JINKS hobby happenings Wow! What a weekend! Fish, friends
and fun! I’ve recently returned from the
North Jersey Aquarium Society’s 60th
Anniversary weekend (October 10-13).
With ten major name speakers, seven
mini talks by club members, four days
of auctions, two nights of food and
drink, a Hooter’s next door, and more
fish friends than I can count, it’s no
wonder I returned home exhausted but
thrilled to have been a part of it. Robert
Sanderford from my Raleigh AS club
made the trip with me. I told him to
train for the event by staying up late and
drinking more beer. I should have followed my own advice!
We got home about 7:30 PM on a
Monday night after an eight hour return
drive. I then stayed up to start acclimating all the fish I acquired, either from
friends or in the auctions. I brought back
sixteen different species and, hopefully,
I’ll be able to keep most of them alive
and get spawns.
The following is a list of acquisitions:
Livebearers:
Ameca splendens – from Joel Antkowiak of the Lancaster, PA club
Phalloceros caudimaculatus - from
David Banks of the Burlington, VT club
Old fashioned black mollies from the
auction
Skiffia multipunctata fry – from Ted
Coletti NJAS
Goodea atripinnis – a BAP entry from
Karen Haas of the Lancaster club
Xiphophorus helleri “Rio Otapo” Rusty
Wessels collection – from Frank Nell
NJAS
Koi swordtails – from Frank Nell of
NJAS
Cichlids:
Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor – from the
auction
Laetacara araguiae – from Kathy Muraca NJAS
Hemichromis stellifer – pair from Frank
Nell NJAS
Geophagus altifrons fry – from Frank
Nell NJAS
Others:
Danio nigrofasciatus – BAP entry from
Paul Nietsche NJAS
Black neons – from Bill Cole from Connecticut
Barbus barilioides – from the auction
Female blue gularis – from Rosario Lacorte NJAS
Betta splendens – two pairs from Rich
Martucci NJAS
They’ve been quarantined and acclimated. Now the challenge is to move
fish around and find permanent housing
for all of them! I’ll keep you posted on
my progress.
