Present-day Chad. Adam, sixty something, a former swimming
champion, is pool attendant at a smart N’Djamena hotel. When
the hotel gets taken over by new Chinese owners, he is forced
to give up his job to his son Abdel. Terribly resentful, he feels
socially humiliated. The country is in the throes of a civil war.
Rebel forces are attacking the government. The authorities demand
that the population contributes to the «war effort», giving money
or volunteers old enough to fight off the assailants. The District
Chief constantly harasses Adam for his contribution. But Adam is
penniless; he only has his son....

Isaac is a young photographer living in a boarding house in Régua.
In the middle of the night, he receives an urgent call from a wealthy
family to come and take the last photograph of their daughter,
Angelica, who died just a few days after her wedding.
Arriving at the house of mourning, Isaac gets his first glimpse of
Angelica and is overwhelmed by her beauty. As soon as he looks
at her through the lens of his camera, the young woman appears to
come back to life just for him. Isaac instantly falls in love with her.
From that moment on, Angélica will haunt him night and day, until
exhaustion.

In Chile, at three thousand metres altitude, astronomers from all over
the world gather together in the Atacama desert to observe the stars.
The desert sky is so translucent that it allows them to see right to the
boundaries of the universe.
It is also a place where the harsh heat of the sun keeps human remains
intact: those of the mummies, explorers and miners. But also the remains
of the dictatorship’s political prisoners.
Whilst the astronomers examine the most distant galaxies in search of
probable extraterrestrial life, at the foot of the observatories, women are
digging through the desert soil in search of their disappeared relatives…

Laura is 25 years old. She’s a journalist, she’s single and lives in a small apartment in Mexico City.
After a series of short-lived affairs, Laura meets Arturo. After the first time they make love, she is left
deeply unsettled. They embark on an intense and passionate sexual relationship, in which pleasure, pain
and love merge. As days go by, which Laura conscientiously crosses out in a calendar, her secret past
resurfaces, pushing Arturo to the limit.

THE INVISIBLE EYE (La Mirada Invisible)
by Diego Lerman
with Julieta Zylberberg, Osmar Nuñez
Buenos Aires, March 1982. On the streets of the Argentinean capital, people are challenging the military
dictatorship. María Teresa is a supervisor at the Colegio Nacional in Buenos Aires, the establishment
that trains the country’s future elite. She is 23 and wants to do things right. Mr Biasutto, the head
supervisor, immediately sees in her the zealous employee that he has been waiting for and teaches her
to become the vigilant eye attentive to everything but that avoids attracting the attention of others: the
invisible eye. María Teresa then throws herself into the relentless surveillance of this tiny, closed world,
imagining, detecting, pursuing...

Prudence Friedmann, 17, is suddenly alone and adrift in the family apartment. She meets Marilyne, a
high school misfit who introduces her to the illegal race circuit of Rungis where souped-up mopeds and
muscle bikes race against each other, undaunted by danger.
Fascinated by Reynald, Franck and the other guys from the Rungis clique, Prudence tries to find a place
for herself by passing off her loneliness as freedom.
