

to KIU Academy students beginning on the day of
enrollment and ending on the day of graduation,
withdrawal or long-term leave of absence.
Coverage is applicable only to incidents at school

GENERAL SERVICES
Tutoring
個別指導
Tutoring can be arranged for students having
difficulties academically. Upon parents’ request,
the vice-principal can suggest possible tutors
(availability varies). Payment for tutoring services
must be arranged privately between the parents
and the tutor. Tutoring is restricted to after-school
hours (3:30 – 5:30).
学業面において困難を覚える生徒のために、

Health Services
KIU Academy does not employ a full-time nurse.
For minor injuries, the office staff, supervising
teacher, or administrator on duty may administer
first aid.

処置を行います。
大きな負傷、または生命が脅かされるような状
況が起こった場合、救急車を要請し、生徒を病院

If a serious injury or life-threatening situation
occurs, an ambulance will be called to take the
student to a local hospital. The parents of the
student will be notified immediately.
食事
ＫＩＵアカデミーにはカフェテリアがありませ
ん。けれども受付から昼食を注文することができ
ます。またＭＳ／ＨＳ生は昼食時、最寄のコンビ
ニエンスストアへ行き、昼食を購入することがで
きます。
Meals
KIU Academy does not have a cafeteria.
However, lunches can be ordered from the
receptionist’s office. In addition, secondary school
students are allowed to go to the convenience
store nearby at lunchtime to make purchases.
交通手段
Transportation
Bus service is provided for elementary students
(grades 1-5) to and from Kintetsu Shintanabe
station and JR Kyotanabe station. The school bus
picks up students on schooldays at Kintetsu
Shintanabe station taxi stand at 8:15 and 8:33 and
JR Kyotanabe station east exit at 8:30. In the
afternoons, the bus departs from KIUA at 3:20
and 3:45 and goes to JR Kyotanabe station then
Kintetsu Shintanabe station taxi stand.

Every day of school missed weakens a student’s
academic experience and is a serious handicap in
doing his/her best work. Therefore, parents are
urged to make sure that their children are in
school.

Homeroom for high school students begins at 8:40.
Homeroom for all other students begins at 8:45.
Elementary students are dismissed at 3:15 but may
be on campus until 4:00 PM. Middle school and
high school students are dismissed at 3:30. 6ththrough 8th grade students may stay until 4:45 and
9th through 12th grade students may stay on
campus until 5:30 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays
and Fridays. On Wednesdays all middle school
and high school students must leave by 4:00 PM.

Absences

A parent or guardian is required to call the office
by 10:00 AM when a student is absent (unless an
advance notice of absence form has been
submitted). Students who are tardy to school must
check in with the office.

Computer Use

Computer technology is an important tool for
learning. KIU Academy students from elementary
through high school use computers for conducting
research and in the completion of class and

Students may not eat in the classroom except
during lunch hour. Students are responsible to
clean up the classroom after they are finished.
Exceptions include:

common areas or outside. Students are responsible

require them to eat or drink in class, must inform
the school office.

Parents, especially of elementary students, are

Chewing Gum

In order to avoid damage to school and/or
personal property, chewing gum is not allowed on
the KIU Academy campus.

ています。
遊具、電子機器と漫画（コミック）
Toys, Electronic devices & Manga (comics)
学校内において、遊具（電子とそうでないもの
も）、コミック（漫画も含む）、ステレオ、トレ
ーディングカード等は禁止されています。見つか
った場合、教職員が没収し、その日の終わりに返
却することになります。生徒がこの規則への違反
を繰り返した場合、その遊具は没収され、保護者
に直接返却されることになります。この規則は問
題の発生と遊具の紛失等を防ぐためのものです。
Toys (electronic or not), comics (Manga
included), personal music players, trading cards
and the like are not allowed in school. When
found, these items will be confiscated by teachers
and returned to the student at the end of the day. If
students repeatedly disregard this policy, the item
will be confiscated and only returned directly to
the parents or guardians. The purpose of this
policy is to reduce conflicts, lost and missing toys,
etc.

Lost and Found
落し物
Lost items will be placed in the Lost and Found
(L&F) storage for the duration of the term.
Students may reclaim items from L&F everyday
between 3:30 and 4:00 PM. Valuable items will be
kept by the school office or principal until claimed
for safekeeping. Unclaimed items will be disposed
of at the end of each term.
落し物は学期末まで落し物保管所に保管されま
す。持ち主が現れなかった物は、学期末に処分さ

Lockers

Students will be issued a locker or cubicle for
books and personal belongings. The school is not
responsible for the safety of locker contents. All
books and personal belongings should be kept
with the student or in the locker at all times. If
items are left out of the lockers after school hours,
they may be placed in the Lost & Found.
Replacement of locker keys can be made in the
receptionist’s office for a fee. The school reserves
the right to inspect any locker at any time.

Textbooks
教科書
Students will be issued textbooks at the
beginning of the school year and will need to
return them at the end of the year or when they
leave the school. Textbooks are school property
and students are expected to take good care of
them. Students will be charged for textbooks that
are lost or damaged beyond normal wear and tear.

Workbooks and other expendable books will be
given to the students. These become the personal

In order to track general academic progress,

are administered the Stanford
Achievement Tests each school year. Reasonable
English ability is a pre-requisite to take this test.
English language (TOEFL) and Japanese
Language (Kanji Kentei) acquisition tests are
administered at various times during the year.

Medical Information
医療情報
Parents are requested to furnish medical
information annually to the school by filling out
the Health Information Form. Without this form
on file, regardless of the type (prescription or
over-the-counter medication), no medication will
be administered by a school employee. However,
if parents wish to come to school, they may
administer the medication.
保護者の方には、毎年、健康調査票に記入し、
生徒の医療に関する情報を提供してくださるよう
お願いしています。健康調査票の提出がされない
場合、薬の種類に関わらず（医師による処方薬、
または売薬）教職員が投薬をすることはできませ
ん。けれども保護者が登校し、ご自身で投薬をし
ていただいてもかまいません。
ＫＩＵアカデミーに入学したことによって、Ｋ
ＩＵアカデミーに売薬（主に痛み止めと解熱剤）

By enrolling your child at KIU Academy (and
submitting the Health Information Form), you are
giving KIU Academy permission to administer
over-the-counter medications (primarily pain
relievers or fever reducers).

If a temporary medical or health condition that
would curtail any activity of a student develops, it
should be reported in writing to the appropriate

Please do not send children to school or on any
school activity if they have a fever or are vomiting.
Students showing signs of fever (37.5oC >) or
nausea while at school will be sent to the office.
The parents will be contacted and advised that the
student return home.

If children have infectious or contagious
diseases (such as influenza), and there is the
possibility of infecting other students, they must
stay home till 3 days after the fever subsided and
at least 5 days from the start of the flu.

ため、解熱後３日間、またはインフルエンザ発症

Head Lice
アタマジラミ
Parents are asked to help prevent the spread of
head lice by checking their children’s head for
head lice weekly. If head lice are found, please
notify the school immediately and keep the child
at home until treatment has been started, including
the removal of lice eggs. If teachers see lice in
children’s hair, the administration will be notified
and the parents will be requested to remove the
infected children from school and begin treatment
as soon as possible.
アタマジラミの伝染防止のために、保護者の方
には、毎週、お子様の頭にアタマジラミがついて
いないか確認してくださるようにお願いいたしま
す。アタマジラミが発見された場合、直ちに学校
までご連絡いただき、アタマジラミの卵の除去も

職員が生徒の髪の毛にアタマジラミを発見した場

すが、訪問予定の前日までに学校から許可を得て
いただかなければなりません。これは生徒の安全
確保のためであり、突然の訪問者はお断りさせて
いただくこともあります。
Visitors
KIU Academy welcomes visitors, but
permission from the administration must be
sought at least one day before the intended visit.
This is in order to ensure the safety of our students.
Unannounced visitors may be asked to leave.
訪問者は到着後、事務局へ連絡し、当日のみ有
効の訪問許可証を受け取ってください。訪問終了
の際には、再び事務局へ連絡し、訪問許可証を返
却してください。
Visitors need to report to the school office upon
arrival and receive a visitor pass for the day. After
the visit, the visitor needs to report to the office to
return the visitor’s pass.
Publications
刊行物
The Torch is KIUA’s newsletter. It is distributed
to the students at the beginning of each month
when classes are in session. The first issue of each
term is mailed directly to the parents. The Torch
can also be downloaded from the parents’
information portal.

Parking
駐車

Parking space for cars is very limited. The
parking lots on the side and in front of A-building
are reserved primarily for KIUA staff and only a
few slots for visitors are open. If parking is
unavailable, please park your car along the side of
the road by Ground C (the dirt ground).
Motorcycles, Bicycles, Skateboards
and Roller Skates

Transportation To/From School
通学時の交通手段
Parents who are driving to school need to
approach the school from the west and drop their
children off in front of the A Building stairs
between 8:15 and 8:45 AM (fig.1). The same is
asked of those coming to pick up their children
after school. Parents should not park their car or
get out of their car when they are dropping their
children off or picking them up in front of A
Building. Parents are advised not to drop off or
pick up their child on the south side of the road
because this may lead to children running across
the road at various places.
車で生徒を送ってこられる場合、８：１５－８：４５の時
間帯に、西方向から学校へ近づき、Ａ校舎階段前に
停車し、生徒を降ろしてくださるようお願いいたします
（図１）。またお迎えに来られる時にも同様に行ってく
ださいますようお願いいたします。Ａ校舎前での生徒
の乗下車の際、保護者の方が車から降りられたり、駐
車されたりすることはご遠慮ください。また生徒がいろ
いろな場所で道路を横切ることにつながるため、道路
の南側で生徒を乗下車させることのないようお願いい
たします。
徒歩通学の生徒は地図で示した道路を利用して
ください（図２と付録を参照）。自転車通学の場
合はより広い道路を使ってもかまいません。
Students walking to school are required to walk
on the sidewalk along the main road (fig.2 &
Appendix). Students who ride bicycles to school
can use other access roads that are wider.

Telephone Calls and Cell Phones

In general, students should not receive personal
phone calls during school hours. Students will not
be pulled from class to receive a phone call except
in an emergency.

話のために、授業中の生徒を呼び出すことはしま

Students are not permitted to use cell phones on
campus unless they receive permission from the
school staff. If a cell phone is used or heard during
the school day it will be confiscated and returned
at the end of the day.

Promotion from one school division to the next
is dependent on age and satisfactory academic
progress. The age requirement is 12 years of age
for middle school and 15 for high school
(completed on or before April 1). Besides age,
satisfactory academic performance (D- or above)
in core classes (English or ESL, Japanese, math,
science, and social studies) is also a determining
factor. Before being promoted from middle school
to high school, students must also have an overall
GPA of 1.00 or higher. KIU Academy reserves the
right to retain students in their current grade level
in cases of unsatisfactory progress. In such cases
the students will remain in the homeroom that
reflects their academic performance level.

て決定されます。年齢条件はＭＳが１２歳、ＨＳ
が１５歳です（４月１日の時点）。年齢の他に、

Grade Reports
成績表
The school year is divided into 3 terms
(trimester system). Mid-way through each term a
Midterm report will be sent to the parents. This
report is intended to provide a snapshot of the
student’s progress at that point. Report cards are
issued at the end of each trimester. These reports
are the final measure of the students’ performance
during the term. Besides these, other grade reports
may be issued by the class teacher or the
homeroom teacher if requested or deemed
necessary.

毎学期中頃に中間成績表が保護者に送られます。
この成績表は、その時点までの生徒の学習状況を
お知らせするためのものです。毎学期末に成績表
が出されます。その成績表がその学期の学習状況
に関する最終結果です。その他、要望に応じ、ま
たは必要と見なされた場合には、クラス担当教員
や担任教員から他の成績表が出されることがあり

Parent-Teacher Conferences
保護者面談
Every midterm the parents are invited to attend a
parent-teacher conference with their child’s
homeroom teacher. Please consult the school
calendar for the specific dates. Parents may also
request a conference at other times if needed.

Parents’ questions or concerns specific to a
student’s classwork or grades should be addressed
directly to the teacher responsible. If further
discussion is needed, parents should seek the
assistance of the homeroom teacher. If the issues
are not resolved through these steps, parents may
bring the matter to the Vice-principal and/or
Principal, and, ultimately, to the Board of
Directors.

The Honor Roll system at KIU Academy gives
recognition to students who demonstrate excellent
achievement each term. Inclusion in the Honor

KIU Academy requires all students to abide by a
biblical understanding of morality and respect for
constituted authority. Appropriate student attitude
and behavior consists of:

GENERAL RULES OF CONDUCT

Discipline
懲戒
As a general rule, no behavior will be tolerated
that keeps the teacher from teaching or other
students from learning. Behavior that is in violation
of the conduct and actions listed in the Conduct
section may result in disciplinary measures.
Infractions will be handled in one or more of the
following ways:

懲戒通知書は下記の手順に従って出されます。
Disciplinary Notices are issued following this
procedure:

The teacher will state the nature and
circumstances of the offense on the Disciplinary
Notice form.

The Disciplinary Notice will be given to the
Vice-principal or Principal and the homeroom
teacher.

Students may state their objection to the
contents of the notice during the conference
with the Vice-principal or Principal.

The Vice-principal or Principal will decide on
the appropriate disciplinary measure based on
the seriousness of the offense and history of
past offenses.

The homeroom teacher and/or the principal
will contact the parents to discuss the matter
if necessary. The parents will always be
contacted if the infraction warrants suspension.






SEVERE CLAUSE
A single instance of misconduct deemed
sufficiently severe by the administration may result
in immediate suspension for multiple days or
expulsion. Tuition and/or fees are non-refundable
for students who are expelled.
不適切な言動が行われたのが一度だけであった
としても、学校側によって重大であると判断され
る場合、即座に一定期間の停学処分、または退学
処分になることがあります。退学処分になった生
徒の学費や諸費用の払い戻しはできません。
ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO
アルコール類と煙草
The use or possession of tobacco or alcoholic
beverages is expressly forbidden for all students.
Disregard to this rule will result in automatic outof-school suspension. Repeated offenses may result
in the expulsion of the student.
煙草やアルコール飲料の使用と所持は固く禁止
されています。この規則に違反した場合、即座に
自宅における停学処分となります。違反が繰り返
される場合、退学処分になることもあります。
WEAPONS
武器
The possession and/or use of dangerous weapons
(including camping knives) is prohibited. Disregard
to this rule will result in automatic suspension (in
the case of possession) or expulsion (in the case of
use).
危険な武器（キャンピングナイフを含む）の所
持と（または）使用は禁止されています。この規
則に違反した場合、即座に停学処分（所持の場

The possession, use or sale of non-prescription
drugs by KIU Academy students is prohibited under
all circumstances. Disregard of this policy will
result in immediate expulsion.

されています。この規則に違反した場合、即座に
退学処分になります。
School Closures
休校
Classes will be cancelled for the entire school if
there is a severe weather warning (keihoh) for the
Yamashiro Chubu region of Kyoto prefecture at
7:00 AM. If students leave home before 7:00 AM, it
is up to the parents to decide if they should come to
school that day. Students who come to school
during a school closure will either go home by
themselves (if able to do so) or remain at school
until an arrangement with a parent/guardian is made.
京都府山城中部地方に、午前７時の時点で気象
警報が発令されている場合、休校となります。午
前７時前に家を出なければならない生徒の場合、
その日、学校に出席するかどうかについては、保
護者の判断に一任されることになります。休校時
に登校してきた生徒は、自力で帰宅する（可能な

Activities

Students may choose from a number of extracurricular activities in middle school and high
school. Most of the opportunities involve sports, but
other clubs can be created if there is enough student
interest. Proposals for new clubs must be submitted
to the Principal for approval. Parental permission is
required for participation in sports teams.

parent or legal guardian must provide the school
office with a notice of absence.

Computer Use
コンピューターの使用
In order to use the school computers and network,
secondary students must abide by the Responsible
Computer Use Policy (RCUP). Students who sign
the RCUP agreement form will receive a Computer
ID card. This card must be displayed at all times
while using school computers. Breaches of the
RCUP will result in strikes on the card. The third
strike will result in suspension from use of the
school computers (including during computer
classes). Lost computer ID cards can be replaced
for a nominal fee.

For certain students it is not possible to issue a
grade. In such cases one of the following will be
issued:

An “NC” grade can be issued for a student for
either of the following reasons:

Physical or emotional conditions prevent

extraneous conditions is unable to
complete assignments.

Deadlines to complete the school assignments will
be set in accordance with such factors as a length of
absence, time of year, student’s condition upon
return to school, etc. If there has been no attempt to
meet deadlines or to make up missed work, then an
“F” or “NC” will be issued.
W = Withdrawal grade
A “W” will be issued to students who have not
met the minimum attendance requirements.
Exceptions can be made for students with
extraneous circumstances. A “W” grade does not
calculate into a student’s GPA. If the class is
required for graduation or promotion the student
will not graduate or be promoted until the
requirement is fulfilled.

P, R, T

Final Exams
期末試験
All secondary students are required to take a final
exam at the end of each term. Students will not be
excused from exams except under extenuating
circumstances. Students may take the final exams
earlier or later than the assigned date provided that
it is requested in advance and approved by the
Principal.
ＭＳ／ＨＳ生は毎学期末、期末試験を受けるこ

Schedule Changes (class changes)

Classes can be dropped or added during the first 2
weeks of a term. In order to do so the student must
submit a Schedule Change form to the Principal.
The school and a parent or legal guardian must
approve the class change before it is submitted.

Minimum Class Enrollment

All students in grades 6-11 must be enrolled in at
least 6 classes per term. Students in grade 12 must
be enrolled in at least five (5) classes per term.
Failing to fulfill this requirement may have an
adverse effect on a student’s, grade-point average,
class rank, credits, study hall privileges, and
promotion.

Dress Code

Students are encouraged to dress in a way that
minimizes distraction and promotes a positive
atmosphere. Students should not wear clothing or
accessories containing inscriptions that are vulgar,
obscene or promoting alcohol, tobacco, drugs,
violence and the like. Hats and sun glasses should
not be worn while indoors. Girls’ shorts, skirts and
dresses should reach to the fingertips. Boys should
not wear mesh shirts and girls must avoid seethrough or low-cut blouses, skintight or revealing
clothing, halter tops, or backless and strapless
dresses and blouses.
The homeroom teachers will issue warnings to
students regarding violations of the dress code.
Continued disregard for the dress code will be
addressed by the Principal and may result in
disciplinary measures.

るようなことを最小限に抑えられる服装を身につ
けるよう勧めています。下品な言葉、わいせつな

Study Hall
自習時間はＭＳ／ＨＳ生が独自に学習をするた
めの時間です。一般的な原則として、毎日１時間
の自習時間が与えられます。その例外もあります。
自習時間が始まるまでに、生徒は必要な物を手元
に置いておくようにしてください。ロッカーへ頻
繁に行くことは許可されません。
Study Halls are class periods in which secondary
students are expected to study independently. As a
general rule, students are assigned one Study Hall
per day. Exceptions, however, are possible.
Students are required to be in possession of all the
necessary study materials at the start of Study Hall.
Constant trips to the lockers will not be allowed.
Student Government
生徒会
The KIU Academy Student Government (KSG) is
elected at the end of each academic year. The KSG
is comprised of the President, Vice-President,
Secretary and Treasurer. The KSG promotes
communication between students, plans and
executes events and serves as a link between the
administration and students.

Excessive Absences
過度の欠席
A student who accumulates 10 full days of
absence during a trimester may lose credit for all
courses taken that trimester at the recommendation
of the administration. If, after the 10th absence, the
student is no longer missing school, is making up
missing work, and is making sufficient academic
progress, then the student may receive the grade
earned. Otherwise, an NC (no credit) or a W
(withdrawal) grade will be issued. Exceptions can
be made for excessive absences due to extraneous
circumstances. These may include, but are not
limited to:

学校側の判断により、その学期におけるすべての
授業の単位を失うことがあります。１０日間の欠

Study Hall Privilege

High school students who have a GPA of 3.60 or
more are not required to attend study hall. All 11th
and 12th grade students with study hall privileges
are also allowed to leave campus during their study
hall hours if their parents give them written
permission and if they sign out when they leave
and sign in (at the office) when they return to
school. Failure to sign out/in, or consistently
inappropriate behavior (such as talking loudly,
being disruptive while other classes are in session,
etc.), may result in loss of privileges.

Senior Privileges

Seniors who meet the following requirements
may leave school during their regularly scheduled
study halls. This privilege is conditional upon
responsible behavior on the part of the senior. The
criteria are:

1. They must be within six (6) credits of
graduation and not deficient in credits in

The seniors are expected to conduct
themselves as responsible and respectable citizens
in the community. Inappropriate behavior in or
outside school may result in the loss of senior
privileges temporarily or permanently. If senior
privileges are lost, the student must reapply with
the Principal before regaining this privilege. If
senior privileges are suspended or revoked twice
in a school year, the senior will lose these
privileges for the remainder of the school year.
KIU Academy reserves the right to deal with any
other situations concerning senior privileges as
they arise.

reasons such as extended travel, lack of adequate
language proficiency, or prolonged emotional
conditions can take the Japanese GED test and
transfer credits toward graduation. This option is
only available to students in special circumstances
and must be approved by the Board of Directors.
This option will be noted on the student’s diploma
and other related documents sent from the school.

graduate from KIU Academy. This is done through
mandatory homeroom attendance, community
service (130 hours in total) and reflection essays.

ーナショナルユニバーシティー（ＫＩＵ）で講義

HIGH SCHOOL
Japanese Language Waiver
国語授業免除
Students whose nationality is not Japanese and
those who are returnees (Japanese nationals who
lived or studied overseas for at least one year) may
apply to waive the Japanese language requirement
for graduation. The Japanese Language Waiver
(JLW) makes it possible to graduate without taking
four years of Japanese language classes. However,
the minimum number of credits for graduation must
still be met (24 credits).
日本国籍を有しない生徒、また帰国子女
（海外で最低１年間は生活、または学習した
日本人）は、卒業のために必要とされる国語
の授業の免除を申請することができます。国
語授業免除（ＪＬＷ）によって、国語の授業
を４年間履修しなくても卒業することが可能

At the end of the sophomore year (10th grade),
and after each trimester of the junior (11th grade)

average of all courses taken in grades 9 through 12.
Only the student or parent may obtain the rank-inclass information from the guidance department.

Valedictorian/Salutatorian

In order to qualify for valedictorian (1st place) and
salutatorian (2nd place), a senior must have attended
KIU Academy for at least three full years prior to
graduation. Cumulative GPA of all courses taken in
high school (excluding the final term) will
determined valedictorian and salutatorian status. If
a student transfers into the high school, the weight
of the courses taken at KIU Academy will be
considered when determining valedictorian and
salutatorian. Both the valedictorian and salutatorian
may present a speech at the graduation ceremony.
卒業生総代と副総代に選ばれるためには、スカ

Students who have not completed all of the
required course work may participate in the
graduation ceremony, but will not receive their
diploma. Students must also have all financial
accounts paid in full before receiving their diploma.
The following are grounds for not participating in
graduation:

 God created the world in six days, as stated
in the Bible,
 聖書で述べられている通り、神は世界を
６日間で造られた。
 because God created humans in His Image,
He has an unconditional love for all
people, even those who don’t know Him
or have rejected Him,
 神はご自身の姿に似せて人間を造られた。
それ故、神は、神を知らない人々や神を

を無条件の愛を持って愛しておられる。
 since sin entered the world through the
original sin of disobedience of Adam and
Eve, all people are born sinners, unable to
have a relationship with God our loving
Heavenly Father, and deserve death,
 アダムとエバが神にそむいてしまった原
罪の故に、罪が世界に入ってしまった。
そのためすべての人間は罪人として生ま
れついており、愛なる天の父である神と
関係を持つことができず、死に値する存
在である。
 because God so loved all humans, that He
sent Jesus Christ, His One and Only Son,
born of the Virgin Mary, to die on the
cross to pay the price for our sins,
 神は人間を愛してくださった。その大き
な神の愛ゆえに、唯一の御子イエス･キリ
ストを処女マリアによって誕生させ、十
字架上での死により、私たちの罪のため
の代価を支払うために遣わしてくださっ
た。
 after He died on the cross, Jesus was
resurrected after three days, giving
everyone the hope of eternal life if they
repent of their sins and believe in Him,
 we, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ,
are to obey His commandments, avoiding
sins such as lying, stealing, murder,
worshiping idols, adultery, etc. because it
interrupts the love relationship that God
desires with us,
 十字架上での死後、３日後にイエスはよ
みがえられた。そして罪を悔い改め、イ
エスを信じる者に永遠のいのちが与えら
れるという希望を与えてくださった。
 Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation
and eternal life.
 主イエス･キリストを信じる者として、私
たちは十戒を守り、偽りや盗み、殺人、
偶像礼拝、姦淫等の罪を避けなければな
らない。このような罪は神が私たちとの
間で持ちたいと願っておられる愛の関係
を妨げることになるからである。
 イエス･キリストだけが救いと永遠のいの
ちに至る唯一の道である。

Christian Position of KIU Academy
KIU アカデミーにおけるキリスト教立場
KIU is a conservative, mainstream,
evangelical Christian organization. KIU is
affiliated with International Chapel Ministries
(ICM), a United States Internal Revenue Servicerecognized non-profit organization for religious
and educational purposes. ICM is involved in
establishing international churches in Japan and
assisting churches in Japan, primarily through the
translation and publication of books in Japanese.
KIU アカデミーは保守的かつ福音的なキリスト
教系の学校である。KIU アカデミーは宗教上、及
び教育上の理由から、アメリカ国税局によって非
営利団体として認可されているインターナショナ
ルチャペルミニストリーズ（ICM）に所属してい
る。ICM は主に書籍の日本語への翻訳と出版によ
って、日本における国際的な教会の設立、日本の
教会の支援活動を行っている。

KIU アカデミーのハンドブックを読み、その内容を理解しました。その上で下記のことに同意いたします。
to abide by the guidelines as set forth in the handbook, ハンドブックに記載されている規則に従
います。
to be responsible, as parents or guardians, for all of my child’s /children’s personal matters, 保
護者として子どもの個人的な問題にはすべて責任を負います。
to take my child/children for medical examinations because KIU does not conduct medical
exams, and agree that I will be responsible for my child’s/children’s medical concerns, KIU ア
カデミーでは健康診断が行なわれないことを踏まえ、個人的に健康診断を受け、子どもの健康状態に
対して責任を持ちます。
to submit a letter or a physician’s statement explaining my child’s/children’s absence to the
secretary when my child /children need to go for a specialist appointment, 子どもが医師の診
察を受ける必要がある場合には、欠席理由を説明する手紙、あるいは診断書を事務に提出します。
to be responsible for adequately financing my child’s/children’s education at KIU, KIU アカデ
ミーで子どもが教育を受けられるよう、責任を持って経済的に支えていきます。
to not hold KIU responsible for any personal items or money lost or misplaced during school
hours, 学校時間内に紛失した持ち物やお金に関して、KIU アカデミーにその責任を問いません。
to give KIU permission to use footage of interviews or on-campus films, of which our child
/children is/are a part, for advertising purposes, 学校宣伝のために子どものインタビューや学校内

to not expect a refund once tuition and other school fees have been paid 一旦、納入した学費

and to give permission for my child/children to take part in all school activities (Separate
permission forms will be required for students to participate in sports and field trips away from
the school premises that require students to be transported by vehicle.). I understand that the
School takes every precaution to ensure the safety of all children during field trips, and that
our child/children is/are expected to abide by the rules and regulations contained in the KIU
Academy Student Handbook at all times. I understand, however, that accidents do occur,
and agree that I will not hold KIU Academy, its personnel, or the chaperones responsible for
any accidental harm that might befall my child/children during the course of these activities.
遠足や学校での活動すべてに参加する許可を与えます（スポーツへの参加や校外旅行への許可書は別
に必要となります）。遠足などにおいて学校側は生徒の安全保持のためにできる限りのことをし、ま
た子どもはハンドブックに記載されている規則にいかなる時でも従うべきであることを理解していま
す。けれども事故が起こる可能性があるということも理解しています。そしてこうした活動中に起こ
