reg Ayres has spent the better part of two years rockin' his way through some
really fun anime series. The once “Fanboy” turned VA started working in anime a little over eight
years ago, and within the first two years managed to snag two of his favorite roles in anime.
He was thrilled to voice the role of his favorite character, Son Goku, in Saiyuki. Just one year
later, he voiced Kaworu Nagisa in the Director's Cut of Neon Genesis Evangelion. He can also
be heard in other anime titles such as Super Gals, Spiral, Macross, Mythical Detective Loki,
Burst Angel, Gravion, Godanner, Pretear, Full Metal Panic, E's Otherwise and a whole lot more.

headphones of another variety behind “the decks”. A veteran nightclub DJ, he’s shared his
love of music at packed rooms at anime conventions, to the legendary stage of *The Knitting

CHARITY AUCTION SAT 12PM-2PM
Have some extra pieces-o-eight weighing down your pockets after plundering the Marketplace? No worries, as AnimeIowa is running a drive to support Miracles in Motion,
a charity based in nearby Swisher, IA that for twenty-six years has provided equine
therapy and outreach to the disabled, disadvantaged, veterans, and other groups in the
community.
So look around and consider leaving us some of that loose change in our donation jars
scattered around the con, or visit us during our Charity Auction on Saturday from
noon to two and consider bidding on some incredible loot!
Together, we can put the “Ar!” in Charity!
Anime Marketplace
Retail Merchants with the latest anime goods, from today’s most popular anime shows. Artists
selling unique anime and Japanese themed original art works, and our very own AnimeIowa
FanMarket with the latest and best in AnimeIowa and Buu Chan swag.
The Marketplace offers a bag check for our shoppers’ convenience - no need to juggle large
bags, backpacks and large props while trying to brows and purchase. When leaving an item
at Bag Check, your item will be marked with your badge number, so that all you do to pick it
back up is show your badge. The Bag Check is located to the right of the Anime Marketplace
entrance. Any items left after closing will be taken to the Bridge and turned over to the official
lost and found.
Because Bag Check is no longer mandatory, we must caution you that if your bag, backpack,
or large prop should knock into, damage (break) merchandise for sale - you will be responsible
to pay for the damaged item at that time. Attendees should be aware that they may be asked
to put items in Bag Check if they are proving to be a nuisance or create obstructions.
Anime Marketplace Hours
FRIDAY: 4PM*-8PM
SATURDAY: 10AM*-6PM
SUNDAY: 10AM*-4PM

Art Exhibit&Competition
Anime (and Japanese arts) are an inspiration for artists both young and old. The new
AnimeIowa Art Exhibit and Competition is the place to see great works from gifted artists.
Take a break from panels and the video rooms to leisurely stroll through the Art Exhibit and
see Anime FanArt, Anime Original art, and Oriental themed art in many different artistic
mediums. Oh and don’t forget to vote for your favorite works — our convention attendees
will be picking their Fan’s choice for best artworks of the show. (All winners of the competition
portion of the exhibit will be announced at “Closing Ceremonies”.)
And then check to see if the artist(s) of your favorite works are selling art at the convention.
See you there!

GOING TO THE COSPLAY MASQUERADE?
GET A BOARDING PASS!
Are you planning to attend the 6:30 Saturday Cosplay Masquerade? Do you hate
spending hours waiting in line to get good seats? Then pick up your “Cosplay Boarding Pass” Saturday afternoon! Here’s the deal...
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
1. Between 3:30 and 4:00 Saturday afternoon, visit the Cosplay Ticket Desk (in the
hall outside the Main Stage doors) to get a numbered Cosplay Boarding Pass
sticker. Don’t be late! We close the Ticket Desk when we reach ¾ seating
capacity or at 4PM, whichever comes first.
2. Go enjoy the convention! Get dinner! Watch some anime!
3. At 5:45 Saturday evening, RETURN to the Main Stage area and line up by the
sign that matches your sticker number. We will NOT begin seating before 6PM,
so no rush.
4. Follow the Gate Attendants’ instructions as they allow people to enter and select
their seats. Low sticker numbers will enter first for the best seats.
•Are you a Sponsor? Yay! You don’t need a Boarding Pass, up-front seats are reserved for you!
•Are you a vendor or artist and can’t leave your table? No problem! Ask about
our special procedure that will allow a friend to pick up a Boarding Pass for you.
•Eek! Did you forget to pick up a Boarding Pass? Relax, and look for the
“Stand-By” line. We’ll have plenty of good seats available for you after people with Boarding Passes enter.
If you need details about these situations or have any questions, please look for
the posted instruction signs or visit the Info Desk.

Hall cosplay
If you have never done a Cosplay competition before this is a great way to start. All you
need is a costume and a pose. Regardless of experience, Hall Cosplay offers eight separate
opportunities to showcase your creative cosplay work.
This event takes place in Cosplay Central. You do not need to register in advance! Simply
show up at one of the Hall Cosplay time slots and fill out a short entry form then pose for your
picture. We will have a white and black backdrop. All pictures are taken by a photographer
and then voted on according to time slot by AnimeIowa staff members in the preliminaries.
In the final round, Cosplay staff chooses the overall Hall Cosplay winner from the top time
slot winners. All winners are announced during the Mainstage Cosplay awards ceremony. If
you miss the awards ceremony, you can pick up your award on Sunday in Cosplay Central.
Time Slots:

qualifications
• Exhibition–This class is for those who do not wish to compete but still want to show
off their hard work. Any entry in this division is ineligible for awards. The max time
allowed for exhibition skits is 120 seconds. This is not a chance to get around the time
limit, merely a chance to display your cosplay without the pressure of competing, or if
you have a cosplay that is not made by you that you wish to display. The other rules
for appearing on stage still apply to the exhibition category. You may choose a skit or
a walk on piece. Walk on exhibition pieces will be of a fashion show nature. Walk on,
strike a few poses, and come off. During this time, Mainstage staff will provide music
for these pieces only. For skits, audio must be provided in advance!
**If you are uncertain which division your entry belongs in, the Cosplay staff can assist
you. That can be answered by messaging Teny or Kalrynne, the cosplay competition
moderators. Please note that the cosplay judges/staff can move you up or down a
category at their discretion.
Mainstage Cosplay
Mainstage Requirements:
-Please record all audio for your presentation. No live microphones are available for
use on stage. Spoken dialogue will not be heard by the audience.
-Edit your music and/or dialogue to meet the time limit
-If you need assistance with sound recording or editing, contact the Cosplay Staff at
[email protected]. You are to edit and record your own audio in advance.
Mainstage staff may not be able to help with audio editing, and we do not have audio
recording equipment available. However, you are always free to ask for help, just note that
our time is limited and we may not be able to solve all problems. For lack of audio there will
be general music provided. This music may or may not fit the tone of your cosplay, so we
encourage people to bring their own. We are only supplying entrants with music; no audio
recordings will be available.
-Please provide music and audio in mp3 format. It is suggested to have more than one
form of holding this information (IE: CD, thumb drive, SD card, ect) in case of technical
difficulties. All audio must be provided to Mainstage Cosplay no later than 2pm on
Saturday, otherwise we will use default audio.
-There is a 90 second presentation time limit for skits and performance. The tech crew
will halt the audio and bring down the lights after the time limit. In rare circumstances an
entry maybe granted special permission to exceed the time limit. The maximum extension
is 30 seconds. Any extension must be approved in advance by the Cosplay Director. Any
help shortening or finding areas to shorten the audio can be brought to the cosplay staff at
[email protected]. We will do our best to help you and will also look at content.
Workmanship Judging:
-Workmanship Judging will take place in the Green Room
You will have:
-30 seconds to explain your piece/ what you made
-30 seconds for the judge to look over your piece
-60 seconds for a questioning period for the judges to understand your design, and building process
-Please try and keep your speaking time under the 30 second time limit. We need our
judges to be able to move quickly from contestant to contestant, and if you spend too
much time talking, they won’t be able to give you the proper time to look over your cosplay
carefully. You are not being judged on how long you talk, rather how well you present the
piece. Therefore, keeping things short and sweet can even help you!
Mainstage Cosplay Contest Rules:
1. NO GLOMPING. It’s dangerous. ‘Nuff said.
2. All Cosplay participants must be registered attendees of AnimeIowa. This event is open to
all member, including staff, assuming your duties allow. If you are a volunteer, please let
your volunteer leader know when you have to be let go to participate.
3. Presentations may not exceed their designated time limit. The Tech Crew has explicit instructions to cut lights and sound at 30 seconds for workmanship, and 90 seconds for performance. Plan ahead. If you need help editing your audio, contact the Cosplay staff prior to noon on Saturday.
4. NO BLATANT NUDITY. This event is rated PG-13. Please use discretion with your
character, props, and presentation content. A helpful hint is to use skin tone leotards and
such to keep everything covered.
5. The following may not be worn for competition: Wholly purchased costumes without
significant modifications, rented constumes, or entries that have previously won at
AnimeIowa. These may be entered on stage in the Exhibition Category, but will not be
eligible for awards.
6. Youth participants must be accompanied by a registered adult member at all times.
7. Your entry must be finished before you enter the Green Room. No sewing, gluing, spray-painting, welding, or other construction work is allowed backstage. however, final assembly of large pieces and/or props, and unexpected repairs are permitted. There are wig workshop spaces for hair malfunctions. However, AnimeIowa staff are not always
able to help. Participants cannot show up in Cosplay Central to create a cosplay entirely

out of our supplies. Supplies are limited, and we would like to be able to provide them for all
attendees.
8. Cosplay Central does have some emergency repair supplies and the Cosplay Staff may be available to help with emergencies or damage repair. AnimeIowa does not supply
participants with any of the following: makeup, makeup applicators and/or removers, paint,
ect. Please come to the convention with everything you need to complete and/or assemble
your cosplay.
9. Participating will be required to sign a liability release and a limited release for use of
video and photo images. This will be posted later, and we will inform you of when this is
available.
10. For safety reasons, the following are not allowed:
-Live Animals
-Substances which might damage or soil hotel property
-Aerosol sprays
-Projectiles
-Pyrotechnics, included but not limited to: fire, flash powder, explosives, smoke bombs, or fireworks.
-Entries that could potentially damage the Convention Center facilities, other participants, or the wearer.
-Illegal weapons of any kind
11. Legal, real, or prop weapons used as part of the costume are allowed with restrictions.
You are expected to act responsibly with your weapon. The Green Room is not the place to
practice your presentation’s swordplay! You may be asked to check your weapon in to our
Props Master prior to the start of the Cosplay if we deem the weapon potentially dangerous
to your fellow participants. If you decide to carry a weapon, by signing your registration
form, you accept any legal and financial responsibility for damage your weapon may cause
to persons or property. Normal AnimeIowa Weapons Policy rules apply. Don’t be a dink!
12. Entries with electric power requirements need to be self-contained. There will be no
access to electrical outlets on stage.
13. Participants who want to used special effects in their presentations (i.e. strobe lights,
fog, ect.) must notify the Cosplay Director no later than 2PM on Saturday. The Cosplay
Director has the rights to deny requests for special effects due to safety concerns and
building regulations. Do not plan your presentation around unapproved special effects!
14. Surprise the audience, not the Cosplay staff. If you are planning something completely
different, let us know well in advance. All information will be held in the strictest confidence.
15. Smoking is not allowed in the Convention Center. Contestants who leave the building
for a smoke break may lose their turn to appear on stage. You will be kept up to date on
when you are to go up on stage, so plan accordingly.
16. All judges’ decisions are final.
17. The Cosplay Director has the right to eliminate any entry from the competition on the
basis of taste, danger to the audience, building or yourself, violation of any of the above
rules, or any other reason deemed sufficient. We have never had to eliminate anyone yet,
so let’s keep it that way!
18. There will be a required meeting for all groups. As many people should
be able to attend but AT LEAST one person per group MUST attend in order to be able to
enter. The time of this panel will be determined and posted at a later time. If no one in your
group absolutely CANNOT make it to one of two available panels, then you must talk to
the staff by 2pm on Saturday to get that information so you are not out of the loop. During
this panel, there will be information on how things will be run during the show, rules and
guidelines for being in the green room, and other pertinent information. After going through
the important information, there may be time to ask the cosplay staff questions, or get
advice on your piece be your fellow cosplayers or the cosplay staff!
19. Any large set-pieces such as tables and chairs can be requested from
[email protected]. Please have descriptions because we would like to help you
in any way possible. However, requests such as these must be made BEFORE con. We
cannot take last minute requests of this nature at con. We thank you for understanding.
