Vorwerk flooring, Erfinder der Freiformfliesen,
schreibt gemeinsam mit Werner Aisslinger ein neues
Kapitel zum Thema abgepasste Bodenbeläge.
Elementary Shapes sind textile Flächen und Frei­
formen, die Aufenthaltsbereiche akzentuieren und
Nutzungszonen definieren. Sie erzeugen Wohnlichkeit
in Arbeits­räumen und eignen sich als Kontrapunkt
zur Architektur.
Elementary Shapes gedeihen im lebendi­
gen Wechsel unterschiedlicher Florhöhen
und farbigen Trennstreifen aus Filz, die je
nach Blickwinkel leuchtend hervortreten.
Gedeckte wie kräftige Farben, geometri­
sche Formen und mehrere Strukturen bil­
den einen modularen Baukasten für die
kreative Raumgestaltung.
Für ELEMENTS ließ sich Aisslinger vom
Memphis Design inspirieren, jener Bewe­
gung, die in den 1980er Jahren mit ikono­
grafischen Möbelentwürfen die Wohnwelt

farbenfroher machte. Auf Basis elementa­
rer Grundformen wie Kreis, Dreieck und
Quadrat kreierte er neue Formengebilde
wie seinerzeit die Mailänder. Der Reiz
liegt in dem Zusammenspiel von arche­
typischer Erhabenheit und lebendigen
Farben. In Räumen mit Kanten und Ecken
lassen sich mit den organisch gestalteten
Flächen von MITO und LEAF einzelne Be­
reiche großzügig individuell hervor­heben.

Vorwerk flooring, the inventor of free-form carpet tiles, is writing a
new chapter on the subject of fitted floor coverings together with
Werner Aisslinger. Elementary Shapes are textile areas and freestyle
shapes that accentuate areas to linger in and define zones for use.
They generate ‘hominess’ at workspaces and are a suitable counterpoint
to architecture.

For ELEMENTS Aisslinger let himself be
inspired by Memphis Design, the move­
ment in the 1980s that used iconographic
furniture designs to make the world at
home more colourful. Taking primary
geometric shapes such as the circle, tri­

des textiles de surfaces et de formes libres,
qui accentuent des zones de séjour ou
d’accueil et définissent des aires de service.
Ces éléments apportent confort et convi­
vialité aux espaces de travail et peuvent
établir un contrepoint à l’architecture.

Les Elementary Shapes vivent de l’alternance entre les différen­
tes hauteurs de poils et le feutre colorié des bandelettes dont la
brillance varie au gré de la perspective. Coloris discrets, tons
vifs, formes géométriques et structures variées constituent un
kit de composition modulaire pour une riche architecture au sol.
Aisslinger a créé ELEMENTS en s’inspirant du Memphis Design,
ce mouvement qui, dans les années 1980 a égayé l’ameublement
en y introduisant une large gamme de couleurs. Partant de for­
mes élémentaires – cercle, triangle et carré –, il a créé de nou­
velles formes, à l’instar des designers milanais. Le charme agit
par l’interaction entre majesté archétypale et couleurs vives.
Avec MITO et LEAF, déjouez les angles et les coins pour faire
naître, à partir des plans organiques, de généreuses zones per­
sonnalisées.
Dabei setzt er bewusst neueste Materialien und Produktions­
methoden ein, um die Grenzen des herkömmlichen Designbe­
griffs zu erweitern. Aufsehen erregte er mit seinem Loft Cube,
einem mobilen und modularen Wohnwürfel, der 2003 erstmals
in Berlin auf einer spektakulären Dachfläche installiert wurde.
Aisslinger entwirft Möbel für Marken wie Zanotta, Cappellini,
Vitra und Moroso. Seine Arbeiten wurde vielfach mit Preisen
ausgezeichnet. Die Zeitschrift A&W wählte ihn 2014 zum
Designer des Jahres.
He caused a sensation with his Loft Cube, a mobile, modular
residential cube that was installed on a spectacular rooftop area
in Berlin for the first time in 2003. Aisslinger designs furniture
for such brands as Zanotta, Cappellini, Vitra and Moroso. His
work has been awarded many prizes. In 2014 the magazine
A&W voted him Designer of the Year.

Sciemment, il utilise de nouveaux matéri­
aux et de nouvelles technologies pour
repousser les limites traditionnelles de
la notion de design.
Il a fait sensation avec son Loft Cube, un habitat mobile de
forme cubique, installé en 2003 sur un vaste toit plat d’un im­
meuble berlinois. Aisslinger crée du mobilier pour des labels
tels Zanotta, Cappellini, Vitra et Moroso. Ila eu plusieurs
récompenses. En 2014, le magazine A&W l‘a élu «designer
de l’année».

ELEMENTS surprises. The effect of unique
colour combinations in subtly co-ordi­
nated tones is all the more vibrant in pro­
portion to the brilliance of the partition­
ing strips made of woollen felt. The
component units are based on the basic
geometric shapes square, circle, triangle
and trapezoid, which serve to underscore
the collection’s modular character.

Meter; die Länge variiert und hängt von
der Anzahl und Form der jeweiligen Ele­
mente ab. An der Rückseite sind die Sets
mit einem Vlies verbunden, das über eine

The carpet runners are about one metre
wide; the length varies and depends on
the number and shapes of the respective
component ‘elements’. The sets are backed
with a fabric liner equipped to provide
slip-resistance.

bandelettes en laine feutrée sont vives,
mieux resplendissent les extraordinaires
combinaisons chromatiques aux subtiles
nuances. Les éléments partent de formes
géométriques simples tel le carré, le cercle
et le trapèze, soulignant ainsi le caractère
modulaire de cette collection.
Les tapis ont une largeur d’environ un
mètre, leur longueur varie en fonction du
nombre et des formes des éléments posés.
Au dos, ils sont munis d’un voile avec

colour for each ‘element’. Write down all
of these individual ‘elements’ in the
sequence in which they are supposed to
be combined. Remember to place a felt
partitioning strip between each ‘element’
and indicate each strip’s colour, too. Areas
can only be connected to each other on
the 98 cm-long side; a maximum of 11
single ‘elements’ per runner.
