The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) invites New England artists to submit work for “Printed, Painted, Folded or Torn” a
month-long exhibition at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
Juror: Katherine French, Curator and Director Emerita at Danforth Art, Framingham MA.
Exhibition Dates: July 2-26, 2015
Opening Reception: Friday, July 10, 5-7 pm
Closing Celebration: Sunday, July 26, 4-6 pm, Presentation of Juror’s Choice and People’s Choice awards.
The Call: The RNAC seeks work that explores the possibilities and pushes the limits of the use of paper in works of art.
All media will be considered provided the use of paper is a primary component.
Juror: Katherine French, former Executive Director at Danforth Art in Framingham, MA, became Director Emerita upon
her recent retirement from that institution. Acclaimed for exhibitions exploring historical and contemporary expressionism,
French was recipient of an award for curatorial excellence from the New England chapter of the International Association
of Art Critics. She was also named Best Curator of Locally Made Art at the Boston Art Awards and subject of profiles in Art
New England and the Boston Globe. Twice recognized as one of Worcester Business Journal’s Ten to Watch, she has
been designated a Distinguished Alumna by Boston University. Under her direction, Danforth Art, Museum\School was
named an Outstanding Cultural Organization by the Massachusetts Arts Education Collaborative.
Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years and older living and working in New England.
Artwork Requirements:
• Work submitted must have been created within the past 4 years,
• Artwork previously shown at any other Gloucester venue will not be considered.
• Artists may be asked to supply a pedestal for 3-D work.
• 2-D work will not exceed 48 inches in width, however one piece up to 60 inches in width may be chosen.
• All art must be original. No reproductions, video or installations.
• Accepted work must be delivered in person, no shipping please.
• Work must be suitably framed and wired for hanging; no saw-tooth or sandwich frames.
Entry Fee: $35 for 3 entries, $10 for additional entries up to 5 total; RNAC members: $25 for 3 entries, $5 for additional
entries up to 5. Please make sure you have a credit card or a PayPal account to make your payment at the time of
applying.
Submissions: Open on April 24
• Enter using the RNAC online entry system only
• To submit go to https://client.smarterentry.com/RNAC between April 24 and June 15, 2015.
Submission Deadline: Midnight, Monday, June 15, 2015
Images: You will need good quality photos of your work in JPEG format, sized no greater than 2 MB, with1200 pixels for
the longest dimension required. Each image must be labeled with the following information: last name, first name initial,
title, medium.jpg. Do not use any special characters (e.g. !@#$%^&*+()][{}|/) in your image name. Example:
Smith_J_SunsetSymphony_acrylic.jpg
Artwork Size Requirements: Submitted 2-D work may not exceed 48 inches in width and 60 inches in height, including
the frame. 3-D work must fit on a 16x16 inch pedestal top. 3-D artists should be prepared to supply pedestals if needed.
Notification: Names of selected artists will be posted on the RNAC website (www.rockyneckartcolony.org) by 5 pm on
June 18, 2015. Artists will also be contacted with a follow-up email.
Accepted Work
• Deliver: Tuesday, June, 30, 10 am–2 pm or 5-7 pm to The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson St, Gloucester MA.
• Pick-up unsold work: SUN, July 26, 6-7 pm or Tuesday June 30, April 1, 10 am–1 pm
There is 40% commission on sales; 25% for RNAC members. Artists must be members when entering to take advantage
