They meet Curley’s wife. Lennie thinks she is very pretty but George tells him
to leave her alone, or he will get into trouble. They also meet Slim, a tall quiet
man. His dog has just had puppies and Lennie wants one. A big man called
Carlson says that Candy should shoot his dog and have one of the puppies.
George and Lennie arrive at the ranch. They meet an old man called Candy
who tells them about some of the people on the ranch. Candy has a very old
dog.
They also meet The Boss’s son, Curley. Curley seems to want to quarrel with
Lennie. Candy says Curley always wants to fight big men because he is so
small himself. George does not like Curley. He tells Lennie to keep away from
him.
They meet The Boss and George talks to him. The Boss is suspicious because
they have arrived together and George does not let Lennie speak. He thinks
George is taking Lennie’s money.
