Newsletter April 2015
At our AGM in March the committee was elected and Fiona
Johnson was re-elected as President for the coming year. After the
business of the evening was over we enjoyed some social time with
refreshments and a game of “Bunny”, an Easter version of Beatle.
Our next meeting is on Wed 8th April
The Art of Hand Crafted Chocolates
With Deanne Deburgh from Cocobella
There will be tasting involved and some of Cocobella’s delicious chocolates to buy
Why not bring along a friend and see if we can get some new members with the lure of chocolate
Seend WI Craft Group
Whether you knit, crochet, sew, paint,
make cards or do paper craft. Whether
you’re experienced or a complete
novice we’d love you to come along to
Seend WI Craft Group to share your
experiences and learn new skills. Bring
along the project you’re working on,
get help from experienced crafters, or
try something completely new. Enjoy a
cuppa & a chat with likeminded people.
The group will be open to everyone
including non-members. There will be
a £1 fee per meeting to cover the costs.
Meetings will be on 3rd Thursday of
each month from 2pm to 4pm in
the Irene Usher Pavilion.
The first meeting is on Thurs 16th April. At this
meeting, for those who want, Gill will be demonstrating
how to up-cycle & revamp old coasters and placemats.
Come along with a friend and have some crafty fun.
Craft Cup Competition – A Free Standing Christmas
Decoration. Test your skills using any medium, e.g. wool,
paint, metal, plastic, wood, paper, fabric, pottery, you
choose, to produce an decoration for the festive season.
Max size: length, width & height 18” / 46cm
Entry fee £2.00 Closing date 25th August
Centenary Poetry Competition you are invited to write
a poem - any form or stanza - to represent the “life of the
WI - yesterday & today” You can enter as an individual or an
institute, the poem should be no longer than 20 lines and
cost is £2.50 per entry. Two vouchers of £25.00 & £10.00
will be presented to the successful poets for their Institute.

Lady Denman Cup
‘A President’s Log: Star Date 2115’
Imagine what your WI would be like in 2115. Write a
futuristic president’s annual report using no more than 500
words. Prizes- book tokens. 1st-£75, 2nd-£50, 3rd-£30

Wiltshire Weekend At Denman
WFWI is returning to Denman for another great
weekend of fun and friendship. A superb range
of courses to suit every taste are planned. Friday
4th to Sunday 6th Dec 2015. Come along & enjoy
a lovely pre Christmas weekend in Denman’s
tranquil and comfortable surroundings. Prices
vary according to which of 7 courses available

WI Centennial Fair Harrogate
As part of the year-long festivities to
celebrate 100 years of the WI in 2015, the
Harrogate International Centre will be
hosting the WI Centennial Fair from 3rd to
6th September 2015. The fair will showcase
all aspects of the WI from crafts and cookery
to campaigns and gardening, along with
offering a great variety of stalls and stands
from a whole host of exhibitors. There is also
a visit to Packwood House on the return
journey to make an interesting short break.
Price includes luxury coach travel, 2 nights
dinner, bed and breakfast at the 4* Best
Western Plus Cedar Court Hotel.

International Japanese Day our speakers will talk about Japan, its culture, history and family life.
You can learn how to write your name in Japanese script. Watch a demonstration of Ikebana – Japanese
flower arranging.

2015 Visit to the Royal Hospital Chelsea Guided by a Chelsea Pensioner, a leisurely 2hr walk around the
Hospital grounds, the Great Hall, the Wren Chapel, the Museum and the Gift Shop.
Local pick up is Pelican Bus Stop, Corn Exchange, Devizes 9.15am.
We will arrive at about 1.00pm, so it is advisable to take a packed lunch to eat on the journey.

Inter Federation Golf Croquet Tournament

This festival celebrates 800 years of Magna Carta and will feature thousands of blooms and live

2.00pm – 4.00pm for a guided tour of the UK’s largest single site dairy. This runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week and processes 2.5 million litres of British milk daily, producing butter and dried milk.
