1. What is Sport-études ?
It is a partnership between a Québec Sports Federation, a School Board and
the Ministry of Education (MEESR).
Criteria:
 The entrance criteria, training schedule, and fees for the sport are
decided by the Sports Federation.
 The school decides the entrance criteria and the performance criteria
thereafter.
 The goal is to make it easier for elite athletes to balance the rigorous
demands of training and academics while allowing for normal
personal and family lives.

2. What is a Sports Concentration?
• It is a local arrangement/agreement between Hadley/PW
and a in-house/local Sports / Arts Program.
• Students in a Concentration Program have the same classes,
academic timetable, admission criteria, and required academic
performance levels as Sports-Études students.
• Athletic/Artistic entrance criteria, practice requirements, and
fees are set by the school and its partners.
• The goal is to reach more of the elite athletes/artists in the
community that happen to not be in a Sports-etudes
sanctioned sport or club and provide them with similar
opportunities for a balanced lifestyle.

5b. Retention Criteria:
•
•
•
•
•
Academic probation is when a student is not meeting the criteria and if the overall success of
the child in his/her specific grade level and placement in the Sport‐ études and/or
concentration program is “at risk”:
A meeting with the parent will take place and a plan of action will be put in place.
A suspension from participating in the SE Sport may also be issued until academic
performance improves.
Removal from the sports-etudes program will occur only after a formal written warning is
communicated. Removal from the program is on a year by year basis.
Sanctions will be imposed on “at risk” students by the Vice‐Principal if he/she is not meeting
the following academic criteria:
– An overall average of 70%
– Passing all core subjects over 60% (French, English, Math)
– More than one “Red” in the Attitude to Study of all subjects per term
– More than 2 unjustified absences per term
– Suspension for any reason due to behaviour/attitude

5. Attendance:
•
•
•
•
•
Attendance at school is critical for all Hadley students.
Formal attendance procedures are in place for all Hadley students as outlined in
the Student/Parent Handbook.
Sport-etudes students are expected to attend their training on a daily basis and
the school is expecting that every student‐athlete is in attendance at training.
When Sport‐études student‐athletes are aware of an upcoming absence
(competition, for example), they are expected to:
 talk to the Sport-etude coordinator in order to get a Sport Absence form,
 get the form filled out and signed by his/her teachers whose class will be
missed,
 get the form signed by a parent, and
 return the form to the Sport‐étude office PRIOR to the planned absence.
Attendance at training is monitored daily and communicated to the
school. Attendance at Academic Support is also monitored on a daily basis.

5.Measures of Support:
Pedagogical Support (available before 8am-845am and after class 1-2pm):
– Formal study sessions staffed by Sport-etudes teachers who are available to
answer questions, administer tests, review material, help students prepare for
up-coming assessments or catch up after absences due to competition.
– A place where students involved in group projects can also meet to work
together.
Tracking of student academic progress (i.e. homework assignments, tests)
and regular feedback to students on the evaluation of their work. When
(Attitude to Study) academic performance falls below an acceptable level
(Yellow-Red), parents will be notified and a plan for recuperation proposed.
Regular liaison between teachers and coaches to evaluate whether the
balance between academic and athletic demands are being met.
Communication and feedback: each student/parent will have an email
address to communicate with teachers. All SE teachers will have a website
with notes, schedules, information relating to their course available to
parents and students.

5 Academic Support Programs:
Work Completion Days [Hadley & Philemon]
In advance of or following an extended absence from school when a student has missed tests and assignments, we encourage the
student to discuss with an Academic Advisor the possibility of having a work completion period or day as needed to “catch up”.
**NOTE: It is a student’s responsibility when absent to take the required measures in order to catch up on missed materials and
evaluations. This service is not offered in all cases of absence from school, and certainly only when absences are justified**
Lunchtime Remediation [Hadley & Philemon]
The Lunchtime Remediation Program runs in both Hadley and Philemon. At Hadley there is a teacher in the remediation room
for French, Math and English every day at lunch. All students are welcome to attend and receive help on assignments, homework
or prepare for tests.
Guided-Study Blocks [Philemon]
Selected students will report to the resource room and use their time to complete homework from their other classes or offer
their services to the other students in the resource room as student tutors. In other situations, students are given free study
blocks because they need to lighten their course load for a variety of personal or academic reasons. In these cases, they are
expected to bring work to class and have the opportunity to get help from the resource teacher if needed.
Academic Resource [Hadley & Philemon]
Resource is offered to all students who have IEPs that stipulate the need for academic and/or organizational support. Depending
on the student’s needs and schedule they may receive resource one to six times per cycle. At times, students will be offered
general resource if the subject specific resource schedules do not fit within their scheduled timetable. Mrs. Giles is always
available to assist students during their resource blocks. It is, however, possible that other support in the form of volunteers,
student tutors and mentors will be available during this time as well. Students are encouraged to complete homework, prepare
for tests and organize themselves during these blocks. Computers are available for students to use for their work or to log-in to
eLearn for online support.
Peer/Professional Tutoring Services [Hadley & Philemon]
Students and/or parents who are seeking further academic support outside of school hours are able to acquire a peer or
professional tutor. Our tutor list consists of retired teachers, substitute teachers, current Philemon and Hadley teachers, alumni,
CEGEP/University students and current Philemon senior students. We also refer students to the online tutor service, The
Tutor Link.

5.Peripheral Services:
• The school will use the MEERS funding to hire “peripheral services”
and expertise outside of the realm of the sports organizations and the
school.
• We will offer such professional services as: medicine, physiotherapy,
kinesiology, sports psychology , nutrition, athletic therapy , massage,
acupuncture.
• We will also try to involve our students in professional services
and/or workshops /conferences relevant for the student athletes
such as:
– Evaluation of Physical Fitness Planning;
– Preparation for Media Relations and Sponsors: press kits , portfolios,
documents related to sponsorship;
– Guidance/training in the use of specialized training equipment: weight
machines, cardio equipment , harness, Swiss balls , balance boards , etc.
which exist in our school’s fitness training facility presently.
