The average person breaths in approximately 3,400 gallons of air
each day. Unfortunately much of that air is filled with contaminants,
pollutants and impurities that we can’t see.
Poor indoor air quality may lead to headache,
dizziness and fatigue as well as irritation of the eyes,
nose, and throat. Such immediate effects are usually
short term and treatable. Sometimes the treatment is
simply eliminating the person’s exposure to the source
of the pollution, if it can be identified.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the air
inside your home may be two to five times more polluted than the
air outside. Occasionally, indoor air pollutant levels can spike to
100 times higher than outdoor levels.*
Home interior air can contain a variety of contaminants and
pollutants, including mould spores, pollen, bacteria, dust mites,
asbestos, radon decay products, and other particles and impurities.
Symptoms for some diseases, including asthma,
hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and humidifier fever, may
also show up soon after exposure to certain indoor air
pollutants.
Other health effects may only show up either years
after the exposure has occurred or after long or
repeated periods of exposure. These effects may
include chronic diseases such as respiratory diseases,
heart disease and cancer. Considering the debilitating
effects of these diseases, it is prudent that you try to
improve the air quality in your home even if symptoms
are not noticeable.
