ALS DONATIONS EARNED THROUGH ICE WATER CHALLENGE - ALS is a disease that affects
the brain and spinal chord. Sources say the ice bucket challenge has earned more than $6 million to date.
The challenge was taken locally at the Central Arkansas Development Council Gurdon Senior Adult
Activity Center on Aug, 19, with Angie Harper-City of Gurdon Administrative Assistant and Gary MarshallGurdon City Marshal's Office, Mary Lewis-Meals on Wheels Volunteer and Gary Smith-Gurdon Street
Department Manager, Royce Ann Barbaree-CADC Gurdon Senior Adult Activity Center Site Director,
Clayton Franklin-Gurdon Mayor and Sherry Kelley-Clark County Justice of the Peace and Meals on Wheels

Gurdon Senior Adult Activity Center who has ALS. When ice water is poured on you, your nerves are
affected just like those with ALS and so the ice bucket challenge was created for disease awareness, as well
as a reason to donate. Quillin has retired from her service at the center due to her disease. Mary and Sherry
deliver Meals on Wheels to Joyce and her husband Doug. Pharmacist Larry Thomerson, at Thomerson's
Drug and Gift Store, made an undisclosed donation amount to ALS in support of the local effort. Other participants also made donations. (photo provided)
