FondazioneHospiceSeràgnoliOnlus
Fondazione Hospice Seràgnoli has developed an
innovative care model, one of excellence and a point of
reference in the field of palliative medicine. It provides
support for terminally ill patients in its three Bologna
hospices (the Bentivoglio, Bellaria and Casalecchio
Hospices). lt also disseminates the correct culture of
palliative care through the Academy of PaIIiative
Medicine Sciences.
Thanks to the results achieved in recent years, the
Foundation has played an important role in assisting
local health planning and organization and in the
management of services. The Foundation works in
partnership with institutions in line with its mission to
provide a subsidiary institution for the public sector.
All services provided by Fondazione Hospice, thanks to
accreditation with the National Health System and
fundraising activities, are free for patients, families and
professionals in the local network (general practitioners
and specialists to whom a palliative care consultancy
service is offered).
13
HospiceSeràgnoli
Fondazione Hospice Seràgnoli operates in the field of care through the
management of the Hospice Bentivoglio, Hospice Bellaria and Hospice
Casalecchio, facilities staffed by highly trained personnel. A multidisciplinary
team composed of a group of professionals, including doctors, nurses,
psychologists, physiotherapists and support staff, takes care of all the patient's
needs with the aim of improving quality of life.
Special attention is given to concrete and personal needs and those of the patient's
family. This means that the health workers completely take over the task of caring
for the patient, carefully listening to each of them, trying to offer adequate and
appropriate care for everyone.
Physical, psychological and spiritual support is therefore personalized to fully
respect the dignity of each person and their family situation. Since 2002, the year
in which Fondazione Hospice inaugurated the first hospice, 6800 patients have
been admitted.
ln addition to managing admissions, since 2013, the Foundation has been offering
a completely free outpatient service through the three hospices.

TheAccademyofSciencesofPallia-veMedicine
The Academy of Sciences of Palliative Medicine, established in 2006, operates with the aim of
promoting the dissemination of the culture of palliative care through the planning and organization of
training programmes, research projects and outreach programmes.
The Academy offers Masters Degree programmes, International College courses and Continuing
Education courses devoted to acquiring the necessary conceptual and operational tools for working in
the field of Palliative Care. The courses are offered in collaboration with the University of Bologna and
a network of international centres.
ln 2012, Fondazione Hospice Seràgnoli opened the first campus in Europe devoted entirely to Palliative
Medicine, where in addition to providing care, the campus offers training, research and
accommodation for students. Students from all over Italy and abroad take part in training programmes
and internships at the hospice. ln order to support participation in the various programmes, residential
units were built to accommodate those enrolling in national and international training and research.
The Residences also accommodate the families of Hospice patients.
