Petersgate News www.petersgate-infant-school.co.uk/blog/ Welcome Back! I do hope that you have enjoyed some time as a family over the Easter break—we were very lucky to have so much sunshine! You may have noticed another new addition to our school building when you arrived back on Monday morning… we were lucky enough to be successful in our bid for a Lottery Grant this year, in order to have a new wooden canopy and artificial grass fitted outside the year one classrooms. We think it looks great and the children have loved turning it into an outside garden centre role play! We have a really exciting term ahead of us and we are already into the swing of things, as Year One children have had a trip out in the minibus visiting Key Dell Nurseries this week. On the subject of minibuses, we have some exciting news for you…! Back in December, the school were sent an email from Hampshire County Council to say The Department of Transport had launched a 25 million pound Community Minibus Fund and that organisations, like ourselves, were being invited to apply. We obviously jumped at the chance and Vicky McDonald Woods (PoPS‘ Previous Chair) kindly filled in the application and sent it off. At the end of March, we received an email from The Department of Transport informing us that our bid had been successful and we would be getting a brand new Minibus! We are still unsure when it will be arriving, but they are currently analysing our vehicle requirements and going out to the market with the resulting specifications. They are keeping us informed of the progress and we will of course keep you all updated. This excellent news will mean that we will be a very lucky infant school with two minibuses! On behalf of the school, the PoPS Committee, all the children and parents, we would like to thank Vicky for spending the time filling out all the forms for us so that we were successful in our bid - we are hugely grateful. Miss Tasker and Emma Goddard (PoPS Chair) Headteacher Julie Tasker Summer Term 23rd April 2015 PoPS Welcome back to the Summer Term, I hope you had a great Easter Break. This year our Summer Fayre willl be held on Sunday 14th June in the grounds of Petersgate from 11am-3pm. Again, we are running a Summer Fayre Programme Cover competition for the children (not for parents though!). The theme for the drawing should be ―SUMMERTIME‖ and the picture should be no bigger than A4 (the paper should be positioned as ‗portrait‘ - shortest edge along the top). All entries need to be submitted to the school office by FRIDAY 22nd May ready for judging. There will be a prize for the winner and 250 programmes will be printed featuring the winning picture! Children, your drawing could be on the front page of the Summer Fayre programme! Petersgate as an Open Futures School As you know, our school provides children with fantastic opportunities to gain life skills around growing, cooking and philosophy. This is because we are an Open Futures Flagship School, meaning we take part in the Grow It, Cook It, Ask It programme. The Open Futures team, along with a number of headteachers, teachers and staff members, will be coming along to Petersgate next Wednesday 29th April. We will be showcasing all we have to offer and proudly demonstrating our growing, cooking and philosophy skills!
