Asynchronous vs synchronous
Asynchronous
I takes place outside of real time → time lag
I no need to wait for reply → flexible
I data is transmitted intermittently → notification required
I lack of immediacy → information can be out of date
Synchronous
I similar to a conversation → no time lag
I real time responses → involved parties need to be ready and
willing
I immediacy → no need to wait for reply
I more interactive than asynchronous communication

Existing & tested patterns can be adopted to robotics use
