Gate Admission Book
Cost: $15.00 per book – each book contains
10 tickets. Cash, check or charge (MasterCard or
Visa) accepted.
Each ticket is good for one admission to the Fair,
including parking.
Tickets are detachable for distribution to various
members of your news staff.

HORSE SHOW AND CONCERTS
World’s Championship Horse Show
The World’s Championship Horse Show has
separate media access that is good for all
performances.
A wristband is required to gain horse show access
to the rail area for photos. Requests for wristbands
must be in writing and on an individual basis. They
must be signed for upon receipt by the individual.
Any lost or stolen wristbands can be replaced
for $5. Once a wristband is removed, it cannot
be reattached. Any altering will result in loss of
access to the WCHS.
The only way to guarantee a seat for a horse show
performance is to purchase a ticket.

Gate admission pays for all attractions, displays
and shows at the Kentucky State Fair with the
exception of paid concerts, evening performances
of the World’s Championship Horse Show,
Midway and access to Kentucky Kingdom.

When you purchase advance discount admission
tickets, you can also purchase advance discount
parking for $5 per vehicle. Advance discount
prices are available through August 17 at 10 p.m.
Choose from two options:

Accessibility – All restrooms are wheelchair
accessible, and ramps provide access to all
buildings. Elevators are located in the lobby of
Broadbent Arena, the east and west concourses
of Freedom Hall, the entrance to the pedway at
Stopher Walk and the North Wing Lobby. There
are also disabled/elderly drop-off points at the
southwest corner of the South Wing and the
northeast corner of the N Parking lot. Wheelchair
seating should be requested when purchasing
concert or horse show tickets. For accessible
seating, call (502) 367-5144 or 1-800-231-8085.
For accessible seating in Cardinal Stadium, ask an
usher and you will be directed to the accessible
seating area.
Administration Offices – Located at the front
entrance of Freedom Hall, far left doors.

Baby Care Facilities – Facilities for nursing
mothers and diaper changing are identified by
“Baby Changing Station” signs on restrooms
in the South Wing, North Wing and West Hall
Lobbies, on the first floor of Freedom Hall and
on the east and west sides of the second floor
of Freedom Hall. The Rock ‘N’ Relax Baby Care
Center is located in the Kidz Biz area in the South
Wing and is presented by Baptist Health Louisville
and Louisville Metro Public Health & Wellness.
Bus & Taxi Service – TARC buses arrive at
the Fair on the half-hour from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
daily. Buses load and unload in H Parking lot near
Gate 4. Taxis pick up and deliver behind Ramp 3 of
Cardinal Stadium in the J Parking Lot.

Check Cashing/Money Machines – No
personal checks are cashed on the grounds.
There are five ATMs on the grounds, one is
located outside the West Hall Lobby, South Wing
B Lobby, the front entrance of Freedom Hall, in
the Broadbent Arena concourse and two on the
Midway.
Concert Gates Open – Gates for concerts in
Cardinal Stadium and Freedom Hall (free and paid
concerts) open approximately an hour and a half
before the starting time of the event.
First Aid – Stations are staffed by the American
Red Cross and are located on the east foyer of
Freedom Hall open end of the stadium behind
the bleacher seating between Gate 5 and 6. A
First Aid station is also open just off the South
Wing B Lobby from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. A
First Aid station with an EMS unit is outdoors
adjacent to the west end of West Hall and is
open 24 hours a day.
Guest Relations – Staffed during Freedom Hall
ticketed events and located inside Freedom Hall.
Information Booths – Have a question? Get
an answer at the Kentucky State Fair Information
Booths located throughout the Fair. Sponsored by
Kentucky Farm Bureau.
Lost Child Center – Staffed and sponsored by
the Kentucky State Police, a Lost Child Center is
located at the Kentucky State Police command
post across from the Midway on Pavilion Dr. Open
24 hours a day during the Fair.

Lost & Found Items – All items found and
turned in to State Fair staff will be taken to the
KEC Security Office (located next to the Ticket
Office), open 24 hours a day during the Fair. Call
(502) 367-5360.
Police – Kentucky State Police are stationed
outdoors, adjacent to the west end of West Hall
by the First Aid station and EMS. The Kentucky
Exposition Center Security Office is located in
Freedom Hall, next to the Ticket Office. Call (502)
367-5360.
RV Parking – Overnight RV parking is allowed
only in F Parking Lot behind Cardinal Stadium.
Parking is $20 per night. Electric and water
hookups are not available. Sites are on a first
come, first served basis. Contact the Access
Control Office at (502) 367-5384.
Road Help – Handled by the Kentucky State
Police, adjacent to the west end of West Hall
by the Midway First Aid station, or call the KEC
switchboard at (502) 367-5000.
Smoking – The Kentucky Exposition Center
is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is only allowed
outdoors.
State Fair Trams – Rides are free on Kentucky
State Fair Trams. You can board from several
“Tram Stop” locations on the grounds. There is
one tram route for the entire grounds with service
approximately 8 a.m. to midnight daily. Trams run
every 15-30 minutes.

Ticket Office – Tickets for all paid concerts
and evening performances of the World’s
Championship Horse Show can be purchased at
the Freedom Hall Ticket Office, located right of the
main entrance to Freedom Hall. Hours are 9 a.m.
to 8 p.m.
Weather Report – Stay updated on weather
conditions with WHAS 11, the official weather
station of the Kentucky State Fair.
Wheelchair/Stroller Rentals – Wheelchairs
can be rented on the South Wing C sidewalk and
at the west side of the front circle. Prices are $12
for wheelchairs, $10 for strollers (or $16 for two),
$14 for wagons and $50 for electric scooters
(or $13/hour). Prices cover rentals for the entire
day, unless noted otherwise. A driver’s license is
required for all rentals.

The Kentucky State Fair’s World’s Championship
Horse Show offers $1.2 million in special awards
and trophies. Competition is in Saddle Horse,
Roadster Horse, Hackney-Harness Pony, Roadster
Pony and Saddle Seat Equitation divisions. First
place winners are recognized throughout the
Saddlebred industry as true World Champions.
Freedom Hall will once again host the world’s
richest and most prestigious horse show on
August 20-27. This year the show begins one day
earlier.
Enjoy the 2016 World’s Championship Horse

KENTUCKY STATE FAIR TIMELINE
1816 – Fayette County farmer Colonel Lewis
Sanders organized Kentucky’s first fair and stock
show, five years after America’s first fair and stock
show in Massachusetts.
1841 – The first state fair in the United States
occurred in New York.
1853 – Two years after the first world’s fair in
London, Americans staged their own world’s
fair in New York. The first major, permanent
fairgrounds in Louisville opened in Crescent Hill.
1893 – The first full “Midway” was created for the
World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, and some
of the first “fair foods” gained popularity there.
1901 – Abram Renick, legislator from Winchester,
sponsored the bill to create the Kentucky State Fair.
1902 – The newly formed Kentucky Livestock
Breeders Association organized the first Kentucky
State Fair at Churchill Downs, Louisville.
1903 – Owensboro won the bid to host the
second State Fair.
1904 – Due to a pending court case, testing the
constitutionality of state appropriations for the Fair,
the State Fair was cancelled this year.
1905 – The third Kentucky State Fair was held in
Lexington, where organizers lobbied to host the
Fair permanently.
1906 – The Kentucky State Fair returned to
Churchill Downs in Louisville for two consecutive
years, and in 1908 Louisville was named the
permanent site of the Kentucky State Fair.

KENTUCKY STATE FAIR TIMELINE
1908 – The first permanent Kentucky State
Fairgrounds was constructed in the Parkland
neighborhood of western Louisville, opening for
the September event.
1914 – A saddle horse stake at the Kentucky
State Fair Horse Show became the richest purse
in the nation; three years later, the Horse Show
awarded its first world’s championship.
1916-1919 – For the next four years, State Fair
exhibits, attractions, and entries reflected wartime
and the U.S. involvement in World War I.
1924 – Daily radio broadcasts originated from the
Fair for the first time. The medium of radio would
influence Fair programming for decades.
1930-1933 – During the Depression, State Fair
attendance declined, but the Fair Board
implemented reduced admission fees and added
an overnight campground for fairgoers.
1937 – Floodwaters covered the Fairgrounds in
January and led to extensive repairs.
1942-1943 – Buildings at the State Fairgrounds
were converted to defense industry uses, and the
State Fair was cancelled.
1944-1945 – As World War II continued, the
State Fair was temporarily moved to Churchill
Downs, where patriotic programs boosted the
spirits of fairgoers.
1948 – Before Kentucky had its first commercial
television station, TV broadcasting was
demonstrated at the Fair. Television programming
would influence Fair attractions for years to come.

1950 – Ground was broken for a new Fairgrounds
and multi-purpose sports and entertainment
center near new airport and highway facilities.
1956 – Following years of plan changes and
construction delays due to the Korean War, the
Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center (KFEC) was
opened for the 1956 State Fair.
1974 – An April tornado caused widespread
damage to KFEC.
1986 – Preview attractions in the new permanent
amusement park at KFEC, Kentucky Kingdom,
were opened in time for the Fair.
2004 – The 100th Kentucky State Fair was
commemorated with nostalgic programs and a
State Fair history exhibition.
2006 – North American Midway Entertainment
takes over Thrillway operations, and some popular
exhibits are relocated due to the East Wing
reconstruction.
2007 – A nearly $60,000,000 renovation
was made to the North Wing in the Kentucky
Exposition Center. The renovation consisted of a
new Exhibit Hall space, and the replacement of the
East Hall.
2011 – Military Day was instituted to recognize
active and retired military.
2012 – The VanHook Brothers of Somerset broke
a Kentucky State Fair record with their pumpkin,
which weighed in at a whopping 1,709.5 pounds.
2013 – In the Summer of 2013, Kentucky
Kingdom was reopened.
